I watched so many movies when I was a kid. I would stay up all night and catch 3 films in a row even though I didnt understand English or could read the subtitles. In high school there was a film class where we could make our own films. There I found a passion and an instinct for visuals that I had never realised I had. After getting kicked out of army school I randomly fell over a pamphlet for a 9 month film program, and 6 months later I got into both that film program and into one of the best business programs in Denmark my mum told me to follow my gut, and I did ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
GF came about when I lived in Perth for a year in 2012 with Daniel, GF producer and actor, researching a documentary about the internment about Italian migrants into camps here in Australia during WW2, and we were trying to get the money for the documentary, when Screenwest suddenly announced the 3 to 1 program initiative. We saw this opportunity and I developed the initial idea with Daniel that would eventually become GF. I think for me it was much about the feelings I was living with at that time, what I knew and felt a need to express the reveal of our true selves. Everybody wears masks, people live in fear of who and what they truly are and want to be, but are afraid of what everybody else will say. It was about movement in life, where we go, being an outsider and a reveal of our true selves. All of this which of course developed a lot since and took on a life of its own into different directions with everybody who later came on board the project. ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)

The captain of a ship and mother of the crew. Facilitator of talents in a game we all come together to play. Create a micro cosmos of life, a space where truths can reveal themselves. Youre the one who will have to bring it all together, the one with the supreme responsibility and the drive to finish it. ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
I suppose that is directors? Pekinpah, Noé, Cassavetes, Mann, Bergman and Greengrass. All in different ways in terms of story, visuals, energy, tone, style and methods. ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
Give yourself restrictions and work on that script. If the script is good you will save yourself so much trouble and basically 80% of your direction is done on the page. Then cast well and try not to get in peoples way. Nobody really cares about the shots at the end of the day when watching the film, they care about the story and the performances ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
Well I love the search for the truth in a moment when shooting. That magic thing that will suddenly occur when everything comes together or something goes unexpectedly wrong but out of it comes something different and better than I could have come up with. Much of Greenfield was such a search during the making of it ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
I made Greenfield mostly for myself just what I really wanted to see, but then always keeping the audience in mind of course. What experience did I want to give them? We came up with this funny idea of Greenfield as a Soap Opera in episodes wrapped up as a western. My Danish producer at one point called it an Aussie Western Slum Soap I think ha-ha ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
Grab a camera and go out and make your own films in your backyard. Learn by doing. Steal from others. Dont sit and wait for something to happen. Watch movies without sound, see the interviews online, read blogs, there is so much great learning online about film now that will teach you great tricks and techniques. Make your films about something personal to you. Make it about people who actively want something and make it hard for them to get it and give them urgency. That creates conflict, which is drama ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
Im currently attending the directing program at the American Film Institute, where Ive just finished my first year. I directed 3 shorts in about 8 months time. That was tough and very learning. Next year we spent all year doing one thesis short film. But before this I will go back to Denmark for the summer to have vacation and might shoot a short 3-5 min. film there for a Danish online web series project called The Current about current related topics in our society. I love the concept of that. Its their 3rd season and will air in October ~ Julius Telmer (Director of Greenfield)
