What Lies Beneath - The Effects of 'The People Under the Stairs' (2015)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Greg Nicotero, Robert Kurtzman and Howard Berger are interviewed in this sixteen minute featurette focusing on their work in Wes Craven's THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. The three men start off talking about their decision to strike out on their own and only work for their own company, which was a major risk. From here they talk about some of the smaller films they were getting like DR. GIGGLES then they start talking about working on the Craven picture. All sorts of great stories are told including what it was like working with Craven and why him intelligence makes for a different type of horror movie. We get some behind-the-scenes footage that was shot on the set as they were preparing various effects. There's even a nice story told about Ving Rhames and how he wasn't too happy with having to get a full body mold done. If you're a fan of the film or the make-up crew then you'll certainly enjoy this featurette, which hits on many different subjects and there's no question that the three men are highly entertaining in their ability to tell stories.
