One notable project will be transferred from Dceu into the newly established Dcu, and that’s ‘Peacemaker.’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 was already confirmed to be in development when Gunn clarified that the show will be canon to the Dcu and that he will make it work in a way that is not confusing for the fans at all, and that the transition between Dceu and Dcu at least as far as ‘Peacemaker’ is concerned will be as smooth as possible.
Now, Gunn went one step further by connecting the upcoming ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 with a highly-awaited animated project ‘Creature Commandos’ that’s supposed to be released this year.
Frank Grillo was cast as Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, after already being confirmed to voice the character for the animated show. This aligns with what Gunn said back when he was presenting the Dcu, that he would like for the voice actors...

A big change is happening as ‘Peacemaker’ moves from Dceu to the new Dcu. Season 2 is in the works and will be part of Dcu canon. Gunn assures fans the shift won’t be confusing and aims for a smooth transition between Dceu and Dcu, especially for ‘Peacemaker’.
Now, Gunn takes it a step further by linking the forthcoming ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 with the much-anticipated animated project ‘Creature Commandos,’ set for release this year.
Frank Grillo has been chosen to portray Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, following his prior confirmation to voice the character in the animated series. This mirrors Gunn’s earlier statement during the Dcu presentation, expressing his desire for voice actors to also appear in live-action roles.
Rick Flag Sr. was once the leader of the Suicide Squadron during WWII. This group, made up of criminals, was sent on perilous missions. Flag Sr. instilled discipline in them and led them successfully.

A couple of new genre movies are headed to Netflix in April, including M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and sequel Glass, but this coming month is sadly more about what’s *leaving* Netflix.
The horror films leaving Netflix in April 2024 include Day of the Dead: Bloodline, which will be leaving the streaming service on April 4. This one’s no huge loss for most fans, as the 2018 horror movie was another lackluster attempt to reanimate George Romero’s horror classic.
Deliver Us from Evil (2014) is leaving Netflix on April 11, director Scott Derrickson’s supernatural horror movie starring Eric Bana. The film was inspired by the real life experiences of retired NYPD sergeant Ralph Sarchie, particularly based on his book Beware the Night.
Both The Meg (2018) and Train to Busan (2016) are leaving Netflix on April 22, one a killer shark blockbuster and the other a critically acclaimed South Korean zombie masterpiece.

Frank Grillo, who played a tough villain in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is asking Marvel’s co-president, Louis D’Esposito, for a favor. He wants his character, Crossbones, back in the Marvel movies before he gets too old. The 58-year-old knows time is ticking, so he’s keen to jump back into the role while he still can.

This post contains spoilers for "The Purge" franchise.
2013's "The Purge" introduced an intriguing premise: in a near-future dystopia, all crime is legal for 12 hours once a year, allowing people to indulge in their most violent instincts. Written and directed by James DeMonaco, "The Purge" takes the home-invasion route, where a wealthy family unit finds themselves cornered by a bloodthirsty group of murderers itching to commit crimes without any consequences. The overwhelming success enjoyed by the film contributed to the making of an expanding franchise, with later entries retaining this core concept while introducing new socio-political facets to enliven their narratives.
While it is perfectly acceptable to watch the "Purge" franchise by the order of release date, following this format introduces some chronological issues, as later entries serve as prequels or expand the universe with some ties to the film franchise. Although we will be focusing exclusively on the movies,...

It’s been almost two years since we last reported on Steven C. Miller‘s werewolf movie Year 2,starring Frank Grillo. The filmmaker has offered recent updates on social media, teasing that the long wait for action werewolf carnage is nearly over and that it appears to have a new title: Werewolves.
The premise for Werewolves is described as “a supermoon event caused a latent gene to turn everyone exposed to the moonlight into a werewolf for one night. Millions died—and now, the supermoon is back.”
Katrina Law (“NCIS”) stars alongside Grillo as the brilliant geneticist, Dr. Amy Chen, who goes on a dangerous journey with Grillo’s character to saved loved ones, against a ticking clock.
That setup sounds like The Purge: Anarchy but with werewolves, and we’re so in.

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. Just because Halloween 2023 came and went doesn’t mean that the phantom glow of spooky season has to leave your screens. With classics like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Gremlins” fitting the October 31 holiday’s theme and spirit, it’s clear the best seasonally spooky movies aren’t just limited to those set on actual Halloween.
To reference one of the best birthday-themed movies ever: “Happy Death Day” might substitute as a greeting for countless horror celebrations, thanks to the undying catalog of slashers, creepy thrillers, and scary movies tied to just about every annual event. Cupid as a serial killer? Sure, he’s already plunged enough stakes into our hearts anyways to break them. A murderous Santa Claus replacement named Krampus? The holiday myths keep getting crazier. Who can forget Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving”? John Carver certainly gave us plenty to dig our fork and knife into.

Over eight years after the commercial failure of “Blackhat,” director Michael Mann is putting the blame where he feels it belongs: Michael Mann.
While promoting the upcoming Adam Driver vehicle “Ferrari” in an interview with Variety, the filmmaker briefly fell on his sword concerning the $70 million R-rated actioner. In January of 2015, it earned mixed-to-negative reviews and just $20 million at the global box office.
“It’s my responsibility,” Mann told the publication. “The script was not ready to shoot.” Like many of Mann’s pictures, “Blackhat” has gained a cult audience since its theatrical release, as well as a restructured director’s cut. While Mann blames himself, it also ran into the newfangled notion of audiences not wanting to see a big new movie star outside of his marquee character role.
Moviegoers didn’t care about Chris Hemsworth — talent and charisma notwithstanding — when he wasn’t playing Thor in the MCU.

The Forever Purge had been marketed as the franchise’s *final* movie, but creator James DeMonaco eventually walked back those statements with the suggestion that he may actually have one more Purge story in the tank. The plan, last we heard? To bring Frank Grillo back as Leo Barnes, his character from The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year.
“I think I’m going to write the next one, and if the audience wants it, we’ll do it,” DeMonaco told Daily Dead back in 2021. “Again, I think I came up with a new way to flip the whole thing upside down, and it’ll be five years after [The Forever Purge], but it takes America in a whole new direction and I think it would be a very interesting place to explore.”
DeMonaco explains to Variety in a new update this week that he finished the script “about eight months ago.

Almost two years have gone by since Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco let it be known that he had an idea for The Purge 6 that would get him back into the director’s chair (after handing The First Purge and The Forever Purge over to other directors) and see Frank Grillo reprising the role of Leo Barnes, the character he played in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year. But as time goes by, it was seeming less likely that this sixth Purge movie was going to happen. Earlier this year, Grillo indicated the shot-callers at Universal and Blumhouse weren’t sure they were going to move forward with this one. But in a new interview with Variety, DeMonaco seems confident that The Purge 6 is going to happen.
Today, June 7th, actually marks the tenth anniversary of the release of The Purge, which is why Variety got in contact with DeMonaco.

Last year’s The Forever Purge had been marketed as the franchise’s *final* movie, but creator James DeMonaco eventually walked back those statements with the suggestion that he may actually have one more Purge story in the tank. The plan? To bring Frank Grillo back as Leo Barnes, his character from The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year.
“I think I’m going to write the next one, and if the audience wants it, we’ll do it,” DeMonaco told Daily Dead last summer. “Again, I think I came up with a new way to flip the whole thing upside down, and it’ll be five years after [The Forever Purge], but it takes America in a whole new direction and I think it would be a very interesting place to explore.”
So what’s the latest on all that? Frank Grillo provides a fresh update to Empire Magazine in their February 2023 issue,...

The Forever Purge (pick up a copy Here), the fifth film in the Purge franchise, was said to be the final chapter in the series when it was first announced… but while doing press for the film last year, Purge creator James DeMonaco revealed that he had come up with an idea for one more sequel. One that would see Frank Grillo reprising the role of Leo Barnes from The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year. Then Grillo confirmed that he and DeMonaco were “committed” to making The Purge 6 together. A year and a half later, it doesn’t look like Universal has officially given the project a greenlight yet, but during an interview with Empire magazine (with thanks to Screen Rant for sharing the excerpt), Grillo said that he and DeMonaco are still working on pushing The Purge 6 forward toward production.

Universal has given the July box office a big start, as the second weekend of its tentpole blockbuster “F9” has combined with the openings of DreamWorks’ “The Boss Baby: Family Business” and Blumhouse’s “The Forever Purge” to push movie theaters to their strongest weekend since Memorial Day.
While Sunday numbers are expected to be lower than usual due to 4th of July festivities, Universal projects that its three films will gross a combined $75 million when Monday numbers are included. That would push the overall 4-day total to $105 million, topping the $98.3 million fueled by Paramount’s “A Quiet Place — Part II” on Memorial Day weekend.
Leading the way is “F9” with a $24 million 3-day/$32.7 million 4-day total, which would give it $126 million through two weekends. The “Fast & Furious” installment set a new post-pandemic record by hitting $100 million domestically, and on Monday it is set to become the first Hollywood...

After two sequels, and a prequel (The First Purge), in roughly two-year intervals, as well as a since-canceled, two-season cable series (2017-2019), The Purge franchise wraps up, at least until the rights holders decide audiences want more of the same (except different), with the fifth and final entry, The Forever Purge. It's a semi-welcome return to the ultra-violent basics and crude, if effective, political commentary, which has made the franchise a decade-long hit with audiences and critics. Cathartic in series name and intent, the Purge series has echoed timely issues, more often than not reflecting prescient concerns, funhouse mirror-style, about our fragile, crumbling political, social, and cultural institutions. Universal’s “The Forever Purge,” the fifth and final movie in “The Purge” horror franchise, and the animated family sequel “The Boss Baby: Family Business,” each made $1.3 million at Thursday preview screenings ahead of the 4th of July weekend.
Both films figure to perform strongly over the long weekend in theaters, and with “F9” still going strongly, there’s a chance Universal can take the top 3 spots at the box office. “F9” earned $4.9 million on Thursday and is expected to finish its second weekend in theaters at No. 1.
“The Forever Purge” made $1.33 million from 2,550 theaters with showings that began at 7 p.m., and it opens on 3,051 screens this weekend. And “Boss Baby” made $1.31 million with preview screenings that began at 4:00 p.m. across 2,700 screens. It opens wide on 3,640 North American theaters, but it also opens in a hybrid release on NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock.

There aren’t many modern horror movies that have had the impact of “The Purge,” which revolve around an idea so disturbing and insidious it feels like it’s been around forever. (Or at least since the 1967 “Star Trek” episode “The Return of the Archons.”)
“The Purge” takes place in a near future where an extreme conservative fringe party has taken over the American government, instituting a new national holiday where all crime is legal for 12 hours. Although the rationale for “Purge Night” is ostensibly to vent society’s hostilities to make the rest of the year more peaceful, in actuality it’s a grotesque attempt to convince Americans to partake of self-inflicted genocide, curtailing the population and empowering white supremacists.
The best films in “The Purge” franchise find a healthy balance of terrifying action and refreshingly direct moral parable. The worst are nonetheless intriguing explorations of social collapse amidst literal class warfare.

The “Purge” movies started off, in 2013 (we’re nearing a decade of high-spirited fun!), as a dystopian gonzo action fantasy set in a metropolis gone mad. The series always had a pop political dimension, most of it related to the New Founding Fathers of America, the ominous ruling party that institutes the Purge as a way to let off steam — but, really, as a way to control the masses, who have one night a year in which they can commit any crime, even murder, without legal ramifications. The fact that the Purgers aren’t allowed to touch any Nffa member is the tipoff that this controlled night of anarchy is really the ultimate vicious exercise in rats-in-a-maze obedience. The “Purge” films began as a kinky “Clockwork Orange” knockoff, a teasing comic-book vision of the new angry America’s sociopathic heart. But as the series has gone on, it’s become more explicitly “political,...

Movies typically take several years to get in front of an audience, from the screenwriter first putting words on the page to the finished film unspooling in a dark theater. So there’s always a weird double-take when a movie like The Forever Purge comes out and it seems to eerily capture or mirror events unfolding in real-life as they’re happening.
Such has been the case with the series of movies collectively known as The Purge, which in many ways have never outgrown their original recipe as a hard, violent shell of low-budget action/horror wrapped around a viscous, somewhat self-contradictory center of socially conscious speculative fiction.
Yet whatever flaws one may find in the now five films in the series, the vision behind the narrative—primarily that of creator James DeMonaco, who has written all five pictures and directed three of them—has remained remarkably consistent, often frightening,...

Marvel projects may be drawing a slew of high-profile actors to Australia, but it seems there are also local productions inversely capable of attracting MCU talent.
Christopher James Baker has been back in his native country for the past year following more than a decade in New York, during which he starred in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and also shot the upcoming DC Universe Series, Stargirl.
He has been able to hit the ground running following his return, with roles in Stan’s eight-part mystery drama Eden, as well as Goalpost’s gold rush drama New Gold Mountain.
Baker will first be seen in the former, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform on June 11.
The Every Cloud Productions/Balloon Entertainment series centres on the disappearance of a young woman and a subsequent chain of events that serves to lay bare dark and hidden secrets within the titular coastal town.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for “The Forever Purge,” the fifth and final installment in the blockbuster horror franchise. The dystopian horror saga began in 2013 with “The Purge,” which starred Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey as a wealthy family who find themselves hunted during the annual Purge, the one night in which all crime, including murder, is temporarily legal. The franchise was created by James DeMonaco, who wrote the screenplays for all five films and directed the first three.
A direct sequel to 2016’s “The Purge: Election Year,” “The Forever Purge” follows a Mexican couple on the run from a drug cartel who become stranded on a Texas ranch. Though the presidential elections eliminated the Purge, the couple find themselves hunted by a group of outsiders who plan to continue the tradition despite it being outlawed. Netflix provides a great platform for rediscovering older and maybe forgotten movies, whether they be horror films, comedies, or anything else for that matter. With the Halloween season well and truly upon us now, there are plenty of scary pictures in the Top 10 for the streamer, including 2014’s The Purge: Anarchy, which is currently sitting as the sixth most-watched movie on the global charts. Why, then, might this sequel be doing so well?
Perhaps the most obvious answer is the simplest: horror and thriller titles get a lot more love in October, and The Purge is a popular brand that rewards those looking for a quick and easy fix. The James DeMonaco-directed Anarchy is a follow-up to the franchise-spawning 2013 hit, which sees an annual event legalize crimes to maintain social balance in a totalitarian future America (albeit one that’s looking more plausible with each passing year).

Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo have boarded Joe Carnahan’s police drama “Copshop,” with filming set to start in Georgia and New Mexico in October.
“Copshop” will be set at a small-town police station that becomes the unlikely battleground between Butler’s professional hitman, a smart rookie female cop and a double-crossing con man played by Grillo, who seeks refuge behind bars with no place left to run.
Kurt McLeod wrote the original screenplay based on a story he created with Mark Williams. Carnahan penned the most recent draft. The Republican National Convention is underway, where the nation’s freakiest ghouls gather to make bizarre speeches and plot the future destruction of the planet. We’re halfway through and things have already gotten seriously odd, with the cherry on top being Kimberly Guilfoyle’s surreal screaming speech delivered to a largely empty room. It seems that this was too out-there even for Trump’s campaign, with his advisors describing it as “strange” and “weird.”
Further eyebrows were raised by an appearance by Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the gun-toting couple who made news as they threatened protesters walking past their home. They claimed that the Democrats want to “abolish the suburbs” and would bring “crime and lawlessness” to our streets. Strong words from a couple who are facing felony charges for unlawful use of a weapon.

To the surprise of nobody, The Purge will return for a fifth installment.
The film, officially titled The Forever Purge, will reunite many of The Purge‘s principal behind the scenes players. That includes the key producers of Blumhouse Productions as well as franchise creator James DeMonaco. Unfortunately, no further details have been given at this time regarding the film’s plot or setting.
Ironically enough, The Forever Purge was temporarily the victim of another kind of purge, this one caused by studio delays amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in the film being shelved indefinitely back in May. However, a lot has changed since then, and the fifth film in the franchise now has a release date… just one that’s a full year after its previous July 2020 window.
The Purge 5 Release Date
The Forever Purge is now scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2021.
