Brilliant episode once again

Warning: Spoilers
Don't expect action or plot twist here. What is really great in this episode is the way the character psychology and dilemmas are treated : everything is subtle, slow paced and incredibly on point. The show takes its time to build up its story and it's an amazing way to develop the characters and what is at stakes. The overall quality of this series is mindblowing but in a quiet manner. This particular episode deals smartly with questions of help, regrets and fate. Thank you to all involved in this gift of a show.

Songbird Road: Part Two (#3.12)
ComedyFan20109 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The second part of their road trip to find their uncle is also really good. I especially liked Kevin trying to figure out what to do. And I get him, it would be so hard to leave your uncle there while you want to make his life better. But Nicky is done realistically, he lived like that for too many years. Like he told Rebecca he would like to be the person he was before but he doesn't think he can because so much time passed. This conversation he had with Rebecca was actually very beautiful. I hope we get to see more from him. He is part of the family after all. Randall and Kate visiting their old house and remembering that day their father came from seeing his brother was also good. Them having such different memories.

Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes there is no fixing a situation. Kevin takes it upon himself to deal with his uncle, who is living a life of squalor. It never occurs to him that the guy has been to countless institutional settings and met with numerous shrinks. Since he has had therapy, he has it in his head that this is the solution. What he can't do, is change a man who has lived, filled with guilt and pain, for decades. This portrays the beauty of this show. The classic TV script doesn't work. Others would have had him embrace his new found family. Kevin is still trying to come to grips with the loss of his father and his own insensitivity. He also gets to see that his father had weaknesses, one of which was his inability to share his deepest pain. There are some great moments in this one. Randall and Kate going to the place where they lived until the fire and meeting the family, seeing the house that was rebuild. Nicky and Rebecca finally facing off with very realistic results. We also are left with the question of Kevin's future. He is rich and could have easily helped Nicky, but Nicky could not live with those terms. This two parter is absolutely amazing.
