“Calamity Jane,” Rémi Chayé’s critically acclaimed animated feature vying for an Oscar nomination, is set to roll out on The Animation Showcase, a streaming service dedicated to the industry.
The hand-drawn “Calamity Jane,” which marks Chayé’s follow up to “Long Way North,” will be the first animated feature film to be available worldwide on the service. Although it won the Cristal Award at the Annecy 2020 Online animation festival, the movie has yet to secure a U.S. distribution deal.
The director-driven feature is represented in international markets by Indie Sales, who previously sold the Oscar-nominated “My Life as a Zucchini,” and the Cannes title “Another Day of Life.”
The Animation Showcase, created by Benoit Berthe Siward in 2016, usually only streams shorts to animation industry professionals during the award season. The service will, however, allow “Calamity Jane” to be screened in order to increase its chances of earning nominations...

Maybe Movies’ “Zombillenium” and ”Champions,” from Spain’s Morena and Películas Pendelton, feature among 90 series lined up to participate at this year’s Cartoon Forum which is scheduled to take place on site in France’s Toulouse over Sept. 14-17.
France’s Maybe Movies, producers of “Calamity,” this year’s Annecy Cristal best feature winner, along with 2 Minutes will adapt “Zombillenium,” a 2017 feature directed by Arthur de Pins and Alexis Ducord. The series will unspool in a creepy theme park whose employees are all actual monsters.
The “Champions” series is another spin off, this time from Javier Fesser’s same-titled live-action feature “Champions,” a local box office smash hit and Spain’s 2019 Academy Award submission. It turned on a basketball team of adult players with intellectual disabilities. The series will follow a group of kids with various levels of disability as they go to class and face growing up.

The Annecy Intl. Animation Film Festival has announced the projects set to participate in this year’s digital Mifa Pitches, Territory Focus Pitching and brand-new Comics Mifa Pitches.
This year saw a record number of 631 project submissions, “But not at the expense of quality, which made the selection even more tricky!” Mifa head of projects Géraldine Baché told Variety. 38 were eventually selected to participate.
She added: “We felt the same about each of the categories: Creativity is definitely not lacking, and talents keep believing in their projects, doing their best to be different and innovative.”
Two recurrent themes among this year’s projects are women’s and environmental issues, often overlapping and helping define a very of-the-moment selection.
One of this year’s highest-profile titles is “Saba,” the next family feature from Maybe Movies, producers of 2009’s Oscar-nominated “Ernest & Celestine” and Annecy’s 2017 opening film “Zombillenium.” Maybe also participated...

Aiming to make an impact this Oscar season, the inaugural Animation Is Film Festival from GKids, the Annecy International Animation Festival, Variety, and Acifa-Hollywood launches October 20-22 at the Tcl Chinese 6 Theater.
The festival will present a selection of new animated feature films from Asia, Europe, South America, and North America, with juried and audience prizes and filmmakers attending most screenings. Additionally, the festival will feature studio events, special screenings, short film programs, and a Vr lounge.
Aif seems well timed: The Academy now allows all members to vote for animated features, using preferential voting. However, it remains to be seen what the dynamic will be in terms of mainstream versus indie nominees.
GKids, which has nine Oscar nominations (including this year’s “My Life as a Zucchini”), has seven movies in contention this season; four showcase in competition at Aif. The highlight is “The Breadwinner” (October 20), a coproduction of Ireland,...

Based on several graphic novels by co-writer-director Arthur de Pins, collaborating here with Alexis Ducord, Zombillenium is an entertaining, irrepressibly European animated feature grounded in an amusing gothic fantasy concept. The idea is that the titular amusement park is run by real vampires, werewolves, zombies and other creatures of the night, all pretending to be fake monsters. Given the supernatural themes and more spooky than usual content, this probably skews a little older than the all-ages demographic of most U.S.-backed cartoon features, which could help bolster the film's appeal as a niche item.

I've been following the development of this cool new animated project called Zombillenium for awhile now. I've seen a few trailers and clips posted online over the past few months and it looks like a seriously fun movie! The story is set in a horror-themed amusement park full of monsters. Today we have the first English trailer and a clip for the French film and I really hope you enjoy them.
Zombillenium is a theme park that is secretly run by different kinds of monsters like zombies and vampires, and the story follows a father who wants to work at the park to make his daughter happy. The film is based on a series of comic books by Arthur de Pin, and here's the synopsis for the movie:
Nobody knows, but the Zombillenium theme park happens to be full of real monsters! When a human, Hector, threatens to disclose the...

"You've seen too much." Check out the first official English-language trailer for a cool French animated film titled Zombillenium, about a horror amusement park run by monsters. The film is actually playing at the Cannes Film Festival this month, which is a good sign this might be worth catching. Directed by Arthur de Pins & Alexis Ducord, the story is about a father who decides to work at the Zombillenium in order to make his daughter happy. The theme park is secretly run by zombies, vampires, werewolves and other monsters. It's based on a series of comic books written by Arthur de Pin. I really like the animation style in this, and it seems like a fun, funky story. It might be perfect for an October release for Halloween, but nothing is set yet. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Arthur de Pins & Alexis Ducord's Zombillenium, from ScreenDaily: Nobody knows,...
