However, these aren’t Obama’s words. Partway through the video, the screen splits to show that Jordan Peele is the person voicing the video, which is titled, “You Won’t Believe What Obama Says In This Video! [winky face].” In Comedy Central’s Key & Peele, the latter often impersonated the former president.
The “You Won’t Believe” video, which came out today on the BuzzFeedVideo YouTube channel, was the brainchild of Peele and BuzzFeed’s CEO and founder Jonah Peretti. The idea was to raise awareness of false news reporting and teach viewers how effective video and audio manipulation can be in convincing people to believe someone has said something that they didn’t.
