Slasher Season 2 Vastly Superior
tonya-jarrett11 November 2017
I wish there were a separate listing for Season 2 of this anthology horror show, but this will have to do.

Not sure what happened but the quality of this second season blows Season 1 out of the water; production values, location, plot, acting. While it might seem there is the usual derivative disguised killer theme at work, there is guesswork on hand for the audience to make their own decision, clever use of flashbacks, and misdirection. Really, well done all involved. A good ride.

where AHS fails......Slasher succeeds.
theromanempire-118 January 2020
Finally we got a new worthy old school slasher tv series. this is how those should be done. A great old school formula with plenty of gore strong characters and scary moments which will leave you wanting more. I watched so far first two seasons and they succeed where AHS failed. thank god this was not another failed black parody of the 80s slasher genre like AHS was. when u make "slasher horror" make it right. don't make a foolish black comedy with idiotic supernatural elements like they have done at least in the similar "camp horror" season 9 of AHS. thank god "slasher" series are SERIOUS and first two seasons were awesome. especially season 2 was like re-watching the Friday the 13th series and that was a very nostalgic and great feeling all the f13 fans got when they watch this season 2 tribute to little Jason and him mom....LOL i'm sure season 3 will be great too and I can't wait to buy the dvd's and blu rays to watch this again and again with plenty of extras.

ALL IN ALL

if u are slasher f13 fan u must not just watch this series. U MUST BUY THEM.

1st and 3rd seasons: good after a slow start; 2nd season: excellent all the way; 4th season: the weakest, but strong finale; 5th season: the most ambitious, and better than 4
gridoon202419 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The 1st season takes quite a few episodes to really grab you, and at 49 minutes each, the episodes feel too long, but it does keep you guessing, and if you've grown tired of the wishy-washy endings of so many slasher films and series before, you'll appreciate the ending here: it packs an extremely violent just-desserts punch.

The 2nd season is gripping right from the first few minutes: tight, tense, claustrophobic, ingeniously constructed, with well-developed characters far beyond the call of duty, pays homage to Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" (with its isolated location cut off from civilization), and has a brilliant final twist which makes you wanna see the entire season again to check if it holds up (it does!). It's amazing what they pull off right under your nose.

The 3rd season gets off to a rocky start, because it tries to bite off more than it can chew (xenophobia, homosexuality, voyeurism, social media culture, etc.). Also the cinematography looks more shaky and amateurish than before. But gradually it finds its footing, and the last couple of episodes are pin-drop intense. It also ups the ante in gore, with generally very convincing makeup effects. The entire series is extremely gory and gruesome, but the 3rd season is probably the nastiest and most unrelentingly graphic.

The 4th season plays mostly like a (twisted) family soap opera rather than a slasher show. It has several flaws, like for example the unconvincing flashbacks with the same actors looking exactly the same playing their 25-year-younger selves (!), also giving away who is gonna get knocked off at the start of each episode. And the killer looks very obvious from around episode 3. But is he? Ultimately the season does manage to come up with its own set of surprises, and if it adds anything new, it's that the killer, although well-acted, is almost secondary to this story; nearly EVERY character has a nasty and sadistic killer streak inside them, ready to come out. The finale is a wild, gnarly ride, and riveting to watch.

The 5th season is perhaps the most ambitious: set in 1904 (with lots of 1892 flashbacks), with an adequate period reconstruction given the limited budget, and well-plotted. I found it an improvement over season 4 mainly because, although the majority of characters are again utterly vile, at least there are some good or halfway-good people as well, driven by a strong sense of justice. The finale is chillingly effective.

All five seasons are unrelated - they just share some of the same cast members, in different roles. If you just want to watch one season, the 2nd is still the best, but I would recommend all five to fans of the genre (and would advise anyone with a weak stomach to avoid them). 8 out of 10 for the show as a whole.

Gets better as it goes on...
bangel332216 April 2020
I wasn't a huge fan of season 1. I found it quite boring. But the good thing with these anthology series is that they're not linked, and so I gave season 2 a go....and I enjoyed it! I really like how they have used a lot of the same cast as well. Season 2 is a huge improvement but yet it's still quite a clichéd storyline. And it was easy to guess the killer by episode 4/5. Season 3 had a slightly different vibe and a very interesting storyline. And it was much better than season 2 although again, I had guessed the killer by episode 5. So I hope there is going to be a season 4, but if so I'd like a more complicated and intricate plot. I love to be totally surprised and blown away by an ending...but these are too easy. Nevertheless I have enjoyed seasons 2 and 3.

I really enjoyed the third season!!!
marko-marosiuk23 October 2021
I started watching from season 3 and now I am going to continue for sure! It was really entertaining even though I wasn't so happy when it was revealed who the killer was but it kinda made sense... Looking forward to watching other seasons!

Horror anthology as it should be
acedj16 December 2020
Move aside American Horror Story, there is a new king in the anthology world.

At the time I write this I have only seen the first two seasons, but my review would have been the same after just the first episode to season one. This is a Canadian made anthology series about serial killers. The writers do an excellent job with the plot and keeping you guessing as to the true identity of the killer in each season. As the title implies it is a series about someone murdering people a lot like the horror movies of the eighties. Where AHS is superior in the casting department, this series in far superior in the gore and story telling. The only exception to this is the second season of AHS which I do not feel will ever be bested by any series ever, but I digress.

For everyone that is complaining about the casting, as I stated before this is a Canadian made series, so I am sure that they casted Canadian actors first, and those actors do a great job in their roles. If you are a true horror fan, then I cannot ay enough good about this and I suggest you drop everything and watch it poste haste. I did not give it ten stars only because it is close to perfect but not quite there.

Full of flaws, but very enjoyable.
Sleepin_Dragon15 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed Slasher, an eight part series that managed to pack in some great moments and some fine scares. The irritations, major some would argue seemed not to matter, nor did they detract from my enjoyments, Katie McGrath's questionable accent, the heavily borrowed scary moments (a wardrobe scene, were they serious?) and some very dodgy effects. Not even the fact that I guessed who the killer(s) was after half an hour spoiled the show. As a horror lover I found the costume the killer wore almost iconic, brilliantly created. Some of the more subtle scares were very well done, the snake pit etc.

Not to be taken too seriously, Slasher is definitely worth watching 7/10

Suspenseful and well done nod to slashers.
mike6267628 April 2018
Ignore the reviews on here. Wait til a nice late night. Turn off the lights and dive in to a modern day take on the slasher genre so many of us loved during the 80s. You are not going to get Oscar winning performances. Ummm. It is called Slasher. But it's worth checking out.

Good show, questionable casting...
deadlypurpose19 May 2016
Like others have said, the casting of this show just felt off. Katie McGrath being the worse offender. She sounds like someone with a very heavy British or Irish accent during the first days of trying to sound Canadian or American. You can practically see her moving to her different marks and saying the lines she barely bothered to rehearse. I think trying to fake a neutral accent took up too much of her concentration and not enough was left for portraying a convincing character.

Other than that and other bad casting choices, the show was actually pretty interesting and held my attention for all 8 episodes.

Season 1 and 2 are worth the watch, but season 3 is a mess
hdtvkeith24 May 2019
Season 1 and 2 and campy throw back to 80's horror genre, but season 3 is a mess of soft porn and too much flash backs. I pile rate season 1 and 2 a 7-8, it season 3 is a 1 really too painful, but I needed to see the murderer.

Feels like it was made by fans, for fans.
lupitag-1185210 March 2016
Even though I enjoyed some aspects of MTV's new "Scream" series (minus the teen drama) and Ryan Murphy's "Scream Queens" on Fox was a guilty pleasure with more misses than hits, Chiller's first original series "Slasher" is everything they should have been. I'm not aware of who the creators are or what their horror pedigree is, but the first two episodes are the most "slasher-esque" out of any of the series previously mentioned. If the producers don't have a home shelf full of classic slasher titles, I'd never know, because "Slasher" feels like it was made by a fan, for fans.

The series, in classic slasher style, is set up to be a "whodunnit" (something its sister shows had in common), in which the audience will presumably discover the killer's identity in the season finale. But what makes the trip more bearable this time out is that, unlike MTV and Fox's offerings, we don't have to sit through a bunch of teenage angst and bad gags in between the mayhem. Whoever made the decision to have this story focus on adults (and I mean the house-owning kind, not the "I'm away at college" variety), the audience thanks you. Oh, the drama is there, but it's lacking the Dawson/Joey element.

As any effective slasher is only as good as its ability to create suspense, have a good amount of gore, and give us a menacing killer, the series pleasantly gets all of these crucial aspects right. We have ACTUAL suspense (P.S. young, pretty women in these things should never go out walking alone). The Executioner, the show's debut villain, is an imposing cross between the hook man in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and Ghostface (he proves he can run).

Add in a nice machete kill that I was surprised made it past the censors, and there's your gore aspirations being met.

The cinematography is also worthy of mention, as it's even better than "Scream" or "Scream Queens." A Chiller TV series having better production values than a Ryan Murphy production on Fox? I almost didn't believe it myself.

Chiller scores a hit with its first original series, and the first two episodes breeze by leaving you wanting more (instead of checking your watch, something I did frequently during "Scream Queens" interminable two hour premiere). "Slasher" is a love letter to slasher fans, and the next few weeks are going to be quite a ride. Thanks, Chiller.

Slasher

I really enjoyed this series. I love slashers and I have watched the 3 seasons and now I can say that there is quality on this product. Some of the murders are brutal and also plots are quite interesting. If you're a fan of movies like Scream, you are going to enjoy the ride.

Season 1 good, 2 better and 3 sucks
princesseve8125 May 2019
Was a great show with just the nice, simple formula for slasher movie fans, then Season 3 just threw it all away for the sake of the pandering to certain groups of people...Terrible

You get exactly what you expect from the trailers and the title and should not expect more. The first season is amazing the second one is ok-ish.

I dit like the first season, The Executioner. Very exciting! Also the storyline!! Some critic: towards the end I found it predictible and it lose some excitement. Some of the actors I didn't like very much.. but it is personal.. I guess.

But I will surely advise you to take a look, and I am certainly starting season2 very soon!!

Pretty Decent Anthology Slasher Shows
fay_star22 October 2020
I wasn't expecting much from these series, thought it may be a poor American Horror Story, but it is actually pretty good!

The stories and characters are independent to each series with some of the same cast.

All three series tell the story of different slasher serial killers. The stories are a lot more complex and unpredictable than expected which is great.

Series 1 is about The Executioner copycat murders based around the seven deadly sins and related to the original murder 30yrs before. The casting is great, good to see Katie McGrath in a leading role.

Series 2 is about a serial killer targeting a group of former summer camp workers related to a killing there 5yrs earlier. Almost has a I-know-what-you-did-last-summer vibe.

Series 3, the most recent, is the most enjoyable in my opinion, the most proper slasher. The story is around tenants of an apartment block being murdered, somehow linked to a murder the previous year. The ensemble cast is fantastic, dialogue is good and the whole series is bingeworthy.

All in all, I'm really looking forward to what season 4 has to offer.

Season 2 Much Better
gduncanuk30 August 2018
I rated S1 a 6, basically for the reasons others have given. S2 however is a different kettle if fish. Superb acting and storyline, good use of flashbacks. You can almost feel the anxiety in the lodge. Score bumped up to an 8.

Each trilogy/episodes.. Was thought out from storylines, actors, costumes, locations & more.

Had a mix of classic with modern horror, slow burn moments & suspense that made you guess(more than once)who the villian or villians are.

Definitely a recommend for a true horror fan,it will not disappoint you!

a pleasant surprise
the_bamm21 September 2017
Really confused by all the negative comments on here, particularly about the writing and the casting. The acting is perfectly fine, the story is interesting and engaging and for those complaining that it's derivative.. it's called 'Slasher'. How much blazing originality were you expecting?

Plus, it's got some fairly inventive and refreshingly violent kills, especially compared to the PG13 pussy-fest that was the MTV Scream series.

If you like Hallowe'en, Scream, Prom Night et al, check it out.

A mediocre show that quickly goes downhill
parnell-rj24 May 2019
I watched the first two seasons and was on the fence. I thought there were some decent elements to the second season, so I decided to give season three a go. What I would describe as a mediocre horror show quickly devolves into nonsense in season three. The writing is beyond horrible, the plot is sloppy , and the not-so-subtle political innuendos are out of place in a poorly conceived horror series. I found myself cringing at how bad the writing was throughout the entire season. Hopefully Netflix stops with season three before it gets any worse, although I'm not sure how it could.

Good seasons 1 2 and 3, season 4 was bad for me
vincentbedonineuville19 April 2022
I really enjoyed the seasons 1 2 and 3, for some reason season 4 does not feel the same.

It felt like a jigsaw vibe...Acting is not good, the red hair actress is aweful, i was expecting better with Cronenberg in it.

I will still watch season 5 hopefully it will be better my rating is based on the first 3 seasons.

Good concept undone with silly politics
davechaffin7 June 2019
The first two seasons are fairly watchable, but don't bother with the third. I couldn't even make it through the first episode. The social justice caricatures are simply cartoonish and the dialogue unintentionally comical. The show is otherwise well made, but the creators make a fatal mistake by abandoning good storytelling in favor of identity politics victim fantasy fetishism.

Good Better Average
Hmnsu199422 November 2020
The heading actually describes the three season of this slasher genre slasher series.

The First season has a good start with a good background, it also have some gruesome scenes in start but at the end it just become another normal suspense movie and falls flat.(7stars)

The Second season is actually good it starts good, its little slow in middle but the end is good. (8 stars)

The Third season i was expecting so much from it, but it only has some really gruesome scenes but the story is not good. Overall it's really average. (6 stars)

Watch slasher if you are fan of the slasher genre like me.
