I cannot disagree with the previous reviewer more
HarbingerUK15 March 2017
As the title of my review states I cannot disagree with the previous reviewer more. This episode had humour, subtlety, plot and execution. The battle between the droids was humorous and slightly broke into song, the premise that chopper being nice should send up red flags wasn't overdone and AP-5's beleaguered no one listens to me was underplayed. This was an episode nodding at the day to day soldiers and underdogs not the big heroes. The intelligence wing desperate for fame, the droids wanting to be heard and the heroes recognising that they take their robot droids for granted was beautifully played out when congratulating AP-5 only to realise he actually was in jeopardy. The final scenes where AP-5 finally found peace only to have it snatched away was funny and tragic. I really liked this episode but perhaps some viewers just don't get subtle underplots

Silly Star Wars Fun
noahlfortner12 November 2019
This is a largely skippable episode at first glance, yes, but I don't think it's getting the credit it deserves. It seems to be infuriating people for taking a brief step back from the darker and more serious overarching storyline to give us an episode-equivalent of Threepio and Artoo bickering in the Tatooine desert - and I loved it. It's silly, it's carefree, and most importantly, it's actually funny (sometimes darkly funny).

And the bit at the end that almost seems to be a self aware nod to the fans lamenting about "Disneyfied Star Wars".... perfection.

At the end of the day I think it's good to remember that for every charred Aunt & Uncle there was a Jawa, for every Darth Maul there was a Jar Jar Binks. Star Wars is allowed to be goofy from time to time. It's part of what Star Wars is. And I think this episode follows along that line of thought to a tee.

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't think this was TOO bad. I could have done without the singing myself... but if DID make me laugh! I don't usually question Star Wars logic, but I was scratching my head a bit when Hera fried that ship to smithereens through Chopper, and Chopper was pretty much unscathed... Seeing those guys get brutally murdered like that in a Disney show was certainly daring and different though.

Other than that, this was actually retry funny and I did legitimately enjoy the droid take-over plot and manipulation stuff. It's not on or with the Imperial Spy game a few episodes back, but this is perfectly fine.

I don't understand the hate for this episode
aramanton29 January 2021
It's a filler, yes, but every show have fillers. Including Clone Wars and past Rebels episodes. And it's not a bad filler either; the episode brings something new to the table. Watch it to know what I mean. No, I don't particularly like AP-5. But hating this episode? It did what it wanted to achieve.

Not as bad as some say
wms-9274130 October 2020
This episode, in which Chopper is compromised and represents a threat to the rebels, does not look good at all in comparison with the previous four episodes, all of which are terrific in their own way. It is unquestionably a step down, but if one looks at the episode on its own, it isn't all that bad. It is humorous, after all.

I suspect that the show creators intended this as a kind of break in the tension before the critical last three episodes of the season, which look like they're going to be enthralling. This is an old technique in storytelling; you make the audience relax a bit and then hit them with something unforgettable. It actually increases the impact if you can put the audience at ease before the big finale.

AP-5 sings😐

Honestly Star Wars rebels isn't actually that bad it has some truly great episodes such as twilight of the apprentice and legacy of Mandalore but then their are episodes like these scattered in amongst them and I see the need for it to exist but still...not a good episode

Fun but frivolous.

I cannot deny this was a fun episode with some amusing moments, especially Wedge trying to 'use the refresher' while AP-5 bothers him but it is odd how such comedic episodes get thrown in amongst more serious Star Wars canon building.

I really cannot understand why Lucasfilm made Clone Wars and Rebels have such comedy fillers aimed at young children as well as all the wonderful serious, dark, grown up storytelling that is so powerful for the overall Star Wars saga. Why didn't they make 3 shows - Clone Wars, Rebels and an additional comedy cartoon aimed at younger viewers with droids and Jar Jar? They could have kept Clone Wars and Rebels as more witty, grown up humour mixed with the serious storytelling for more advanced children, teens and adults then put all the silly childish stuff into a separate show just for young kids to watch for fun. I rate Clone Wars and Rebels as amazing due to all the awesome stuff in them but I have to overlook the comedy fillers which are just for kids. It seems unnecessary to throw it all in together.

Anyway as comedy fillers go this is actually entertaining but when you get two spins on musical numbers it feels hugely out of place in a canonical Star Wars saga series!

My rating: 6/10

Skippable

It's a filler episode for sure. If you want droid humor maybe it's your thing and I was digging it for a bit, but the dialogue from the imperials' version of a neckbeard computer team is what sealed it for me. Then the power overload via wireless connection happened and killed the verisimilitude further. It was just disappointing compared to the rest of the series.

Double Agent Droid
lassegalsgaard28 January 2020
Now, I like Chopper. I really do. As a side character, he gives a lot of levity and humor to rather serious episodes. However, it seems like the writers haven't completely been able to crack the secret to his solo episodes. They've been trying to give him these ever since the last season, and while I have always found them charming, I don't understand the need to keep on doing them. At least, this episode had some of the core characters involved. I have a hard time getting adjusted to the character of AP-5, but I continue to hope that he will grow on me. His moment at the end of the episode confused me a lot, and when he began his musical number, I didn't know if I thought it was the greatest thing or worst thing ever. If put in comparison to the quality of the last few episodes, this didn't do it for me, and I don't think that they can afford a lot more of these quiet episodes this season. I don't know how many episodes there are left, but I would like them to stay on track, and continue to add on what they are doing with Thrawn, and maybe also give us a little bit more time with Sabine and what she's doing.

incredibly childish and utterly skippable
junk-mail-me-here14 January 2020
This episode is incredibly childish. Much of Star Wars Rebels has the lead characters acting like poorly behaved 10 year olds, but this episode is even more childish than usual. So much so that maybe 5 minutes in I got sick of it and skipped to the last couple of minutes. Only episode I've skipped thus far, and that's saying something.

One of the worst episodes of this series
silviuvirlan200012 March 2017
I seriously can't understand why the producers would try to sink their own ship. The solo episode that chopper got in the previous season was very badly rated yet they decided to go for another one.

Some could say that they are stalling for time because there isn't enough story in here. If such is the case then just please give us less episodes and more quality.

It was absolutely infuriating to watch such a garbage episode, with every minute passing by I was just thinking "it's one of those filler episode and 100% we are not getting anything meaningful ... AGAIN"

The creators have made a serious habit of this and are simply harming the show by releasing these bad episodes in an attempt to hit that 21-episodes-mark ... Please hear us fans out when we say "WE Don't WANT MUCH, we just want GOOD QUALITY and MEMORABLE content"

Skippable Filler
scamerones-484-2079234 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This one doesn't really make a lot of sense. Now I hate Chopper and I really hate AP.

But the thing that tanks the episode is the weird ending, the whole episode smacks of filler in the, "Threatening to move the plot, but nah, we would never really move the plot over a Chopper episode" vein. The whole episode actually shows the empire doing something clever and is an interesting premise, but the problem is that Phoenix Squadron just flips a switch in the last 10 seconds, bad guys blow up, and it's rolls credits.

It's filler 101, really. Right next to the canned "it was all a dream!" twist.

Cringey, Pre-school Written Dialogue
nateponder2 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is my first IMDb review. This episode was so bad it actually warranted recovering my account and writing a review. Whoever wrote this episode's story and dialogue should be blacklisted from the industry permanently. The constant pointless cuts to the NCIS-esque two-people-on-keyboard cringey 1337_H4x0r "controller" character as he babbles random inane jargon were downright insulting they were so braindead. The ending of the episode with Hera sticking the ?data spike? Into unconscious Chopper to somehow ????? Send enough power back to the controller 1000s of miles away to ??? Compromise their fuel cells?????????? And then Hera with the cringe dialogue HEY YOU SLEEMO GRRRR. The dialogue and voice acting from the rest of the people on the h4x0r ship wasn't any better. This episode is so god-awful it has permanently tainted my view of the entire series.
