Family Guy is a pop-culture phenomenon that launched Seth MacFarlane's successful career in TV series, films, and music. Seth MacFarlane's inventive voice acting brings iconic characters like Peter Griffin to life with humor and relatability. Characters like Dr. Hartman and Seamus are portrayed with unique voices that add depth and humor to the show's dynamics.
Few shows have enjoyed the same longevity as Family Guy. Despite two cancelations and its share of controversies, Family Guy is still going strong after 25 years. Not only has Family Guy been a success for Fox, it launched Seth MacFarlane's career, allowing him to create other popular projects like American Dad, The Orville, and Ted. Seth MacFarlane has become something of a household name over the past 25 years, with several successful TV series and films to his name, as well as a thriving music career.
Through it all, MacFarlane remains faithful to the series that launched his career.

This article contains spoilers for The Orville, Star Trek: The Original Series, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Featuring broad comedy and characters who don’t seem to be taking their jobs very seriously, the first trailer for The Orville suggested that the Fox series would be a spoof of Star Trek.
In said trailer, Captain Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) tries to eat a marble and asks an alien to move over so he is framed better in the viewscreen. Lt. Gordon Malloy (Scott Grimes) drinks beer while on duty, flying a shuttle, at 9:15 a.m. Commander Kelly Grayson’s (Adrianne Palicki) former marriage to Mercer is treated to rather stale “comic” arguments about going to therapy. Mercer’s reaction to Lt. Commander Bortus’s (Peter Macon) species being entirely male is to observe, with truly cutting and original wit, that they probably don’t have many arguments about leaving the toilet seat up.

Constellation stands out on Apple TV+ with its blend of sci-fi and thriller genres, captivating audiences with its unnerving story. Despite mixed critical reviews, Constellation boasts an impressive 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, bucking the platform's usual trends. The show's fast-paced plot keeps viewers engaged, offering constant revelations that appeal to the audience's desire for entertainment.
Despite continuing the trend of Apple TV+ releasing generally well-received sci-fi shows, Constellation has also broken the mold in a surprising yet significant way. Starring Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks, the show is a blend of both science fiction and psychological thriller, creating an unnerving, propulsive story that is both shocking and engaging. It's this combination that has arguably helped it buck a long-established trend with Apple TV+'s top sci-fi shows and become one of the most popularly acclaimed series on the platform.

Exclusive: Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), and Larry Joe Campbell (The Orville) have been set for guest star roles in the forthcoming second season of Fox’s popular workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale.
Others set to appear in S2 guest roles, as previously announced, include Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke, and Krystal Smith.
Premiering last February, the show created by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale plays Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

Seth MacFarlane remains optimistic about the future of The Orville, but the lack of updates on its renewal is frustrating for fans and cast members alike. MacFarlane's commitments to his other shows, such as Ted and Family Guy, as well as his passion for The Orville, could be causing delays in its renewal. The Orville's unique mix of serious sci-fi and humor, along with its connections to Star Trek, could potentially attract a new audience for season 4, but reducing the long gaps between seasons would be crucial for studio and streamer bosses.
The Hollywood profile of The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane is the sci-fi comedy drama's best chance for renewal, but it could also prove to be a major obstacle. The Orville season 3 ended in 2022, and there have been no further updates one way or the other about its future. While the lack of an official cancelation announcement does...

The Orville season 4 is still unconfirmed, and cast members have expressed uncertainty about their return to the show. Star Trek shows have a history of ending too soon, with certain branches of the franchise being canceled before their time. The Orville still has plenty of stories left to tell and could potentially continue for more seasons if given the chance.
The Orville's comparisons to the Star Trek franchise could become even stronger in one unfortunate way if The Orville season 4 doesn't happen. It hasn't been confirmed whether there will be another installment of Seth MacFarlane's Star Trek-inspired show, but at present, it's still possible the crew of the USS Orville could return for another season. However, certain voices involved in the production of The Orville have voiced various concerns and opinions regarding the show being renewed.

TV shows like Sherlock and The Book of Boba Fett remain in limbo as they are still unconfirmed for new seasons. The Orville and Supernatural have uncertain futures, with no official confirmation of new seasons or cancellations. The Sandman and The Handmaid's Tale have experienced delays, but production on their new seasons has resumed.
Networks have promised fans new seasons for several popular TV shows, but years have passed with no news, despite the shows never being officially canceled. The Covid-19 pandemic and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have understandably caused some delays, and several shows reassuringly resumed production near the end of 2023. However, others still do not seem to be moving forward.
Shows might be forgotten or indefinitely delayed for a variety of other reasons: The cast or writers are preoccupied with other projects, the previous season had a disappointing reception, or the network/streaming service is overwhelmed with other new releases.

Anyone who has seen "The Orville" will intuit immediately that show creator Seth MacFarlane is a huge fan of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." In addition to the archetypal characters one might find in any post-"Star Trek" sci-fi show, MacFarlane borrowed a lot of "Star Trek" stories and key notions for his series. "The Orville" takes place in a future devoted to starship-driven space exploration, and starships tend to look a lot like the U.S.S. Enterprise, with various workstations lining the walls of a bridge overseen by a pair of commanding officers. Likewise, the Orville itself belongs to the Planetary Union, an organization similar to the Federation from "Star Trek." On top of all that, the crew of the Orville is a melting pot of various alien cultures, and its workers have to overcome their differences to solve problems and engage in diplomacy.

The Orville, a parody of Star Trek, could potentially surpass the original Star Trek series in seasons if it gets renewed for a fourth season. Despite having the same number of seasons, The Orville has significantly fewer episodes than the original Star Trek series. While The Orville may surpass Star Trek in terms of seasons, the original series will likely remain unbeaten in terms of episode count.
The Orville is still in limbo, but its renewal would mean it eclipsing an important Star Trek milestone. Gates McFadden, known for her role as Dr. Beverly Crusher in Star Trek, would be a great addition to The Orville, possibly playing a mentor figure to Dr. Claire Finn. Jeffrey Combs, a versatile actor known for his various roles in Star Trek, would be a natural fit for The Orville and could play anything from a villainous Krill to a Union officer. Battlestar Galactica star Michelle Forbes would make a fantastic Orville admiral, bringing a stern and authoritative presence to the show and providing a great foil for Captain Ed Mercer.

Seth MacFarlane is letting fans know that Season 4 of The Orville is still a work in progress.
Created by MacFarlane, The Orville takes heavy inspiration from iconic sci-fi franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Mass Effect, though it's unique brand of humor also helps the series stand out on its own. It has proven to be a hit with fans, which is why it was picked up at Hulu for Season 3 after originally running for two seasons on Fox. Like the season that came before it, Season 3 was very highly acclaimed, but since its release in 2022, the future of The Orville has remained unclear. MacFarlane's latest update on the show, shared during an interview for the Logically Speaking podcast, was brief and vague, but at the same time, very promising.

The fate of The Orville is uncertain, with season 4 yet to be confirmed, creating a potential parallel to Family Guy's cancelation after 3 seasons. The move from Fox to Hulu for season 3 may change the criteria for cancelation, but The Orville could still be renewed. Family Guy's renewal after cancelation proves that a popular show's end may only be temporary, offering hope for The Orville if it's not immediately renewed.
The fate of The Orville is very uncertain, and its official cancelation could mean Seth MacFarlane experiencing something that would unfortunately be familiar. Ted season 1 was released on Peacock to rave reviews, leaving room for a potential season 2 and more stories to tell about John and Ted's "unique" life. A potential season 2 could explore John and Ted's lives as young adults in the working world and how they handle responsibility outside of Mom and Dad's house. Another idea for a new season could act as a prequel to the prequel, exploring Ted's early Hollywood career and how it shaped him into the foul-mouthed figure we know and love.

With the content machine back and churning after two strikes and a pandemic, television has become pretty crowded again. Even the most dedicated television-watcher might not realize a given show exists until the day that it pops up on their streaming service of choice’s front page. Many TV fans are currently having that experience with Ted, a TV prequel to the 2012 film of the same name.
Written and directed by Family Guy and The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane, the original Ted followed a teddy bear named Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) who was gifted sentience by a little boy named John’s Christmas wish. He and John (Mark Wahlberg) stay best friends well into adulthood, leading a hedonistic lifestyle that makes everyone around them uncomfortable. The Ted TV series, also created by MacFarlane, flashes back to John and Ted’s ’80s childhood.

The Orville has featured many Star Trek actors in guest roles, but one big name is still missing: Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Orville pays homage to Star Trek with its sci-fi references and 90s-era feel, and having Patrick Stewart make a cameo would be a fitting nod. While The Orville's future is uncertain, Patrick Stewart should join the cast if the show is renewed for a fourth season. Seth Macfarlane’s animated series Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad have become as culturally significant as The Simpsons. With edgy humor and non sequitur galore, MacFarlane segued to the big screen with the fantasy comedy Ted starring Mark Wahlberg about a man-child and his teddy bear who has come alive. Full of gross-out humor and equal amounts of heartfelt comedy, Ted was a smash hit and spawned a sequel. Since then, MacFarlane has made A Million Ways To Die In The West and the more serious science fiction series The Orville. Now, MacFarlane is returning to Ted with a Peacock prequel series that blends the sitcom format of his animated shows with that same blend of crass and feel-good comedy that has become his trademark.

Peacock's prequel series Ted reveals how the titular teddy bear began his chaotically endearing friendship with John Bennett -- but the TV format means that there's also more time to spend with John's family. On the big screen, John's parents were Helen and Steve Bennett, played by Ralph Garman and Family Guy's Alex Borstein. In the show, they've been renamed Susan and Matty, and the roles have been taken over by Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach.
While Ted still features plenty of Seth MacFarlane's trademark risky humor, the show also further develops John's parents into the anti-sitcom power couple. Between the writing and the energetic performances by the actors, Susan and Matty play against the wholesome family archetype seen in traditional comedies. Yet they also genuinely care about each other, as well as John and their niece Blaire. Here's what Scott and Alanna told Cbr about picking up...

Peacock's Ted series acts as a prequel to Seth MacFarlane's hugely popular movies -- meaning that audiences get to see the earlier years of the quirky Bennett family. Max Burkholder plays a young John Bennett, who befriends the titular talking teddy bear, while Giorgia Whigham is a new addition portraying John's cousin Blaire. What could be a prototypical antagonistic relationship between relatives is entertaining, because the actors find a genuine banter between their characters.
Ahead of the show's premiere, Cbr spoke to Max and Giorgia about diving into the world of Ted. How did Max go from the emotional drama of Parenthood to ten years later joining a wildly funny TV family? How did Giorgia approach playing the only main character who didn't have a film counterpart? Here's what they had to say about John, Blaire and the rest of the Bennetts as all seven episodes of Ted Season 1 are streaming on Peacock.

Plot: In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan and cousin Blaire. Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

It’s been well over a year since the third season of Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville concluded, but fans have been left in limbo regarding the fate of the series. Will The Orville return or has it been canceled? We still don’t know, but according to MacFarlane, the series isn’t dead yet.
“I’m trying to remember what the exact, well-worded politic statement was that Hulu put out…,” MacFarlane told TVLine. “All I can say is the same thing that Hulu said, which is the show is not dead. Nobody has told me that it’s dead from the network, so we’re proceeding under those auspices.“

Seth MacFarlane's involvement in the Naked Gun reboot brings promise for its success, given his previous experience in spoofing iconic properties and his ability to blend parody and satire. MacFarlane's collaboration with Liam Neeson in past projects showcases the actor's strengths in comedy, adding weight to his casting as Drebin Jr. in the reboot. Alongside MacFarlane, Akiva Schaffer's background in satire and comedy, including his success in reviving old properties, suggests that the new Naked Gun will likely stack up well against its predecessors.
With two years having past since he first joined the project, Seth MacFarlane has a promising update for the Naked Gun reboot. Acting as a spinoff of the spoof comedy The Police Squad, the Leslie Nielsen-led comedies revolved around a hapless detective investigating a series of major crimes in Los Angeles. “Getting punched in the balls really does stick out to me,” cracked Max Burkholder of some of his most memorable scenes playing young John Bennett in Peacock’s R-rated Ted prequel series. Mark Wahlberg embodied adult John in the hit Ted films, brought to life by comedic mastermind and nostalgia fan Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane returns here as writer, showrunner, and executive producer, and also voices Ted in a standout series that couldn’t arrive at a better time.
If you’re wondering if MacFarlane can top his film iterations about one guy’s bond with the Teddy bear that mysteriously came to life after an innocent childhood wish, fear not. This Ted is outrageously fun. Set in 1993, Ted’s fame has waned, and now he’s living back in the Massachusetts home of bestie, John, who’s 16 and coming into his own. Star Trek famously introduced a 'post-scarcity' future where citizens of the Federation no longer use money nor need to work in order to live. However, from the use of Federation credits to the Ferengi's favorite currency, latinum, the need for money in storytelling has confused this concept. The Star Trek storytellers have avoided addressing this specifically in canon, but through context, the economy of the Federation can be figured out.
There are a lot of scientific concepts in Star Trek that are both fantastical and difficult to understand. Warp drive, for one, doesn't technically break the laws of physics but is far more fantasy than reality. Transporters also have a logic to them, even though it's a fair debate if every time Kirk and the gang beam down somewhere they aren't, technically, dying and being reborn. Yet the one scientific concept Star Trek storytellers often avoid is how the economy of the Federation works.

The Orville, a sci-fi show starring Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Scott Grimes, Penny Johnson Jerald, and J. Lee, among others in primary roles, initially aired on Fox for the first two seasons — Hulu later picked it up for its third season. The show is created (written and directed) by MacFarlane himself and follows the story of a spacecraft called the USS Orville and the employees who work there. But what makes it different from other space-exploring sci-fi flagbearers like Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica? Well, The Orville has this unique blend of MacFarlane’s signature humor, a focus on character-driven...

Halston Sage's character, Lieutenant Alara, left The Orville due to her Xelayan biological complications, which caused her to become weaker in lower gravity. The show's producers never intended to permanently write off Alara and left the door open for her return. Halston Sage did make a comeback in season 2 and season 3 of The Orville, and there is a possibility she may return again in the future.
Why did Halston Sage leave The Orville? Halston Sage’s Orville crewmember Lieutenant Alara — Orville's resident tank and chief of security — was responsible for the safety of everybody aboard the starship, starting out inexperienced but evolving into a more than capable lieutenant throughout the first season. Alara Kitan also possessed superhuman strength, which was a product of her home planet of Xelaya having a higher gravitational pull compared to most. Seth MacFarlane is a successful and iconic figure in adult animation, known for creating shows like Family Guy and American Dad. MacFarlane ventured into live-action with the Ted movies in 2012 and 2015, with the first film being a hit and the sequel receiving less success. Now, a Ted origin series is set to premiere on Peacock in 2024, featuring MacFarlane reprising his voice role, and while there may not have been a huge demand for more Ted, fans of MacFarlane's work may still be interested in checking it out.

Seth MacFarlane's Ted is getting his own series on Peacock.
Peacock has released the trailer for a new Ted series by Seth MacFarlane. The show will drop exclusively on Peacock's streaming service on Jan. 11, 2024. The Ted series will serve as a prequel to the original Ted films, which premiered in 2012 and 2015 respectively. While the movies focused on the enduring friendship of the magically sentient stuffed animal Ted (voiced by MacFarlane himself) and human John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) in adulthood, the Peacock show will flesh out the duo's earlier years together as Ted attempts to help John navigate high school.

The Orville has one of the strangest runs in TV history.
The comedy-drama debuted on Fox in 2017 and was quickly renewed for a second season.
The Orville Season 2 launched an entire year on from its freshman finale, which is pretty much unheard of by broadcast TV standards.
Then, the series locked in a 10-episode renewal... with the caveat that it would air as a Hulu exclusive.
However, the wait for fresh episodes was over three years.
Now, 14 months from the end of The Orville Season 3, there have been vague hints about the show's future... until now.
Adrianne Palicki, who has been with the series since its premiere, has seemingly thrown cold water over potential new seasons of the Fox-turned-Hulu show.
While appearing on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast, she said, "No, not doing that," when asked about the potential of The Orville coming back.
