Can't believe the bad reviews here, you really watched it?

Warning: Spoilers
For anyone leaving bad reviews here, check 7:00-8:30 of this show, in the space station, mum talking to daughter in ipad- have you noticed the daughter looks different? One with two pony tails, the other not? The iPad is horizontal but next second it is vertical? The black man has the machine but the next second there is no machine? It is not a bug. It is a good scifi show really. I have watched E1 to E7 and look foward to the ending. Might be slow burn. Might be confusing because of multiverse but Worth studying, so many details. Even the paintings in the cabin have some background stories about Finland.

Try and fight past the stupid first 15 minutes
calhoun-owen23 February 2024
If you can get past the stupid choice the mother makes at the very beginning having seen that everything is ok, and the old iPhone alarm sound used as the International Space Station alarm - that's just lazy sound design (unless of course that really is what the ISS would be using, I think highly unlikely) - and various other silly little inconsistencies in just the first 15 minutes, then you might be able to find something in this.

Without trying to give anything away, I think there's elements of the 3rd Cloverfield movie they've ripped off here.

I had a very hard time with the writing for the little girl also. Interesting to see if the next episode annoys me as much.

Avoid like the plague

Warning: Spoilers
Very few movies or shows can handle complex science topics very well. But this seems to want to be a sci-fi horror of some kind. I can say it's no event horizon that's for sure which is my all time favorite sci-fi horror and Cloverfield is great. Anyways I think most people caught onto this stinker of a show already and like me thought it may be something worth while. It's not, I sat through 3 episodes and is it boring, boring, boring. The suspense is boring, the horror is boring, the characters are boring. I feel like the writer took pieces from different movies and tried to put something together with as little effort as possible. I'm done and out'

Cheese cliche family drama badly acted with sparse sprinkles of space stuff and three good actors.
mellowgeekstudio22 February 2024
Awful acting across the board with the exception of Jonathan Banks (legendary Mike from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul), Barbara Sukowa (legendary Doctor Katharina Jones from 12 Monkeys) and even James D´Arcy (Jarvis from Agent Carter, best part of that show). Those three (at least for the moment) make this show slightly bearable.

Also a huge disapointment to see Thinkpads being used in the ISS with awful barcode labels obviously covering their labels. Imagine seeing macbooks being used with huge barcode labels covering the Apple logo. RIdiculous.

Had to fast forward throuch the cheesy cliche family drama to get to the space parts which, unfortunately, pass by faster at normal speed than the family drama at double speed, which still are a slog to go through.

aaand I'm out
nerrdrage22 February 2024
Checked this out because I get AppleTV+ for now so why not. And they're usually so good at sci fi. Severance and For All Mankind are two of my favorite shows.

But I had an uh-oh feeling when they lead with a sequence that implies this is going to be handy-wavy fantasy horror and not actually sci fi at all.

Then we progress to the space-based part of the story, which has danger and action reminiscent of For All Mankind, without the attention to scientifically plausible detail. Just a lot of explosions and gore with people back at Mission Control wringing their hands.

Jonathan Banks is good, as always, but the rest of the cast doesn't really leave a distinctive impression. Not for me. Bye.

Episode 1

Warning: Spoilers
It looks like this show is going to be a balance of thriller and conspiracy drama and the scenes as an astronaut in space. I am fine with the blend, but the jumping around and the chaos and the heavy visuals, it all felt a little bit confusing.

I saw enough to stick with this show and see what happens next, but I think there have been some stronger Apple TV+ deals out there.

I admire the committment to the concept of being in space and all the technical jargon that sticks with it, but sometimes that happens at the expense of storytelling, and it feels as if that might be the case here. We shall see though.
