In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named Dcu, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.
In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ featured films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series such as ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold....

When Gunn & Safran assumed roles as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studio, they declared a complete revamp of the old Dceu and revealed numerous projects, including live-action films, TV series, and animations.
While some projects like ‘Superman’ set for a 2025 release and ‘Creature Commandos’ are in production, details on others remain scarce, with occasional rumors and leaks hinting at casting or plot points. Among the highly anticipated shows were ‘Booster Gold’ and ‘Lanterns,’ and we’re excited to share some updates on them.
Production Weekly reports that both ‘Booster Gold’ and ‘Lanterns’ are set to begin production in 2025.
Originally, ‘Lanterns’ was conceived as Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern Corps film within the Dceu, slated for a late 2019 release. However, plans shifted with the announcement in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, indicating a change in direction. It’s been over two years since the final episode of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ aired. The show ended suddenly after seven seasons, catching even the creator off guard, which is why it ended on a big cliffhanger.
Fans wanted it to come back to wrap things up, especially because of the surprising ending. The person in charge of the show, Shimizu, felt sorry for not being able to finish it properly, blaming contract issues. They tried to bring in Booster Gold in the last episode to convince the network to keep it going, but Warner Bros. didn’t want to continue due to studio lease problems, so it got canceled.

Another significant project, ‘Peacemaker,’ was confirmed to be part of the Dcu, with Season 2 already in development. Since the Dcu is still in its development stage at the moment, there are a lot of decisions to be taken for the future of the franchise. Thus, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are still in the process of hiring new stars that will become crucial parts of the entire narrative going forward, which has led to a lot of speculations being put to the test.
James Gunn and Margot Robbie on the sets of The Suicide Squad
Among the many rumors that were being churned out, there was one that stated Booster Gold, a character from the pages of DC Comics might become part of the franchise’s events, which has not only been confirmed but has also been successfully assigned to a star. If Gunn’s early claims are true, many people believe that the actor that the role went to was none other than Chris Pratt.

DC Studios co-chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran will consult with the Leavesden expansion team to “ensure that their ideas are incorporated” into the new facilities.

Spoilers for Blue Beetle. Consider yourself warned. Although Blue Beetle may not be performing at the box office the way Warner Bros. was hoping it would, the movie has received warmer reviews than the last few DC movies. The film also has a connection to the new DC Universe as James Gunn has said that Blue Beetle is the first Dcu character. Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto told THR that the mid-credit scene could provide a clue to that Dcu future.

The Blue Beetle mid-credit scene reveals that Ted Kord, the original Blue Beetle, is still alive. As Warner Bros. didn’t tell Ángel Manuel Soto to cut the tease, he’s optimistic that it will have the chance to be continued.

[This story contains spoilers for Blue Beetle.]
Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto is hopeful about the future of his characters and storylines, and the mere presence of the film’s mid-credit scene is a big reason why.
DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has already confirmed that Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle has a future in the new Dcu, which officially kicks off with 2025’s Superman: Legacy. But Soto previously told THR that he expects Jaime to have company, including the extended Reyes family and Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine).
With the mid-credit scene revealing that Jenny’s father (and the second Blue Beetle) Ted Kord is still alive, Soto likes the odds of this thread continuing since Ted is also tied to Booster Gold, a character that has a Max series in development. And considering that Gunn and his co-dc boss Peter Safran have cut a number of scenes from the last remaining...

The newest DC movie and the 14th installment of DC Extended Universe ‘Blue Beetle’ recently premiered in theaters. However, the movie didn’t really premiere with a bang, at least not in a commercial sense. The movie grossed merely $41.4 million worldwide during the opening weekend, which is shameful even when it’s compared to ‘The Flash,’ DC’s most recent box-office bomb, which grossed $139 million worldwide on the opening weekend.
We don’t want to play a general after a battle, but it was suspected that ‘Blue Beetle’ wouldn’t do well commercially, despite the fact that it’s undoubtedly the best-reviewed DC movie since last year’s ‘The Batman’ or, if we stick only to Dceu, since 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ which was also commercially unsuccessful, although that movie was released in theaters and on the HBOMax streaming service simultaneously. This certainly puts a big question on the future of Blue Beetle in Dcu,...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Blue Beetle,” now playing in theaters.
Warner Bros.’ “Blue Beetle” has arrived, and it marks another in-between point for the DC Universe, which is in the middle of being rebooted by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new co-CEOs of DC Studios.
The most recent DC movie, June’s “The Flash,” effectively rebooted the entire superhero universe by smashing together different worlds and timelines of beloved heroes. That movie intertwined multiple versions of Flash, Batman, Superman and Supergirl, leaving behind a mixed-up, mainline world that has yet to define who sits on the current roster of heroes.
So where does Blue Beetle fit into that new DC world?
Besides a few mentions of Batman, Superman, the Flash and cities like Gotham City, Metropolis and Central City — Jaime rocks a Gotham Law hoodie, while Uncle Rudy (George Lopez) jokingly scoffs at Batman, calls the...

“Blue Beetle,” now in theaters, is the latest movie that mines the rich DC Comics catalog to bring a new superhero to the forefront. In this case it’s Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), who lives in the fictional, superhero-free coastal Texas town of Palmera City. He comes from a more ethnic neighborhood and his family is facing eviction from the evil, monolithic Kord Industries. All seems hopeless, until a magical intergalactic scarab fuses with him, turning him into the Blue Beetle.
This is all well and good (and the movie is a ton of fun) but the question remains: where does “Blue Beetle” fit into what was once known as the DC Extended Universe and is now being referred to, simply, as the DC Universe? The question has even more importance after “The Flash” earlier this summer, which introduced both time travel and multiverse-hopping to the DC Universe.

The DC Universe has a new superhero in Jaime Reyes, the first Latino DC superhero, and a rare superhero whose entire family is a big part of their story. Family and the idea of legacy are big elements of the film, which explores the history of Mexican resilience in the Reyes family, and the future that Jaime represents.
That legacy also involves other Blue Beetle heroes, because even though they aren't a big part of the story, they offer something unique to the film. Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is just now starting to explore the idea of legacy and the passing of the torch, shows like "Young Justice" have made a name for themselves by diving into the importance of legacy in the DC Universe. Gal Gadot’s ‘Wonder Woman 3’ has been taken off the shelf and is now no longer in development despite Gadot being more than open to do another Wonder Woman movie.
According to Variety, while Gadot had made several comments that the new Dcu heads James Gunn and Peter Safran will develop a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ with her, that is not the case right now, and neither do Gunn or Safran have any plans right now to develop any movie based on the iconic female superhero at DC Studios.

James Gunn has found his hero: David Corenswet has officially been cast as Clark Kent/the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. He’ll be joined by Rachel Brosnahan, who has been tapped to play Lois Lane in the DC Studios film. Gunn himself confirmed the news on Twitter, adding, “They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.”
The news comes after a months-long talent search. Both Corenswet and Brosnahan’s names have been at the top of the pile since May, while Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were also vying for the cape and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were up for The Daily Planet’s star reporter. Reports that Gunn and his co-dc Studios boss, Peter Safran, had screen-tested all six actors earlier this month signaled that a final decision was near.

The first chapter of the new DC Universe will officially get underway with Superman: Legacy, but the movie may also introduce a few other upcoming Dcu characters. In THR’s Heat Vision newsletter, the upcoming Superman: Legacy screen tests were mentioned, but there was an additional tidbit which stated that members of The Authority will also be appearing in the movie.
The THR report states that “roles such as Lex Luthor and members of supergroup The Authority, which are to be introduced in the movie, will be cast after.” Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, The Authority are a group of heroes who take matters into their own hands to do what they believe is right. The original team consisted of Jenny Sparks, Jack Hawksmoor, Swift, Apollo, Midnighter, The Doctor, and The Engineer. It’s too early to say which members of the team might show up in Superman: Legacy...

In late August 2022, Ezra Miller trekked to Warner Bros. for their first meeting with film chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. The sit-down followed months of legal and personal troubles for the actor, with a string of arrests and bad headlines threatening to derail The Flash, the $200 million feature Miller had been attached to since 2014. A few weeks earlier, Miller apologized for their behavior — which included trespassing and choking a woman in Iceland in an incident captured on video — citing “complex mental health issues.”
The question on everyone’s mind that day in August: Could Miller stay out of trouble, and out of the headlines, long enough for The Flash to safely enter theaters? Ten months later, the answer appears to be yes. Miller has not only stayed out of the headlines, but the actor is nowhere to be found in the press as the film sprints toward its June 16 release date.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav praised “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn during MoffettNathanson’s inaugural Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, questioning why the filmmaker and now DC co-chief was not put in charge of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“What we tried to do is get really great leadership. The philosophy of our company is we don’t want people to go to meetings, we want the people to do the work,” Zaslav said. “So when I was meeting with James Gunn and he was writing ‘Superman’ and he had written ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ — which is now a big hit for Marvel, which we’re happy about because Gunn wrote that movie and directed that movie — I’m looking at it and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Why isn’t this guy running Marvel?’ He grew up his whole life with DC, his whole life with these...

There may be no better example that shows what a chameleon actor Lee Pace is than his role as Ronan the Accuser in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Pace is virtually unrecognizable as the radicalized Kree enforcer, mostly thanks to the work done by makeup artist Lizzie Georgiou, who also helped finalize the looks for Yondu (Michael Rooker), The Collector (Benicio Del Toro), and the presumed leader (it's really Rocket) of the Guardians, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). Without all the extensive makeup caked on, fans will know Pace as tech entrepreneur Joe MacMillan in AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire," and horror aficionados will remember him from Halina Reijn's housebound thriller "Bodies Bodies Bodies" from last year. Pace was also perfectly cast as the wise elf Thandruil in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is actually changing. James Gunn and Peter Safran are moving closer and closer to unleashing their brand-new take on DC's movie and TV properties, and there is a lot to be excited about. At long last, we're getting a modern "Swamp Thing" movie, Superman is returning to his dorky form, there will be new animated shows, and so much more.
Arguably the most thrilling part of this new DC Universe has to do with Batman. Now, to be fair, we've only just gotten an excellent Batman movie courtesy of Matt Reeves and we've never really stopped seeing Batman in TV and film, so it's understandably hard to argue that yet another Batman is the coolest part of a brand-new universe — especially when there will also be a "Booster Gold" TV show. And yet, the upcoming "The Brave and the Bold" has something...

After teasing that he and fellow DC Studios CEO Peter Safran today began talking up some of the movies and shows we can expect. And that includes new versions of Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Green Lantern and more. Watch the announcement here, and read the full breakdown below.
Gunn started by confirming that the existing DC movies still to be released — Shazam! Fury Of The Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom – will all still make it to cinemas, with The Flash and its universe-rebooting nature proving key to helping to usher in the new paradigm. They will lead into what Gunn and Safran are calling 'Gods And Monsters', effectively the first chunk of the first part of the plan. It'll be a mix of TV (both animated and live-action) and movies, with games tying in as needed.
So what can we expect? Gunn talked up 10 initial titles.

Everyone seems to want a piece of Ryan Reynolds these days, and that includes the same studio that once asked him to play the Green Lantern. Yes, Warner Brothers is looking to work with the actor again, but this time, as a brand new character for the Dceu.
Reynolds’ acting career has had some serious ups and downs when it comes to making comic book movies. There was his poorly received performance in Blade: Trinity, followed by a lackluster version of Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, leaving many to believe the superhero cinema game wasn’t in the cards for Van Wilder. Then, the actor thought his career would launch into the stratosphere when he took on the role of Hal Jordan back in 2011, but the end result was less than stellar. The film was received very poorly by fans and critics alike, immediately ending his tenure as the Green Lantern.

The service comes with a hefty $15 per month subscription fee, with the idea being that the content available will be of such quality that viewers won’t be able to resist. We’ve already heard that some huge new DC shows are heading to HBO Max, too, with the highlight being the new live-action Green Lantern series, along with a number of classic DC movies, shows from DC Universe and the streaming debut of Joker, to name but a few.
But now, we’ve learned from our sources – the same ones who told us about that aforementioned Green Lantern show before it was officially announced – that some upcoming Dceu movies may skip theaters and premiere on HBO Max. The big name we’re hearing is that Booster Gold could be the first feature film release for the service.

When it comes to a character like Booster Gold, I’m actually quite surprised that he’s been considered for receiving a movie of his own. Then again, many superheroes who’ve raked in considerable dough in recent years were virtually unknown to the mainstream before being granted headlining gigs. That said, there is potential for this time traveling showoff to catch on with audiences.
Regardless of whatever positives can be mentioned, Booster’s journey to the screen has been pretty sordid. After making a memorable live action appearance on Smallville, word of a major motion picture focused on the character first surfaced back in 2015. Apart from that, SyFy once considered adding him to its prime time lineup, with the possibility of Arrowverse inclusion also having been discussed. Believe it or not, Stephen Amell once auditioned to play Booster, though it remains unknown which version he was referring to.

The Dceu will grow to include a Blue Beetle movie, making Jaime Reyes the first Latino superhero to headline a movie.
There's a Blue Beetle movie coming, as Warner Bros. continues to keep the Dceu alive and well.
Jaime Reyes is a teenager who finds a mysterious, magically powered scarab, that soon binds with his body, allowing him to manifest a powerful exoskeleton, fly, and project energy. A little bit Power Rangers, a little bit classic DC superhero, it's easy to see how Blue Beetle will translate to the screen. The Wrap reports that Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (the upcoming remake of Miss Bala) has landed the writing job, and Zev Foreman will produce. The Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner in 2005.
There's a legacy element to Jaime's story, as well. That magical scarab once belonged to Dan Garrett,...
