A gigantic, intense robot is trying to rescue his creator, but is facing tremendous odds. The problem is we don't know where this fellow came from and we don't know why he is being stopped and by whom. Once again, too few details which lead to little suspense other than the obvious danger.

Looks pretty good but lacks the heart it thinks it has

No-A is a large robot which has entered some sort of military complex to rescue the young woman who created him. Against an unknown enemy, he tries to recover her and get her out.

It is never fun to think a film doesn't work, particularly when it is one which has technical skills which I can only imagine and marvel at. This is the case though with No-A. Visually the film is probably not as sharp or fluid as it could have been, and it is pretty derivative in its design, but it still looks good for the budget and resources available to it. The film plays out as you expect, with the music indicating that this perhaps not have the happiest of endings for at least somebody. The narrative relies quite heavily on you really putting your heart into the situation, but unfortunately it doesn't really give you a reason to do so. So we have "big" moments which by design are meant to be emotional, but in reality they don't land with the viewer because we have no reason to really be too invested.

As a student project (which this is) it is technically impressive and shows good awareness of genre, and what sort of shots work – it just really needed more heart in there to pull off the asks it has at the end.

"it could be better". the first impression about an animation who seems to gray and unconvincing. but it is not exactly too bad. one of reasons - the story, remembering old fashion knight values or a classic King Kong. second - the name of huge robot, a sort of Frankenstein creature, protective, isolated, saving the world like the ancient Noah. result - a modest Sci Fi. nice. and that is all.
