Not everyone can be a winner, not even in terms of contemporary Austrian film

"Bad Fûcking" (yes I have to use the ^ here because IMDb won't allow me to use the title otherwise) is an Austrian German-language movie from 2013, so this one will have its 5th anniversary next year. The writer and director is Harald Sicheritz, one of Austria's most influential of the last couple decades. The cast includes a handful of names here that people with an interest in Austrian (maybe German) film will recognize, like Dorfer, Böck or Silberschneider. However, there aren't any really big names, but it's okay. I don't think the cast is a problem here. I think Austria is on a really high level right now when it comes to combining drama with comedy in films these days, especially crime with comedy as well. Buit this film is one exception where it is not really working out, maybe because it is really all about the comedy here and honestly the material doesn't feel good enough for 105 minutes. Or maybe Sicheritz is already past peak by now.

Ultimately, I found almost nothing memorable about this film. Apart from Maddalena Hirschal's really beautiful looks of course. What a stunner she is and her acting was okay as well. Sadly I cannot say I was equally convinced by all the other actors and actresses in here, especially Natascha Berg who probably has the most screen time in here. It also has a bit to do with the writing I guess. Of course, you should not expect seriousness and depth in here, but the way this film goes over the top on more than just a few occasions makes it look quite a bit gimmicky all the time. The attempts Sicheritz made to keep it in people's minds almost never worked out. The frequent use of music wasn't as good as I hoped it would be either. I can only hope that Sicheritzh steps things up for his future projects again. This one here gets a thumbs-down from me. Not recommended and the title is certainly better than the film, which is pretty telling actually. Or not telling at all? It's for you to decide. But better skip it.
