Results for the 42nd Razzie Awards are in — and if you had anything to do with “Diana: The Musical,” you might want to go back to bed.
The big, fat Broadway bomb about the Princess of Wales beamed into your living room courtesy of Netflix was this year’s big Razzie “winner,” taking home five of what the group calls its “un-coveted … tacky, gold-spray-painted statuettes.”
The streaming version of the stage musical bagged Worst Picture, Worst Actress (Jeanna de Waal), Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Director (Christopher Ashley) and Worst Screenplay. The group pointed out how richly the “Diana” script deserved the honor for “featuring some of the year’s most ridiculed dialogue and lyrics — Including rhyming ‘Camilla’ with both ‘Manila’ and ‘Godzilla.'”

The winners of the 42nd annual Golden Raspberry Awards were announced on late Friday night/early Saturday morning, with two of the most well-known recipients being Jared Leto and LeBron James. Leto “won” the worst supporting actor award for “House of Gucci,” for the very same role that earned him nominations at the Critics Choice Awards and SAG Awards. James “won” the worst lead actor trophy for “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” the half-cartoon flick that was also named worst sequel and worst screen combo. Scroll down for the complete list of Razzie Awards 2022 winners, which are noted in gold.
Voters chose “Diana the Musical” for worst picture, but that wasn’t all. The Netflix streamer also “won” for worst lead actress (Jeanna de Waal), worst supporting actress (Judy Kaye), worst director (Christopher Ashley) and worst screenplay (Joe Dipietro).

Nominations for the 2022 Razzie Awards have been announced, spotlighting the worst films and performances of the last year. Leto is nominated for worst supporting actor opposite the likes of Ben Affleck in “The Last Duel” and Mel Gibson in “Dangerous.”

As is tradition, the Golden Raspberry Awards announced their contenders on the eve of the Oscar nominations. The Razzies, now in their 42nd year, are a tongue-in-cheek ceremony that “honor” the worst films of the year. Scroll down for the full list of nominees in all 10 Razzie Awards categories ranging from Worst Picture to Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel. Unique to this year is a category dedicated to Bruce Willis and his eight performances in pictures last year.
Leading the 2022 Razzie Awards nominations roster is the Netflix version of the Broadway flop “Diana: The Musical” with nine bids. Tied with five apiece are “Karen” and “The Woman in the Window.” Each of these ill-conceived movies counts a Worst Picture nomination among its haul. Joining them in that race are the sequel “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and the sci-fi flick “Infinite.”
As usual, “winners” will be decided by Razzie members.

On VOD, Universal’s “Nobody” and the debut of the latest Liam Neeson action film, “The Marksman,” topped the charts along with “Nomadland.” The Bob Odenkirk thriller “Nobody” has been overall the top performer for its initial three weeks of $19.99 home play (with the studio collecting $16 for each rental). It is the sole title to make all four charts, placing #1 at GooglePlay and Spectrum, second and fifth at Fandango and Apple TV. Two million rentals would mean $32 million in studio rentals.
For “The Marksman,” Open Road held to the pre-pandemic 75 day window, grossing a little under $16 million in domestic theaters, before going PVOD. It took #1 at FandangoNow, #2 at Apple TV, and #3 at GooglePlay.
“Nomadland” took the final top spot, placing first at Apple TV at $5.99 after a PVOD release (and while it still runs on Hulu). It is #9 at GooglePlay and #5 at FandangoNow, where it ranks highest among non-pvod titles...

Not Without My Daughter: Gallo Blunders with Absurd Thriller
The appeal of beholding a train wreck is assuredly a vibe based upon the morbid yet innate curiosity such tragedies inspire in humans. In a metaphorical sense, a film which earns a facetious comparison to the trauma of a vehicular accident can tend to court a cult audience, most often when accidental entertainment is the result.
Longtime Hollywood scribe and director George Gallo, who penned the 1988 comedy classic Midnight Run and received story credit for 1995’s Bad Boys, lassos Morgan Freeman for a third time in the risible Vanquish, a Z-grade action thriller penned by Samuel Bartlett (originally written in 2014).…...

Is New Action Film, ‘Vanquish’, Starring Morgan Freeman and Ruby Rose, Something We’ve Already Seen?
Photo: ‘Vanquish’/Lionsgate An Unpredictable And Interesting Duo The first aspect of an upcoming film that I always pay attention to is the casting. The cast choices are just as important as the writing and cinematography of the film, in my opinion. What’s the point of creating a film with a bland, unappealing, unrelatable cast? The audience has to believe that the characters they’re meeting are real, and their actions are believable. Most films get this area spot on, while some films just don’t make the mark. Sebastian Stan and Denise Gough set off on a whirlwind weekend romance in Monday, a romantic drama that IFC Films released in theaters and on-demand Friday.
It’s the fourth feature from director Argyris Papadimitropoulos, who also wrote and produced the film.
Here is the plot: When Mickey (Stan) is dragged away from his DJ set by a drunken friend and introduced to Chloe (Gough) one hot summer night in Athens, the attraction between the pair is immediately palpable. So palpable that before they know it they’re waking up naked on the beach Saturday morning. And so it goes that a one-night stand on Friday turns into a whirlwind weekend romance that leads to serious conversations when they face the harsh sunlight on Monday morning.

Early on in “Vanquish,” Ruby Rose as Morgan Freeman’s improbable housekeeper is very awkwardly chopping some vegetable — the awkwardness providing a rare plausible moment, as Rose seems an even less likely maker-of-dinner than she does slayer-of-many-criminal-goons. If she’d kept slicing that carrot or whatever for the remaining 90 minutes here, the results would have been approximately as exciting as the high-body-count action occupying most of veteran writer-director George Gallo’s feature.
“Vanquish” isn’t bad so much as inert — nothing here is convincing, tense, kinetic, outrageous, or silly enough to give the movie even fleeting life. The script is so by-the-numbers, the performers can hardly hide their disinterest, a feeling soon to be shared by viewers lured by the promise of these stars in a violent revenge tale. Lionsgate opens it in select theaters April 16, followed by on demand and digital release four days later.

Morgan Freeman’s Disabled Villain Isn’t the Biggest Problem With ‘Vanquish,’ His Cheesy New Thriller
It’s been ages since Morgan Freeman gave a performance that wasn’t more appealing than his own persona. His new thriller, “Vanquish,” gets at the essence of the challenge: Left to his own devices in a cheesy, half-baked thriller that finds him playing a disabled cop with a criminal past, he surrenders the knowing grin and cocked eyebrow routine that has solidified into a punchline, and this pulpy B-movie could use exactly that.
“Vanquish” stands in striking contrast to other recent Freeman credits where he plays himself just right. Released in the aftermath of his hilarious celebrity narration to the funeral sequence of “Coming 2 America” and his request that Americans get vaccinated in a widely circulated PSA,
It’s always intriguing to watch perennial good guys try to go bad, but “Vanquish” doesn’t give the man nearly enough substance to make that gamble worthwhile. As Damon, a...
