I Guess Ratings Are Everything
JosephMarks44221 September 2022
Here's another show that was axed that I personally enjoyed. I guess it simply didn't reach a large enough audience to renew it for a second season.

The episodes were smart, funny, entertaining, etc.. Well written and well executed by the company of actors and directors. Certainly a neat pseudo sci-fi show to be sure.

There wasn't a single episode I would call weak. It's been a while since ABC have had a show with consistent high quality IMHO. I personally can't think of one today. Plenty of hits and misses.

Well maybe Kevin didn't save the world but gave fans 16 enjoyable episodes.

Just my two cents.

Somebody Pick this up ....Great show
GojiraJr14 November 2019
Need to figure out why these producers couldn't keep this show full of positive messages, positive characters, positive values and positive energy going ....tough writing call, I guess , but I'm sure there are people that could bring their talents to run with this ...but ....alas!

Sweet show, Jason Ritter is incredibly likable...
wildsparrow1611 October 2017
You can't not like Jason Ritter (who is also the spitting image of his late and talented father). There is simply nothing to not like. In this show, he is funny, vulnerable, kind and all too human. However, I find the female characters rather b*tchy - this comes from a female reviewer. Even his angelic mentor can be rather obnoxious. But nasty females aside, this is an engaging show. It is a dramady - not fully comedic, and not fully dramatic, it does deal with real issues and the characters he encounters will warm your heart. The scene in the airport with the pencil seller is not to be missed. It is a refreshing change from the violence and filth that seem to be dominating the airwaves. I highly recommend it.

Surprisingly well-made show that will surely make you feel good.
Enki34529 October 2017
As an atheist, I was planning on watching this show, to make fun of it, thinking it would just be religious crap. But hell was I wrong. The show is more about the beauties of life and our universe, than it is about religion. And when it does delve into religious themes and plots, it's not about the belief in god part of religion, but the be a nice person and do good stuff part of it. It's just a really well-made and uplifting show that everyone who wants to have a nice time and feel good should watch. I tried 8 new shows this fall season, and this is the only one that I really loved, I'm very critical about new shows I'm starting and this one was a total surprise.

Witty and Funny!

Warning: Spoilers
What a fresh, smart and heartwarming show! It is so clever and funny. I was hoping it would be good because I like the idea and the main actor. There are so many shows out there that are corny and predictable. This show is not that. I have always liked Ritter in every show I have seen him in. I believe this is his best performance to date. He is brilliant in this. I love the spiritual character too. I believe it is the best show to come along in a great while. I hope it continues.

Love this show...please plan for Season 2
deb-hatchell9 October 2017
Rarely do we find a show that everyone in our extended family (that lives together) loves. And it's also hard to find a new show where we are immediately invested starting at the Pilot (usually, we have to be patient as the script works out it's kinks). This one is just such a show.

Jason Ritter has become a fine actor, with comedic timing glimpses of his dear late father, John. Both he and the actor who plays the teenage niece play their roles pitch perfectly.

If you are looking for a well-written show that doesn't include crude language or gratuitous violence; with a theme about redemption and a higher-purpose, then you'll fall in love with this one, too.

At the end of the Pilot episode, we all cried out "We want to binge...don't make us wait".

Were already hoping that the network is approving a second season.

Reminds me of Eli Stone
jforster314 October 2017
This show really reminds me of the 2008 comedy/drama, Eli Stone, staring Johnny Lee Miller. The religious overtones aside, there's this quiet hopefulness in each episode. It's like some trusted loved one from your childhood quietly whispering into your ear that everything's going to be okay.

Jason Ritter's boyish like innocence as he rediscovers the simple beauty of a rain storm or a starry night on a quiet country road... Simple goodness that I wish I could squirrel away for posterity, only to later devour like Grandma's canned jams.

Ritter's charms
SnoopyStyle14 May 2018
Outside of Austin, Texas, black sheep Kevin Finn (Jason Ritter) is crashing with his scientist widower twin sister Amy Cabrera (JoAnna Garcia Swisher). She is called in by the military when 36 meteors strike around the world. One lands near the Amy's house. Kevin and his niece Reese go out to investigate. Kevin touches it and is changed. A messenger of God (Kimberly Hebert Gregory) tells him that he's the last of the righteous destined to save the world. The other 35 had mysteriously disappeared. His former crush Kristin Allen (India de Beaufort) is presently Reese's teacher. Deputy Nathan Purcell (J. August Richards) has a lifelong crush on Amy.

The start is a little rocky with a muddled premise and an annoying Kevin. It does straighten itself out. There are some solid relationship chemistry with terrific TV actors. Ritter's inherit good nature charm quickly rises to the top. Kimberly is great. There are some good lessons which are the episodes that I like the most. I really like Kevin's connection with the niece. They could have done more godly capers together. With Amy coming around in that last episode, the show was set to have some good adventures. This has the potential to be a great feel-good network fare with a little bit of a bite and some religious flavors. With a more solid start, this would have garnered better critical response and maybe maximized its potential.

Jason Ritter is wonderful!
gingerooney20 June 2022
He's very good with comedy, and his physical comedy harkens back to his dad. His ability to make me laugh uproariously is something that means a lot to me. He was awesome when he needed to be serious, but I love him as a comedian. I was sad that they never continued with a second season, because I'd become a huge fan of Jason. And this show. Netflix has been known to pick up a series from network tv, and revive it, making it even better. So, it's probably a bit late now to pick this up, but geez, would SOMEONE give this talented man a comedic role? I promise he'll make it a success! I miss you Jason!

Love It
awicamoky22 February 2018
I love this show. Jason Ritter is amazing and funny. I am so glad that I found something to watch that does not have any foul language, swearing or sex (or vampires, walking dead etc, absolute junk as far as I'm concerned). Nice clean fun. I'm sorry, but there is just a lot of trash out there and it is very difficult to find something WORTH watching.

Jason Ritter (Probably) Saves The Show
ozjosh0322 October 2017
If Jason Ritter isn't the most likable guy on TV, then who is? He's flat-out adorable in Kevin Probably Saves The World. Great at the comedy. Real and vulnerable. And deft enough to sell what isn't a particularly convincing premise for a show and episodic situations that aren't all that gripping. In short, despite some amusing comic schtick and some good writing along the way, this show never quite flies. And it doesn't help that the touched-by-an-angel like premise is not a million miles from Joan of Arcadia, in which Ritter co-starred some years ago. But Ritter was clearly a star-in-the-making then, and he's a star here too. Now if only somebody would come up with a vehicle worthy of him.

Only interesting thing is Jason Ritter & that's not enough
EinatB22 October 2017
ABC needs to learn that having an interesting actor for lead cannot "hold" an entire show... Show throw me back to "Joan from Arcadia" (where Ritter played the brother) or "Eli Stone" for obvious reason.

Would love to see Jason Ritter in other comic (or not) roles, but this show felt 'meh' to me. Not saying it won't get better, but first couple of episodes were weak.

Wouldn't it be nice to watch a show that is kind, fun, and worthwhile?
melee312 March 2018
Oh wait--there is one! It's called Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. Unfortunately, we may not know if he is able to save the show as it may not be renewed for another season. And that is really too bad. People complain that there is nothing worthwhile on TV, that there is too much sex and violence, but then when there is a good, fun show on that surprises you each week, not enough people watch it. Is it because it isn't advertised enough or that the competition is too much? I don't know, but here is what everyone is missing: 1. Just plain silly fun--physical comedy, quirky characters, and a guy who has a hard time adulting all the time. 2. Kindness--his job is to help other people. He does so in simple ways, complicated ways, crazy ways, and heart-warming ways. Some of the episodes start off with a feeling like "oh, oh, jumped the shark already" and then there is a plot twist and you love it all over again. 3. No need to squirm at scenes if watching with your children. 4. A feeling that just possibly our lives have a purpose and maybe, even if we mess up, people will forgive us and things might get better. If this doesn't get renewed, I will truly miss Kevin and Tyler, but I have learned good lessons from them so it will not be a waste. Here's hoping it gets renewed and we find out if the world gets saved.

Love, love, love this show!
luvbugu131 July 2018
It was my favorite new show last fall. Every week I looked forward to it. Heck, our whole family got together and cooked dinner to watch this show. Jason Ritter is awesome and I've never seen a show with JoAnna Garcia Swisher in it that I didn't like! Both of them are so talented! Kimberly Hebert Gregory was new to me but I will watch things just because she's in it now. She has attitude to spare but in the way that lets you know she cares. She has a great smile too. So to sum it up out of this world cast. Lessons in treating people better. Telling us to be the best we can be. A downright entertaining hour of tv that touches more than your funny bone. Thank you abc. Please do more like this. So excited for this year.

An Honest Review
generationofswine10 March 2019
Let's be honest, the comedy was optimistic, it was heart-warming, it was uplifting...of course it was doomed to failure.

And then, yes it had a diverse cast which would appeal to those that ONLY care about politics...but it also had an angel and a Christian treatment and morality which would, of course, gain their ire and dismissal.

And that doesn't only go for the outrage culture, but also seems to go for a certain age demographic.

The fact is, if the show had come out between the birth of TV and the birth of the new Millennium it would have been a hit. Unfortunately it was released in a jaded era where things that are heartwarming and uplifting are shunned.

More Kevin Please
pqntfvvbv27 January 2022
This has to be one of the best shows ever produced, the talent, the funny, and the story line is all the best( so let's take it off the air for no real reason)! And the main character/actor is as great an actor (or better) as John Ritter was! If I could have a "make a wish" it would be to bring this series back for a long run.

Enjoyable and Life-Affirming
ajgiannetti13 December 2017
This show has a casually spectacular lead actor, with a lovable and well-acted supporting cast. The show balances comedy with stories of growth and redemption. The small acts of kindness that transform people's lives is played out in rich and effective ways. All-around great show, thanks for taking the risk ABC.

Religion Aside
pithawg-17 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After watching the pilot and immersing myself in Kevin's character i see why he was cast in the role. Charming and talented. Hopefully the writers are more than capable of keeping the scripts funny and full of spirit. The pilot show has good flow. The hidden messages are okay. Waiting on some amazing events in future episodes. Hoping it will be more tough family situations mixed with heavy comical bumbling. Throw in a little divine sorcery and it might be great. High hopes ..

Wonderful Weirdness Abounds
foulke994 October 2017
This is definitely weird. As I write this, there are 3 reviews posted, 2 of which are from Lancaster, SC - which is where I'm from as well. (And Lancaster ain't all that big.)

At least one of the other posters is a believer (most likely Christian) -- while I am not. I'm an atheist, in fact. That said, I love - LOVE - this show - the actors (all!!), the writing, the redemption. At least the pilot (here's hoping they don't fall down some hole or other). Anyway - whether it's some quirk or intention of the universe in action here ... all in all, I urge one and all to give the show a whirl. I'm betting that more than a fair number of you will find it well worth the while.

Jason Ritter is very good in this
ablondmoment4 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The reason this show works is Jason Ritter he is so good in this show. But why is the sister Amy so bitchy? I am already tired of her. And Yvette is just annoying! When kevin went to watch the play and Yvette was clapping her hands and on stage going on and on wow really????? I almost stopped watching over that part. This could be much better

I Love this show! So upset it was cancelled!
karenmag11 November 2018
This was just a wonderful, fun, Loving, heartwarming, uplifting show......So of course it wasn't given more of a chance! I'm so tired of good shows being cancelled, while more and more Stupid reality shows are kept on and duplicated. Jason Ritter is so great to watch, in anything he's in. He is just loveable. This entire cast was great together. The show left you feeling good.

Destined to get the Axe....Sadly
walleye-4253726 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is an extremely entertaining show. I normally don't go for this sort of silly thing, but Jason Ritter is fabulous in it. He is really able to "stretch his acting legs" and use this show as a vehicle to showcase his all-around acting abilities much like his father did in 3's company. You can really see the similarities between his acting and his fathers, John Ritter. The facial expressions and the physical comedy, along with his looks are spot on to his Dads.

Given that, I'm not so sure on the writing of this show. It needs to start to get something going other than the predictable "Fixing" of people every week. I'm not just saying this from my vantage point, I say this from the fact of the ratings. It started off mildly strong and has been dropping every week. We have now passed week 4 and it appears there are only 2 more episodes that have been taped. I don't know if it only intended to have 6 this season, or if they are then going to take a break and tape some more or did the network tell them to stop filming anymore? It also appears Jason Ritter is currently filming another TV series as well called "The Long Road Home" which is set to only run 8 episodes but of course could run longer if it has the ratings. I don't know if he is just slated for a few of the episodes or the whole thing.

At any rate, back to it needing to get going. There are several different directions this show could go and obviously at some point he will have to leave the town of Taylor, Texas to find the other 35 Righteous as is hinted by his visions. That could be problematic for the chemistry being built with the others in the show like his sister, niece, crazy friend, and the police officer. I hope we get a chance at seeing where this show will take us but I fear it won't last that long. Networks, especially ABC, have the habit of killing decent Sci-Fi type shows before they can really get going and find an audience. They did it with the show Forever and most recently, Time after Time.

I really feel they screwed up with Time after Time as they had a great story and very strong cast. They only showed the first 5 or 6 episodes and killed it right after that and didn't show the remaining 6 shows that were taped. I came across those remaining shows online and watched them all in one night as each show got better and better and I couldn't stop watching it. That next day was a rough one without any sleep. It also left a little cliffhanger for a season 2 which of course will never happen.

The problem is they had Time after Time going up against The Walking Dead. When TWD ended it's season last spring, we could have had an opportunity to see what Time after Time could have done without TWD as it's competition. But for some reason, they canceled it right then, it's almost like they were afraid that maybe it would take off and do well. Both shows would have a similar audience so it was very puzzling they decided to cancel it before it could air without TWD as its main Competition for an audience.

I hope this show picks up and lifts its ratings, but sadly I don't see that happening in this time slot and I don't see ABC being generous enough to give it another slot and let it build an audience. I truly do HATE Network TV and rarely watch it. I just Binged watched all these shows back to back on the internet. The "Cable Networks" seem to be putting out better quality shows and more apt to give them a chance than the Networks do
