Edith Cavell, whose court-martial and execution for treason by the Germans was mentioned during the episode and who was quoted at the end of the episode, was a British nurse. She is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides without discrimination and in helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during WWI. Her heroism and death became propaganda for military recruitment in Britain and to help increase favorable sentiment towards the Allies in the United States.
