LoT channeling Miami Vice...works
imakk200110 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Most important takeaway: Thawne is a worthy Big Bad. They're really getting it right this season: less = more.

Love all the Mick moments: Mick (and Ray) stopping Sara: who knew hot head Heatwave would have a cooler head than White Canary. Mick trying to help Ray with his existential crisis. Luckily for Ray, Mick is actually quite perceptive. Love the reminder to NEVER cross the hot/cold gun streams. Calmly eating a dessert during possibly his last seconds alive instead of leaving Ray to stop (or not) the bomb is so Mick. From what we've seen so far, I'm looking forward to seeing his reaction to Snart's return as a baddie.

Given the budget constraint, I appreciate the judicious use of Firestorm in such a way that each appearance is always an unexpected surprise. Flying in to save Sara, Mick and Ray, and then swooping Clarissa out of danger: finally some heroic action for Firestorm.

Interesting way of incorporating Obsidian while also giving Mari more background. Colonel (or even Corporal) Cold: not gonna happen, Ray! Actor who plays young Martin was pretty good, he really sounded like Martin as a younger man. Sara spoke a Berlantiverse truth: Barry Allen is NOT the fastest man alive. Set up for Sara's fake out of Darhk (and viewers) was a good one.

This was fun to watch, zipping along with a good balance of action/character moments/surprises.

Score: 8.5

Legends Take a Highway to the Danger Zone
ThomasDrufke11 November 2016
We've all been waiting for a Legion of Doom focused episode, and while this wasn't necessarily it, we saw the birth of a relationship in Reverse Flash and Damien Darhk. That ended up being enough for now.

In a Miami Vice inspired episode, tonight took place in the 80's as Darhk and Thawne planned to start a conflict between Russia and the United States quicker than it's supposed to happen. The Legends were forced to take the initiative and slow things down at the White House (because of course the episode takes place there) before things could escalate. Meanwhile, Vixen and Nate went off on their own and found Obsidian still alive over 40 years after the JLA disbanded.

I know it seems like they are positioning Vixen/Amaya and Steel/Nate as a future couple, but I just don't care to see a romance be tackled again this season. The writers have failed on numerous occasions in the past in this area, and the last thing I want is for this season to be ruined by a botched romance. And if the last scene with her, Obsidian, and Nate is any indication, we may be in for another unnecessary romance.

Legends usually succeeds when they focus less on the deep emotional drama, and more on the mindless action entertainment (with some heart mixed in). This episode along with countless other Legends episodes have character arcs that specifically involve a character wanting to change the timeline for their own personal benefit. Jax struggled last week with the slaves, and tonight Sara once again grappled with killing Darhk, in order to save Laurel in the future. If I'm being honest, I'm really sick of the show using this as a backbone for character specific arcs. I want the conflict to come from somewhere else, we've been down this road too many times.

With that said, the one thing Legends has done consistently well this season is pairing off the Legends to create interestingly unique dynamics within the group. Of course, I'm aware that sometimes these pairings can make for some unnecessary romances (as mentioned above), but more often than not, the pairs have made this season worth while. Ray and Mick's pairing is pure gold. I've always loved Mick in this show and Ray has improved since his bold decision to blow up his suit for the greater good a few weeks back. Slowly but surely, Legends is becoming more aware of the great characters they have, so that the amazing action sequences have more weight to them. I have to give them props for that. And come on, who doesn't love the 80's as a backdrop?

+Pairing off the Legends has been good

+80's backdrop

-Kind of tired of the same old "changing the timeline for personal reasons" arc

-The idea of another useless romance. *fingers crossed*

Enjoyable

This show has become much more enjoyable in this second season. Imho because it stopped taking itself so seriously and not using such a heavy handed plot as the Savage/end of the world Arc. In my case that makes me much more forgiving of plot holes and historical inaccuracies.

Personally I would enjoy a show that's more stand alone episodes all together then an over arcing plot over a whole season like seems to be mandatory in todays TV shows. (And kinda opposed to how comics used to work in the first place where a story usually started in the mid of one comics and ends halfway in the next. Only rarely did you get a story that arced over multiple comics.)

BTW did professor Stein get plastic surgery? Cause his younger self has kinda Jug ears :P

Always love going back to the '80s

Very cool as I always like seeing Reverse Flash in any CW show. The review that gave it one star seems to be complaining about everything. Scramblewithme... I'm scrambling with you. What's your beef? Other than what you already stated in your review. I mean I always find it fascinating even if this is not an official crossover now they bring characters in from other shows. I mean yes Sarah's obsession can be taken a little too far but you got to understand where she's coming from. I mean if I could prevent the drunk driver from killing my mother I may just go ahead and do it knowing that it would completely change my life from everything that happened after that.

Dumb episode
scramblewithme24 September 2019
I'm sick of Damien Darkh. How many more episodes will he be in?? I just watched a whole season of Arrow with him in, enough already. And why is Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash messing with history so much?? And Sara's stupidity about trying to get revenge when she knows what could result. And Amaya needs to go away. She never should have gotten on the ship. And Ray chews weirdly/grossly. I still love Rory!
