- The discovery that Stevie was keeping secrets forces River to reassess how well he knew his colleague and friend. Unlocking her voicemails throws suspicion on somebody close to Stevie; somebody with real motive and a history of violence.
- Having received his psychiatric report River discovers that Stevie had a second phone. It reveals calls from the ex-convict brother she helped put away Jimmy, but he had an alibi for the time of her death. However there is evidence to suggest she led a somewhat risqué double life and River's partner Ira is perturbed that River is keeping facts from Chrissie. The latest manifestation is Jordy Merton, a site foreman who died in suspicious circumstances and whose wife River spares from learning about his secret. The more menacing manifestation of Cream, however, starts to appear more frequently.—don @ minifie-1
- River clashes with his new partner Ira, who wants to disclose the discovery of Stevie's second mobile phone to their superiors. River agrees to do so, but makes it clear that he wants to personally pursue the leads the phone has provided first. Simultaneously, he and Ira investigate the serious injury of a construction site's foreman in a suspicious workplace accident. To his surprise, River finds that the psychiatric report commissioned by his commanding officers following Stevie's death has concluded that he is fit to continue working.
