Oh, wow, it's Randy Discher! A shackled man is chased for a long way by another man and ends up in an explosives shed. The thing goes up, scattering his parts all over the place. It turns out he is an ex-con who has been working in a bakery where all the employees are ex-cons. The guy from "Monk" is the man running the bakery and offering these guys a second chance. Of course, nothing is one hundred percent. In another part of the show, Aristoo has received information that his brother in Iran is dying of brain cancer. He is willing to risk going back home, facing arrest, to be with his brother. Of course, this means that Cam must stay and hope for the best. We have Brennan acting rather erratically. She is a world renowned anthropologist but can't seem to understand basic psychology. She doesn't see it as a science but what can be more important than the mind in her field--especially when judging motive and reaction.

It sends a bad message.

Warning: Spoilers
The episode itself was fine. Well acted and interesting. But the message it sends about ex-convicts is odd. Brennan, as an anthropologist, should understand the socio-economic reasons behind Americas insanely high recidivism rate compared to other western countries. Instead, she continually asserts an opinion that few if any convicts can succeed when given a second chance. Its very out of character for her, especially since it's an opinion without concrete evidence to support it. The success rate of progams like the one in this show where ex-cons are given a stable job and work environment are very high. They reduce recidivism *drastically*. Yet the writers made every one of them evil. It's not based in fact, and it sends a bad message about a group of people who are very disadvantaged already.

How on earth they ended up with that conclusion I'll never understand. They obviously got the murderer wrong so I'm sensing a follow up for this one.
