Not a review, just a warning
dna-11386 December 2015
Another cheap ass TV movie with terrible actors and terrible everything else. Not strictly a review, as I feel I'm doing enough to warn everyone straight out the gate. As for the only other guy who reviewed this movie, add him to the blacklist. Most of the films he's seen are rated 10 out of ten, and that includes "Lavalantula". It's sad because the rating system on IMDb used to be good, (and does still work, with the right reviewers) but recently the fake profiles and reviews have been getting way too obvious. I hope they realise their names and affiliations can be traced, as I've seen reviews from people on here that have actually been tied down to directors, actors, and other frauds. I just hope everyone is together enough to spot these reviews a mile away.

Earthfall never reaches great enough height to fall from
quincytheodore15 December 2015
For a movie with such grandeur title, Earthfall is more like a local neighborhood watch or mall cops running around in random field. It has incredibly poor acting, silly attempt to create drama and expected low quality effect. This is actually one of the worst films that seem far longer than it is, I could've sworn that it had been going for two or three hours.

Story is unsurprisingly mundane, there's a planet out of orbit or the sort. The science is explained over zealously and barely makes sense even for B-movie standard. The other main plot is the two leads, both of whom trying to channel Matthew McConaughey, one from his romance comedy days and one from new serious roles. Needless to say, mentioning Matthew McConaughey is already an undeserving praise for them.

At least in other similar movies, both quality and genre, there are signs of catastrophe, such as a small town in panic or a bunch of people stuck in traffic. This movie almost exclusively transpires in deserted field with people trying to pass off as scientist or military. Furthermore, its attempt to vilify authority just seems timid and merely serves as padding while the supposed survivors are like random extras from The Walking Dead arguing with each other.

Earthfall is not even good for lazy popcorn flick.

One of the few films I couldn't even complete I'm afraid
MikepUK11 December 2015
I managed to sit through around 20 minutes of this film before the appalling script, rather poor acting and unimpressive special effects proved too much for me.

Some of the early dialogue was abysmal and totally unconvincing which made the characters saying it also unconvincing. I couldn't find one central character with whom I could invest or relate too - a fatal flaw in any movie of this type.

I watch a lot of films covering many genres and like sci-fi especially but after being spoilt by TV series like Falling Skies and Defiance - to mention two examples - the mediocrity of this offering was highlighted even more.

I almost never give up on a film but in this case I really didn't care what happened as I have better things to do with my life.

I'm sure others may enjoy it - but not me.

Terrible movie, no idea how this got so much advertisement
airfaith7 December 2015
sorry but it was just terrible, the acting was some of the worst I've seen in a long time, i read the first review giving it a 10/10 which was quite obviously written by someone who worked on the movie, easily identified by the 9 out of 90 people found that review helpful, that other 81 people knew what was going down i noticed it was one of the most downloaded movies online so read up on it, despite the reviews said id see for myself but wow, i can only blame myself but wish i could get that time of my life back to waste on a real actual movie instead, it pretends to be something new yet its not it pretends it has a point to it but it doesn't its just a long drawn out waste of film, don't bother.

OMG! And not in a good way....
toumasrahl27 December 2015
Sorry but I can't keep quiet about this one. It's just god awful. Everything about it is terrible. The acting is probably the best part and after about 30 seconds you realize that it sucks. Even the actors seem to know that the story is terrible, they show no interest in their parts and obviously just want to get paid and leave. The writer has no concept of physics or anything to do with science for that matter. The special effects are cringeworthy. Sure it's a low budget film but that is no excuse, there are some really good low budged movies and this is definitely not one of them. Whomever gave it a 10 out of 10.... well I'm glad you liked it... I didn't.

Where's the sick bag
plutus194716 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I only have four things to say about this movie Terrible acting, terrible script, terrible direction.

Finally number four if this movie cost more than $5.00 (£3.50) to make the audience who went to see it wuz robbed.

I lied. I do have something else to say.

SPOILDR BEGINS

The movie is about a comet the size of a pea pulling the Earth out of its orbit and dragging the Earth into who knows where and of course it is up to an ensemble of no hopers to save the world and the human race.

SPOILER ENDS

Heard this plot before? I know you have and I bet the other movies with this type of plot were ten time better.

My only advice to your all is to forget it.

One final thing, dear IMDb please allows us to rate a movie zero because lets face it some movies are not worth even a one.

"Chocolate Chip Cookies attack the Earth"
rbrb25 March 2017
My summary heading is how my friend described this picture; spent a few dollars buying it on DVD and that is about how much it looks that the makers of this awful flick spent to make it.

This is one of the worst and most laughable movies currently on sale.

Luckily the disc went awry before the ending...

The director is unaware of basic physics
hateredblast4 December 2015
Did you know that asteroid shards plummet towards the earth at a constant velocity of 15km/h? Did you know that dust from a small impact can kill you for no apparent reason? Did you know that hackers like giving away random vital information? Well... NOW YOU DO!

This movie is just a waste of resources! I wasn't expecting much anyway, but damn... thats so weak! The actors are OK, the script is garbage, the excitement is none! The effects are cheap, unrealistic and lack basic understanding of physics! Even the props are mediocre! The movie should not exist!

Quality fail
TheLittleSongbird11 February 2019
Will very, very quickly repeat what was said for the equally awful 'Destruction: Los Angeles', as what is about to be said applies for 'Earthfall' too. Just in case anybody wonders or is wondering, there is no personal bias against low-budget films. There never has been regardless of what people might think reading past reviews that have seen me be quite critical. There are good ones out there. Nor is there bias against disaster films, again there are some good ones, despite what has been said about some in the past.

Even when taking it for what it is and what it tried to be, 'Earthfall' just does not work on any level. Not even for novelty value, because one is left feeling bored and insultingly frustrated to be getting any unintentional entertainment. Had absolutely no problem with it being made on a low budget with hasty time constraints and was expecting the production values to not be great as such, there has never been the mentality of if a film is low budget it is immediately bad. Not the case at all. It is when it looks and feels like those involved didn't try and that no effort, care or enthusiasm went into any of the components when it bothers me. That's how it felt watching 'Earthfall'. When a film is low budget and done in a short space of time, yet either may lack a little visually but comes off surprisingly well in most other areas or works on most levels and still also looks good (and there are numerous examples of both), it is proof to me that a film's budget shouldn't be an excuse for how the film overall turns out.

Taking the budget into account and knowing full well not to expect high art as it is not the type of film, 'Earthfall' is an example of a film that is so cheaply made you seriously question why they even tried. The editing is choppy and blurry, to the point of inducing nausea, and the special effects have a very fake and unfinished feel and would be more at home in a low-budget movie from twenty years ago. The scenery is too compact and there is a constant dreariness and lack of focus in the photography. Anybody fussy about continuity will have a field day spotting all the errors, 'Earthfall' is loaded with them. The music is intrusive and at odds with the mood and action with no exceptions.

Direction shows no style or urgency, and a lack of control is obvious frequently too. The story is a major failing, there is no fun, tension, suspense or excitement, just non-stop dumbness, predictability and erratic pacing (both rushed and run of the mill that the film feels very blandly generic, lifeless and far-fetched). The disaster sequences are nauseatingly edited and have no thrills or suspense whatsoever where one never feels the extent of the damage, one is too busy being distracted by the bogus improvisatory-feeling science, dire at best effects, idiotic events and character behaviours as well as hitting their heads on walls in annoyance to get anything out of them.

Furthermore, the script constantly feels awkward and almost as if the writers had little to no idea of how to make a film script make any kind of sense, give it any kind of flow, any kind of momentum or the ability to treat the audience with respect, so overboard the cheesiness gets. The characters have no development to them and infuriate in how stupidly and obnoxiously, with no logic in sight, they behave throughout. The acting is a mess of phoned in and over compensated with no exception, citing who gives the worst performance of the lot is hard as they are all as terrible as each other.

Overall, another disaster. 1/10 Bethany Cox

B Grade wannabe!
andrew-25416 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
With anticipation high after reading the plot summary - A rogue planet roars through our solar system. It acts as an intergalactic magnet that pulls Earth in its wake..... Sounds good? Well I had high hopes of a fun B Grade classic.

To the directors / writers credit they did use every cliché available and the effects were as expected for a low budget production. The acting could have been better but there is potential for Denyse Tontz who was the best of the group and did have some credibility.

The plot moves along and the story keeps you engaged enough as tension builds for the climatic finale.

Then BOOM it's over. No idea if the solution that the world agreed upon worked or what.... just the end. This was the reason I didn't give it a 5/10.

Where's the end of this movie?
elrelr5 December 2016
REALLY GOOD START, BUT WHERE'S THE ENDING??? Good plot to start, good actors, good acting. Problem is, at the end of the movie I felt as though I'd seen the first quarter of the show and had been cheated out of seeing the last 3 quarters of it. WHY would they take a viewer through all that turmoil just to end it flat at the moment the planet (and it's occupants) were going to start the REAL adventure - creating a new world out of the ruins of the old one. I just CAN NOT understand why they stopped only 1 quarter of the way in. There doesn't seem to be a follow-up movie or a series coming off it. This movie could have continued with so many additional plots; the military setting up a base and people living there, while people who had survived without the military set up small communities all over the globe (working their way out from the area that people were still alive in). It wouldn't have to be every community fighting every other community, either. Why not every community working to help each other and reinstate commerce with each other. There could be a farming community trading goods with a mining community and a crafting community trading goods with both of those, and on and on. Runners as mail carriers. Traveling tutors for the kids, traveling medical units from the medical community, kids sent to craftsmen, hospitals, farms, libraries, etc., to live in their teen years in order to learn a trade (since the colleges would probably no longer be viable, right?) and on and on. Sooooo much more could have come from this movie than just another "shoot-em- up-bang-bang" debacle.

Can be difficult to watch as a serious film
dave-7042111 January 2017
Not to sure this should be called a sci-fi film as such, maybe more a small budget disaster film than anything.

Certainly nothing great to say about this TV film except acting was acceptable. But feels more like a generic cheaply made Hallmark Channel drama film to fill 90 minutes on a Sunday afternoon than anything.

The given situation that the planet turning on its axis so much and spinning out of orbit and yet parts of the planet pretty much unaffected (barring meteors and weather storms) is highly unrealistic and lacks any scientific basis to the given situation to make enjoying this film really possible. So it makes difficult to accept that there is any believable aspect to this story in any form. Which then begs the question as to the type of audience the film sees its target audience demographics?.

I'm guessing this could be seen more as showcase film for actors and budding CGI artists seeing as there was some reasonable efforts on the CGI front.

Everybody Is Going To Die... Where's My Family?
P3n-E-W1s317 December 2019
TheSTORY-0.5

Unfortunately, it's the story that carries a film. Even if the story is fantastical, such as this, it needs to have a semblance of reality to make it believable in the viewers' eyes. This, I am sad to say, doesn't.

The writers, Neil Elman and Colin Reese do have a good idea. Stopping the world from turning and pulled out of its rotation around the sun. However, from here on in its by-the-book disaster movie fodder. A family apart have to fight to get back to one another. Stereotypical characters and events. Even the military is stereotyped as the bad guys of the piece.

This is a shame as the story could have been so much better if Elman and Reese had used their imagination a bit more and had done a little more investigation into their phenomena.

theDIRECTION-1

At least Steven Daniels does a better job with the direction. Though it's not too brilliant it is watchable. Even the special effects, at times, are decent... though there are some dire ones thrown in as well (when the budget was running out).

theTEMPO-1

It's good that Daniels uses a couple of different speeds in the film as it keeps the audience from being too bored or thinking too much about the silly storyline. For the main part of the movie, we move along at a steady trot and when the action picks up we shift to a steady gallop. The word here though is steady. There is a definite feeling of averageness and of "seeing it all before" about this film. That, though, is understandable if, like me, you enjoy a good disaster.

theACTING-1

Unfortunately, due to the characters being a little stale the actors don't have much to work worth. They do, however, try their best with their portrayals and, largely, come across well. In fact, their portrayals help to lift this story out of the quagmire a tad.

theGRATIFICATION-0.75

Even though the direction and acting lift the film up the story drags it back down to below average. I enjoyed some of the special effects and a couple of humorous scenes. But I cannot find it in my heart to recommend this movie to anyone. There are a lot more disasters out there that are more enjoyable than this.

theSCORE-4.25

Come on over to my Disastrous and The Final Frontier lists and see where this turkey sits on my chart of disaster films. You should, at least, find a better one to watch.

Do not spend your time on this
kakhao29 December 2015
Some can issue good movie even with small budget but these guys achieved succeeded in making expensive junk. Do not make mistake, don't waste time on this movie! Whole scenario seems like written by 5 year kid, even my children understand that to move earth, object should quite massive and would be noticed several years earlier. Another stupid thing is earth angle change, this almost impossible without apocalyptic impact, magnetic field wouldn't survive after that (so this means end of life due to radiation and atmosphere lose). And finally do you know what is geostationary orbit? oops, that is used by GPS satellites, so how they navigate via GPS? :)))

Just another run-of-the-mill disaster movie that puts Earth at risk of annihilation...
paul_haakonsen9 June 2018
Well I had expected something much, much worse than what "Earthfall" actually turned out to be.

Sure, this was a very generic and predictable disaster movie, but then again so are 90% of the movies in this particular genre. Yet we still watch them for some odd reason. For me it is on the offbeat chance that the movie actually is outstandingly entertaining; which most of them aren't, sadly enough.

The story here is about the Earth being pulled out of its orbit and sent hurling into space. Right, very simple, very generic, isn't it? There were heaps of flaws in the movie, of course. And while I am not a man of science or anything, but if the Earth is sent out of its orbit wouldn't that heavily influence the atmosphere gravity and the polar points?

I loved how the freezing storm claimed a man's life in less than mere seconds by freezing him solid, yet the female protagonist escaped that fate by merely pulling a blanket up to her chest! Yeah, that was plausible.

The special effects and CGI in the movie were actually adequate for a movie of this caliber, so thumbs up there.

Have to start with an apt quote from the movie. This movie is so absolutely terrible that it is worth a watch to enjoy how bad it is.

If you think the end of the world is going to result in people having non-stop stupid arguments with each other, then this is the movie for you!

This movie is so awful, it should be deemed a crime against humanity. Seriously, If I had an option to

A: Watch this movie or B: Sprinkle weaponized anthrax on my pancakes,

I'd be in a rush to griddle up my pancakes. The movie plot is so stupid, it's insulting.

Normally I can find something good about a movie, but I can't with this one. This movie was terrible. I can not fine one redeeming quality in this movie. Bad acting across the board. Mediocre sets. Poor direction. The ending was senseless. No entertainment value at all. Thank goodness there is a fast forward or I would have been forced to watch every agonizing minuet. I could go on and on.

The Universe just handed us a **** sandwich
welsh_dragon_roar4 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
So I just sat there for ten minutes in silence after watching this, exhausted, emotionally drained & completely stunned at what is one of the best titles I've seen this year. Forget your superhero films with billion dollar budgets and so-called 'A-list' actors; this motion picture gets you in the feels and really puts you at the heart of the action.

The Earth is under threat from a cosmic calamity, and an honest Dad is separated from his family when disaster strikes. We follow his perilous journey (along with a well-realised wise-cracking sidekick) across the now dangerous post-apocalyptic wastelands of the US of A. Combined with the danger that his innocent yet feisty teenage daughter finds herself in (a great role model for all young women, spitting in the face of the gender-defined stereotypes peddled by the Hollywood Patriarchy movie-mill) and his inspirational strong-willed wife, who herself is caught up in the shadows of a sinister government conspiracy.

I was hovering on the edge of my chair throughout the film, and literally jumped out of my skin with some of the special effects and explosions. Michael Bay take note - you don't need explosions every ten seconds, just when it's necessary. Watch this and learn.

In a nutshell, watch this film. 10/10.

quick edit - I see that some reviews are suggesting I am somehow affiliated with the production of this film. I am not. Furthermore, I rate films how I see them, and I happen to like a broad range of productions. As a member of this website for over 7 years, I am completely independent and honest about how I view and rate films.

It was a mighty struggle but the cast lost.
hacdc-4659329 August 2023
It was a mighty struggle by the actors against an awful script, but in the end the script, unfortunately, won.

The cast included all the cliched characters -- the dofuss boyfriends, the dumb blond, the slightly less dumb blond, the smart, the bossy professional woman, the handyman, the evil back woods, gun toting hicks, and lots of military with very few lines. All the female actors get their chance to demonstrate their emotional range in some scene where they get hysterical, scream, and cry.

The main character is a writer, no doubt the alter-ego for whoever wrote the script. A shame, since the script is what made this movie tedious and dumb. Could have really used some technical assistance from somebody who knew some physics.

Photography and special effects were adequate to not be a distraction from the plot, had there been a good plot.

I hate it when everybody does their job except one. This cast and crew could have made something watchable. I suppose it is possible that they had a better script going in and lost the best parts due to budget or in the cutting room, but it seems unlikely.

A big nothing
agore325 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I accept the concept but the result was not revealed. It follows other post disaster movie plots where a family tries to reunite, find something. or get somewhere. This had all.

It was not the science that seemed flawed but the believability that there were so few people around. Then we had ending where they had to escape ground zero but just a few miles away it was safe. The movie then abruptly ends without anything...did the Earth stop moving away from the sun, did it alter the tilt axis, etc. It was like part 1 of a 2 part mini-series.
