I watch a lot of those Prison shows, and i read a lot of the science and practicability posts various Macgyver fans post here and i realize the two wont mix. But i did kinda enjoy this episode. I thought it would be like that 24 when Jack Bower did the same thing and it ended in Russian ROllette in jail and criminal trust. I do enjoy this show, its not the old but its okay. Like my Beloved Ecto Cooler drinks I'm stockpiling, i expect Macgyver to be 2016-2016. That said, today's episode started off with Mac and Jack chasing some bad guy through a train cargo yard. The Hot Lisa Bonet looking computer tech was helping them track him but lost him behind a train car satellite couldn't see. I enjoyed the dialogue of Jack yelling at Mac that his idea meant less running. I like Jack. But real Macgyver Jack should only be in 2 percent of episodes and be useless. But i digress. So Mac kinda soaks the ground with some chemical and luckily bad guy runs that way and Mac yells at Jack he needs a spark at that part of the ground from far away. I'd be like "huh" but he shoots ground, instead of bad guy and makes it catch fire which encapsulates bad guy in a ring of fire, approximately 2 feet high. Jack immediately falls down laughing and relaxes, not worried bad guy can jump over 2 feet of flame or has a gun. So today's problem now that the first action story is over, is some El Noche drug dealer king pin is in a Texas jail. Why Texas, i don't know, id put him in a north west one, deal with snow etc. likewise i'd put a Canadian drug kingpin leader in Texas. but that said, he was a good business men, preferable to his gang that took over and is doing a wave of violence against authorities. So the plan is, Jail Macgyver, have him earn the guys trust, break him out and get ride to his secret hideout and have it exposed. OK so its like 8:20 and I'm wondering how all this will happen. Its very Shawshanky and he drives in a bus to jail and you see him have flashbacks with Lisa Bonet about how to survive. So you have to start a fight, but punch the wrong gang member you are dead. so she finds aloner and he punches him but hes big and big fight etc. He has dialogue in jail with old guy who tells him hes stupid and will get killed but has an inhaler yada yada yada. then mac has laundry duty with El Noche. and he tells him "I'm smart, i know your rich, ill break you out if you give me a safe house" and El noche is like OK but go away this rival gang is here to screw with me. So El Noche head butts the guy threatening him, then Mac joins in and all the sudden El Noche tells him they are both in trouble for that and Mac has the means to get him to want to trust him and escape. KInda confusing. So Mac blows out the cell door, they run down a hall way, with guards right after them not shooting, hide when closed in and Jack the Prison guard makes it seem they are in the kitchen and EVERYONE but one guard leaves. El Noche goes to kill guard but Mac stops him. As El Noche said, there are many doors and gates and walls til freedom so I'm expecting this to take a long time and notice its like 8:40 PM. Then Mac burns some iron with a broom that doesn't melt and they go out a window, loudly, with a ladder they made loudly, make it look like they jumped into the yard and loudly go to the roof, which has no guards ,cause like only 10 are chasing them and it reminds me of that Simpsons were homer is being chased around a tree by Wiggum and he asks for back up and Lou follows Wiggum running around the tree. So then all the sudden they are in the woods, and free and El Noche whistles and a bunch of dudes show up and kidnap Mac, cause El Noche saw that he didn't allow that guard to be killed. Jack Bower would have let the guard be killed for greater good. So he is taped down in chair , tortured but then helicopters come and he is saved. Cause he did Morse code on the taillights in the trunk and they saw it . I was expecting him to break the taillights so the Spanish guys would instantly be pulled over in Texas. So this episode they played with the plot idea that Lisa bonet talks tech and the guys don't listen and she really had a bad time in Prison and harps on it a lot. if she was a guy it'd be gross. But screw this episode , i mean really, there was that show Prison Break that lasted what 3-5 seasons and the guy needed to tattoo the jail layout on his back and this one was like five minutes of it? but apparently next week is the premiere of MURDOCH. YAY.

This time MacGyver has to extract a drug lord from a high security prison. This is a solo mission, even if Jack will be helping him as a guard and Riley will try to help from the security of the Phoenix premises. MacGyver all by himself does for some variety, and his creations are OK enough (not great, but acceptable). However, it is just another extraction (one) and the script crosses the line into the ridiculous a couple of times (as MacGyver comments about being in prison) (two).
It is, at least, entertaining enough, and the dynamics between the characters are, after seven episodes, settled enough that we can just enjoy the proceedings. It could be improved, by a lot, but for now it makes for an acceptable show (even if morally a little bit uneven).
