The Competition
boblipton8 November 2023
A tramp is hit by an automobile. He becomes an assortment of body parts, which onlookers reassemble.

The Lumieres would soon sell their catalogue to the competition. In the meantime, they were fighting that competition in the time-honored traditional manner of film makers everywhere: by looking at what that competition was doing, and making the same film themselves.

Like most of the Lumiere films shot under the supervision of the brothers, it is well composed, and the acting, costuming, and make-up of the performers is spot on. However, the larger, better financed production companies like Gaumont and Pathe set too high a bar commercially.
