Resident Evil : Unfulfilled Potential
Unfortunately, another disappointment that could have been avoided.
The film tries to create an atmosphere from the games and it's a good idea to go more to the horror side of the games. It's also a good idea for the action to take place in the 90s, too bad the film turned out to be so disappointing.
The dialogues are somehow forced and the story would be better if the characters themselves were more similar to the characters from the video games.
In games, the characters are interesting and well-designed, I don't understand why change something that works.
The casting is mostly bad, except for Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield.
Claire Redfield isn't that bad, and Kaya Scodelario is a solid actress, but this role doesn't suit her. Tom Hopper might have been great in the role of Albert Wesker, at least he looks like him, but his character is poorly written. Albert Wesker is interesting and threatening in games, a real villain.
Leon has been turned into an incompetent comic sidekick, which disrupts the dynamics between the characters and further damages the impression of the whole film.
With such an interesting story and characters, it was completely unnecessary to change them.
The action could have been better, but that's not the biggest problem here, in a film like this we expect the atmosphere, the story, the interesting characters and the great casting. Unfortunately, we didn't get any of that, just another disappointment.
