Nice message, a watchable short but a little too obvious
Peter_Young5 October 2023
The boomerang effect is nicely dealt with in this film. What goes around comes around, as they say, and adultery is probably no exception. Set in quite a large and pretty hotel room, the film presents an episode which is supposed to be a turning point in the lives of two individuals who have been cheating on their spouses with each other for three years. The development of the story is quite decent but then there are pitfalls. For one, the short is very static. Not only is it set in one apartment, it's actually mostly shot on one couch! You would expect more movement throughout the conversation. Even just him getting up a little earlier and moving around would do the job.

Technically the film is great, but the background music is quite annoying as it frequently comes in the form of rather annoying sting-like noises designed to punctuate the situation and sort of 'help' the viewers understand the homour and distortion of the situation. I can't stand such disregard for the viewers' intelligence. It obviously explains the fact that the script itself is lacking in spice. Acting-wise, Bajpayee is very good playing this rather annoying, selfish man. He totally gets the pathetic nature of the character, and then the pathetic nature of his situation. Pooja Chopra is quite okay, too. The moral of the story is nice but too obvious. A stronger blow was called for.

The least likable female character of the year?
Horst_In_Translation25 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Ouch" is an Indian 14-minute short film from last year (2016) written and directed by Neeraj Pandey and he just like his 2 actors in here are probably well known in India. Yes it is an Indian productions and part of it is in Hindi, but they did all they could to make it appealing to Western audiences: partially have them talk in English, use a simple English title and offer subtitles for the Hindi parts. The consequence is that this film reached over 5 million views within one year on Youtube. This may certainly a bit on the exaggerated side, but still, it is not a bad movie by any definition and the characters are interesting enough. It is a very sobering film I would say. The woman sure is a bitch for breaking their agreement so shamelessly and now his wife knows and she can effortlessly return to her life with her husband as if nothing happened. If I was the guy, I'd tell her husband immediately. He has nothing to lose anyway near the end, but he seems like a bit of a wimp to be honest still saying he loves her and still getting rejected when trying to kiss her. Then again, I somehow would not be surprised at all if she calls him two weeks later and says she rented a hotel room again. I think this film will evoke strong emotions in you and that's always a good thing and it's not a problem either that both characters are so unlikable. And please don't give me that courageous independent strong woman routine about her. Only a stupid feminist would say that after she betrayed the two probably most important men in her life. And shamelessly so. She is definitely bigger scum than he is, especially as he genuinely feels in love. Overall, there are many worse ways to spend a quarter of an hour. It's not best-of-the-year material, but a good watch from start to finish with the exception of the suitcase scene at the very end. Go see it.

A man in a hotel room. A lady to the same room. The detail of an illicit romance. But the things are little different by expectations and the rules are imposed not exactly by him.

The conscience of lady, a sofa not perfect and a suitcase are the stars of this short comedy about reations about sentimental adventure and the duty to family.

So, poor man, consolated with an usefull suitcase , between mother, wife and girlfriend , well acted by Manoj Bajpayee, and the fall of imagined future near the love of his life.

Not the last, interesting attention to details, realistic story and fine irony about middle age crisis and differences of perspective between men and women, in a not very often manner.
