I found this to be a breath of fresh air. I can't wait for the next season to start. This series keeps me constantly anticipating as to seeing the next show. YES, I love the story line and the characters, however I did not care for the queens baby being born black. I was hoping it would be a boy to be an heir to the throne. This comment was not posted out of prejudice but out the happiness a boy would have brought to the king, who is very attractive as well as his brother and his lover too. Oh, my roommate loves all lovers activities in the the show too, so do I. I hope the brother has a baby with his wife, preferably a boy. making the king jealous or not knowing who is the father of a baby "boy". I correct myself, this has happened when the king brother's wife reveals she is pregnant. Now I wonder how they will be able to tell who is in fact the baby's father?

Versailles 1.1
Prismark102 June 2016
Episode one starts with a sequence involving a young man and a young woman running in slow motion along a hall of mirrors. They then take their clothes off and have sex. It is a dream.
Versailles is about Louis XIV, an absolute monarch and how he sets building his dream palace. All the time there are plots against him from noblemen and foreigners, he needs to maximise tax revenues and find time to have much sex as possible.
Then again the current Queen is pregnant and not exactly keeping Louis satisfied. She does deliver a surprise ending.
This hedonistic drama did not go for quiet contemplation of Wolf Hall the BBC series about the Tudor court. It takes its cue from Games of Thrones. There is intrigue and lots of nudity, sex and violence. One conspirator gets hammered literally. A cross dressing prince is giving fellatio to another man. The show is setting out its stall. This is French art, sumptuous and sensual but also equally dull.
The main problem with the first episode was that too many actors looked the same, you were wondering just who was who.
