- TriviaDuring the Winterfell feast scene, when Tormund is speaking about Jon riding Rhaegal, a modern paper coffee cup could be seen near Daenerys. The coffee cup received considerable news coverage and social media discourse, dubbed "CoffeeGate". Many news sources incorrectly stated it was a Starbucks cup, it was actually from the Belfast, Ireland coffee shop Paper Cup. HBO confirmed the next day on Twitter that it was an error, stating "The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea." By Tuesday morning HBO updated their OnDemand and streaming platforms with a new version of the episode with the coffee cup digitally removed, and confirmed the new version would be used for future airings and home video releases.
- GoofsDuring the feast scene at Winterfell, a modern paper coffee cup was visible in front of Daenerys. HBO released a new version of the episode two days later with the coffee cup painted out.
- Quotes
Cersei Lannister: If you have any last words, now is the time.
Missandei: Dracarys.
- Alternate versionsThe version that originally aired had a modern paper coffee cup visible in one of the scenes (see goofs). The scene was re-processed to digitally remove the cup (which was from a local independent coffee shop called 'Paper Cup' in Titanic Quarter, Belfast, near to the set), and only that version is now officially available.

Only superfans could ignore the dip in quality...
...and only the MOST loyal of professional reviewers are still clinging to hope that this will turn out well.
This episode wasn't awful, nor does it deserve anything above a 5/10. The good scenes (Tyrion/Varys, Dany seeing her hold to the throne slip, Sansa asserting herself) were balanced by the bad parts (awful pacing, the last 20 minutes in totality).
This feels like standard cable TV writing in a universe that once had better writing. That's kinda it. The spoilers are out for episodes 5-6 and, from what I've read (I've avoided the spoilers themselves but saw reactions) it doesn't end in a way that is better-than-TV writing expected. Cliches abound, apparently.
So, I'll try and enjoy what few surprises and action scenes that'll likely come. I'll try to ignore the poor pacing and plotting. I recommend anyone reading my review do the same.
And to those superfans giving it 10/10, good on you. You've linked your entire personality to the show for nearly a decade. Anything less than a 10/10 would be like saying your own kid is ugly. It's a reflection on you and your choices. I get it.
