- Ragnar's late return home get a rather chilled welcome, which even inspires him a failed suicide by hanging. Firstborn Bjorn turns down a request to join his father on a vindictive trip back to Essex, having ordered a novel fleet from Floki for his own ambition, a raid in the even richer Mediterranean. Bjorn's siblings are all invited with Ragnar, but none seems willing. After watching from hiding his siblings enjoying sex with slave Margrethe, cripple Ivar, who proves himself their equal wielding Viking weapons, wants and gets his turn, but can't perform and barely resists killing her to bury that embarrassing secret, she convinces him infertility isn't emasculating where it count, least of all for a prince of Ragnar.
