Popular Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra has two projects based on real-life stories in the works.
“Chamkila” is a biopic on Punjabi singer-songwriter pop star duo Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, who shot to fame in the 1980s recording and performing songs that were social commentaries or devotionals, and which became massive hits. The duo was gunned down in Mehsampur village, Punjab, in 1988. Their assassination remains an unsolved mystery and was the subject of Kabir Singh Chowdhry’s 2018 mockumentary “Mehsampur.”
“Chamkila,” produced by Reliance Entertainment, is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, known for “Jab We Met” (2007), “Love Aaj Kal” (2009), “Rockstar” (2011) and “Highway” (2014). Pop star and actor Diljit Dosjanh (Netflix original film “Jogi”) plays Chamkila while Chopra plays Kaur.
“Diljit and I are going to be singing throughout the film. We’re doing like 12-15 songs because it’s a film on music. We’re doing live recordings on set.

Sometimes a debutant director shows a spark that never quite lights up the screen. God knows, Akshay Roy displays a keen eye for Kolkata’s eccentricities: the trams and the fast-food lanes, the Durga idol silhouetting the hero’s suicide attempt, the loud boisterous parents of the Bengali protagonist Abhi….so called, so that the theme song of his love story could be ‘Abhi na jao chod kar ke dil abhi bhara nahin.’
Abhi….get it?
There is a lot to ‘get’ in Meri Pyari Bindu including its corny cross references to films about unrequited love like Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Nikhil Advani’s Katti Batti. Then there us film’s Padosan-inspired title. The film’s most embarrassing sequence has Abhi’s parents enacting the Kishore Kumar song in a car park.

Ludo, arguably India’s first legitimate gore horror fable film, had its Indian premiere at Mami 2015, as the opening film for the new After Dark section.

“It’s more of a rewrite than a remake actually. The idea of Ludo is fluid, and, like most horror ideas, is perfect for a franchise. The new Ludo will be a completely different film, based on the same premise. This time, the horror will unfold in curiously unusual ways,” said Q.
Vikramaditya Motwane added, “We’re delighted to announce a hindi version of Ludo. Q is one of the most exciting directors in the country and we couldn’t be happier about our partnership.

That moment when Madhuri and Shah Rukh are in adjoining changing rooms in a clothing store, and Madhuri hears him whistle a tune. She later hears it again and knows it was meant to be!

The celebrated filmmaker and cartoonist Walt Disney once said, “Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.” Whatever background or class you belong to, we all love to relish in a Bollywood film now and again. It transports us in to a world we wish we were a part of, as well as exposing us to characters who we can relate to. So has 2014 been a good year for Bollywood? Well let’s just say there were a minority of good films that form part of a pile of disappointments. It’s not been an amazing year for the Hindi film industry, yet we feel that the films which have lived up to our expectations deserve its due recognition. So without further ado, here are the films that have made the final cut!

Directors, they are the driving force behind the movies. They take the words on the page and bring them to life on screen. They guide the actors, they work with the crew, they create the shots, they create the sound and the songs with the music directors and so much more. Every year there are some directors whose work truly stands out and we like to shine the spotlight on them. So, it’s not strictly a top ten and we have not put them in numerical order as such. Plus there are a few surprise horses, but here are the directors the BollySpice team thought shone through brightest in 2014 and a few personal reasons for why – enjoy!
Hansal Mehta (Citylights)
It was a remake of 2013’s Metro Manila, but relocated to Mumbai. It tells the timeless tale of a village worker migrating to the big city and the struggles which that bring.

As reflections of Indian cinema in 2014 do their rounds, there are some very common conclusions everyone has come to that are undeniable. And that it was not the greatest year for actors but quite a year full of feats for our ladies. Indian cinema has come a long way in terms of credible roles and films for our leading ladies. Whilst we are still flooded with the kind of cinema that provide the leading actress with nothing more than a page of dialogues (if that) and 4 songs, we do get the occasional Sridevi in English Vinglish or a Vidya Balan in Kahaani. 2014 gave us more of these rare moments than we bargained for. No doubt we are still hungry for more from our ladies, however we choose to not stop and lament about what we lack but instead reflect on the brilliant year the ladies of Indian cinema have had.

Although this year’s most memorable performances were delivered by women, there are many actors that deserve being recognised for the good job they’ve done in the year 2014. Here is BollySpice’s list of the top 10 actors who wowed us with their performances!
10. Varun Dawan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Main Tera Hero)

He had us wishing for more of David Dhawan’s style of cinema with Main Tera Hero when he fully immersed himself in the loud comedy genre with great ease. 2015 looks promising for the Varun, as he is busy with two interesting and different productions, the action film Badlapur,...

For the music of the films of 2014, the composers brought in classic voices, new vocal sounds and vibes and even an actress or two to bring their songs to life. Usually we limit our list to the 5 Best Female Singers but this year we had to expand to 10 in order to highlight their fabulous performances.
10. Shraddha Kapoor
For the first time an actress makes it to our Best Female Singers countdown. Shraddha not only shined in two completely different roles in Ek Villain and Haider, the young actress also showed off her lovely voice with two completely different tunes. With ‘Galliyan’ from Ek Villain, she impressed with her melodious tones. The best situation for a movie buff is not expecting the sweet surprise of a delectable film. Being able to sink their teeth in and enjoy a film that had no major expectation and even maybe a negative viewpoint to begin with. These are the films that silently crept into our hearts and are now there to stay. They’re films that we didn’t expect to impress us to the extent that they did. BollySpice gives you the Top 5 Surprises of 2014.

Dharma Productions had a busy 2014 with a romance hat trick in the first half of the year – Hasee Toh Phasee with Phantom Production, 2 States with Nadiadwala Grandsons & Utv, and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in July. With its last release Ungli, Dharma has become a production house with probably the widest range of film varieties this year.
All the films had something unique about them – right from a romedy with a fresh storyline, to a bestseller adaptation, to a tribute to legendary Bollywood love stories. Whereas, Ungli was film from a genre unknown to Dharma until now. This year, Dharma also became the launchpad for three more promising directors – Vinil Matthew (Hasee Toh Phasee), Abhishek Varman (2 States) and Shashank Khaitan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania). Ungli was Rensil D’silva’s second outing with Dharma.
With the audience accepting all these films with open arms, Dharma Productions is set for an exciting line-up in next two years.

Kill Dil has turned out to be a disappointment at the box office. It was expected that the film would take a decent start at least, considering the kind of names involved as well as the fact that the theatrical promo had made some impact. Moreover, it was a solo release of the week and didn’t have much of a competition from the past either. However, as it turned out, the film took a start around 30% and didn’t show much of a growth as the days progressed. Since the reviews and word of mouth too ranged from poor to average, the game was pretty much lost on Day One itself.
All of this meant that the Shaad Ali directed film just about managed to cross the 20 crore* mark over the weekend, which is not just way less than Gunday (which belonged to the same genre and accumulated around...

Kill Dil is Yash Raj Films’ latest offering starring Ranveer Singh (Ram-Leela), Ali Zafar (Tere Bin Laden), Parineeti Chopra (Hasee Toh Phasee) and Govinda (Raavn) in pivotal roles. The films bring together the winning combination of Shaad Ali, Shankar-Eshaan-Loy and Gulzar (Bunty Aur Babli and Jhoom Barabaar Jhoom). It features the vocal talents of Sunidhi Chauhan (‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ – Tees Maar Khan), Siddhartha Mahadevan (‘Malang’ – Dhoom 3), Sukwinder Singh (‘Bismil’ – Haider), Sonu Nigam (‘Abhi Mujhme Kahin’ – Agneepath) and Arjit Singh (‘Tum Hi Ho’ – Aashiqui 2) amongst others.
The title track opens with Gulzar introducing the film’s male protagonists with some well-written couplets. The track is a clever blend of Spaghetti Western and rock with some pretty decent yodeling from Shankar Mahadevan and Sonu Nigam. Nigam and Mahadevan demonstrate great camaraderie and the enthusiastic rendition makes the track worth your while.

The Sunset Club by Karan Tejpal & Tia Tejpal
Karan Tejpal
What is your project about? What language will the film be in?
The Sunset Club is adapted from one of Khushwant Singh’s last novels. It captures the election year of 2009 in India through the eyes of a 40 year old friendship between three octogenarians. An incredible commentary on independent India, the book beautifully captures the desires and despair of urban New Delhi. It is an intimate tale of daily meetings at the Lodhi Gardens, New Delhi; woven with arousing memories from the past of the three old men.
The film will be true to urban north India and hence in Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu.
At what stage of development is it?
The screenplay is raring to go from our side but we are looking forward to incorporating inputs from the Lab to take this project to fruition.
We are looking for Producers/Financing.

Bollywood starlet Alia Bhatt got the most important seal of approval to date when her father, the renowned film-maker Mahesh Bhatt, the man behind such cinematic hits as Murder, Jism and Raaz, gave the young actress his complete praise for her performance in the upcoming romantic-comedy film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
