Ringing Korea’S Grand Bell
“Concrete Utopia,” South Korea’s Oscar contender, was Wednesday named best film at the country’s annual Grand Bell Awards. It also won prizes for best actor, best supporting actress, art direction, sound mixing and visual effects. A disaster movie set in a devastated Seoul, it makes an unusual Academy Awards selection, but has gained high praise from reviewers. Variety this week said the film felt like “’Earthquake’ crossed with ‘Lord of the Flies’.”
The Grand Bell’s best director award nevertheless went to Ryoo Seung-wan for “Smugglers,” while Ahn Tae-jin took the best new director award for “The Night Owl.”
In the other half of the event, Disney+’s “Moving” was named best series, earning Han Hyo-joo the best series actress award to boot.
The Grand Bell Awards, aka Daejong Film Awards, are organized by The Motion Pictures Association of Korea.

The Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark episode of Wtf Happened to This Adaptation? was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here is the text of Hatfield’s script:
Campfire tales. Town legends. Ghost stories. Whatever you want to call them, they exist as a way to tell stories from one generation to the next. They can be told at summer camp, at sleepovers, or by grandpa when he’s had an extra J & B and is feeling squirrely. They can be urban legends, embellished stories based in fact, or even just a made-up tale to illicit fright from its listeners. For certain generations, the stories of Alvin Schwartz accompanied by the illustrations of Stephen Gammel have terrified kids who stumbled upon them at the Scholastic book fair and given adults Ptsd...

A new trailer for the sequel to The Meg has been revealed, and somehow they’ve managed to add a T-Rex to this franchise.
“It was the summer of 2018. A movie starring Jason Statham and a giant shark hit theaters and those who saw it generally enjoyed it. That film, The Meg, went on to gross over $500 million worldwide, if you can believe it, and work soon began on a sequel. That sequel is coming to theaters in August and now has its first trailer.”

Justin Theroux has been shown to have a good sense of humor about many aspects of his persona, and in the latest tribute, it’s his interior decorating that’s targeted.
Comedy Central’s showbiz satire “The Other Two” takes on pop culture and the concept of fame in a biting yet affectionate way. Look no further than its treatment of “The Leftovers” star Justin Theroux, or as one character identifies him: “Lego Ninjago.” Although the actor doesn’t appear in the series, a version of his apartment does.
In the series, adult siblings Cary and Brooke Dubek are struggling with their careers when their 13-year-old brother Chase Dreams (Case Walker) becomes a viral singing sensation overnight and begins a media tour to capitalize on his fame. Their mother Pat (Molly Shannon) goes along for the ride, and they end up bunking at Theroux’s New York apartment since Chase...

A new “Star Trek” animated series from “Lego Ninjago” writers Kevin and Dan Hageman has been ordered to series at Nickelodeon.
The CG-animated project, which hails from CBS Television Studios, “follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation.”
Even though the series is being overseen by “Star Trek” boss Alex Kurtzman, this will be the first of these new “Star Trek” TV projects not intended for CBS All Access. The new cartoon series, targeted towards younger audiences, will be a major tentpole series for Nickelodeon, a person with knowledge of the project told TheWrap back in February.
Here is CBS TV Studios’ current “Star Trek” lineup, which, again, is fully housed on CBS All-Access: “Star Trek: Discovery”; “Star Trek: Short Trek,” a series of short stories tied to “Discovery”; the untitled series featuring Patrick Stewart reprising...
