Quotes

  • Bijjaladeva : What is it, you dog?

    Kattappa : My Lord.

Kattappa : What have you come to bark about?

    [his men laugh]

Kattappa : Baahubali's coronation will take place on the upcoming Vijaya Dashami. Queen Mother's orders were to give this news to you first.

Bijjaladeva : [Bijjaladeva angrily throws his glass away]  This is exactly what happened on that day as well! My throne was given to my younger brother, and now, my son's throne is being given to that very brother's son. My son, my son's son, and his sons, will we just remain slaves? Tell me, you dog, why wasn't I made king?

[He yanks away the cloth draped around him, revealing his damaged arm]

Bijjaladeva : Because I am handicapped? So what if one arm is disabled, is this iron fist not enough to rule our kingdom?

[he turns and punches a pillar with his good arm, breaking a huge chunk off of it]

Kattappa : You weren't rejected kingship because of your disabled arm my lord, but because of your handicapped brain.

Setu Patti : [angrily pulls out his sword]  Your orders, my lord!

Bijjaladeva : You dog! Have you forgotten that anyone who speaks ill about the royal family gets his tongue cut off!

Kattappa : Forgive me, but a person who thinks of killing his own wife, what is his brain but handicapped?

Bijjaladeva : [backs away, shocked]  You overheard?

Kattappa : No my lord. Since I am after all a dog, I was able to smell it!

    [bows and walks away]

  • Bijjaladeva : What are you doing, Kattappa? For generations, your forefathers remained in good favour with the King. They gained such prominence. Do you want to break your promise and destroy their glory? No Kattappa, rectify your mistake, kill Baahubali's son just like you had killed him.

Bijjaladeva : [Kattappa turns to see Mahendra fighting soldiers, Bijjaldeva places his hand on his shoulder]  Go Kattappa. Kill him.

Kattappa : [Kattappa hesitates, then faces Bijjaladeva and strikes him down]  Twenty-five years ago the Queen Mother had proclaimed Mahendra Baahuabli as our King. Thinking he was dead, I served a lie for all these years. Today our truth has returned. Kattappa never breaks his promise, my Lord.

  • Devasena : Kattappa.

    Kattappa : Your Highness.

Devasena : Didn't you bring me anything?

Kattappa : A slave like me isn't even allowed to bless you, Your Highness. What could I possibly give you?

Devasena : I will only ask for what you can give me? Will you give it to me then?

    Kattappa : Ask away then.

Devasena : In my kingdom, it is customary for the grandfather to hold the child before the mother, so that the child may have a long life. My father is no longer alive and neither is his. You will take my child in your arms won't you, Kattappa?

Kattappa : [Kattappa gets emotional upon hearing Devasena's request]

Kattappa : It's enough just to keep this slave in your company, but you have given me your father's place. I won't just hold your child in my arms, but hold him above my head.

  • [Devasena stumbles into Sivagami's chamber with her newborn son, where she sees Kattappa and Sivagami]

Kattappa : You elevated my status to that of your father's and wished for me to bless your child with my own hands. Yet these hands have now killed your husband!

  • Kattappa : Your mother and your motherland have been waiting for 25 years, only for you Mahendra.

  • Kattappa : [opening narration]  The war with the Kalakeyas ended, Baahubali and Bhallaladeva showed equal bravery and valour but impressed by how Baahubali protected his people, the Queen Mother announced him the King. The people started celebrating and anxiously looked forward to the coronation. That's when the Demon Burning festival arrived, which occurs only once every twenty-six years. As per tradition, to ensure prosperity in the kingdom, the daughter-in-law of the royal family must embark on the Fire Walk herself. She must walk barefoot 30 miles from the capital city to Mahdev's temple in the jungle, carrying a firepot on her head, and destroy the demon's effigy, not stopping until the task is complete.

  • Kattappa : Finally having the kingdom all to himself, Bhallaladeva's atrocities knew no bounds. Fuelled by his rage towards Devasena, he destroyed Kunthala kingdom. We all believed you to be dead son, but your grandmother sacrificed her own life to save yours. Your mother and motherland have been waiting for twenty-five years. Only for you, Mahendra.
