Legendary producer and director Roger Corman, who died recently at age 98, had an immeasurable impact on American cinema as we know it. The number of actors, writers, and directors who learned their craft on a Corman production is staggering, and he was known for giving people chances to prove themselves on the low-budget pictures he either produced or directed himself. Tons of notable names went through the so-called "Corman school," including James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich, Jonathan Demme, Ron Howard, and Joe Dante, just to name a few.
Three-time Oscar-winning actor Jack Nicholson is another significant alumnus of the Corman school of filmmaking — in fact, his very first movie, "The Cry Baby Killer," was a Corman production, and it provided Nicholson the first of many starring roles across his incredible career. The film follows a young man who thinks he's committed murder outside of a local hang-out restaurant,...

The San-Ti may not be arriving on Earth for another 400 years. But, thankfully, you don’t have to wait that long for more 3 Body Problem.
The mind-bending sci-fi drama from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones) and Alexander Woo will return for more all-new episodes on Netflix. The next episodes of 3 Body Problem will be created, executive produced, and written by the returning trio of Benioff, Weiss, and Woo.
“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” said Benioff, Weiss, and Woo. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”

When Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set out to craft an epic series called 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of a trilogy of sci-fi novels written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, for the Netflix streaming service, they were hoping to get four seasons out of the material. But when the first season of 3 Body Problem started streaming in March and pulled in a sizeable but underwhelming number of views, some began to question whether or not Netflix would want any more episodes of the big budget show. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Netflix has indeed ordered more episodes – but just enough to allow Benioff, Weiss, and co-creator Alexander Woo to wrap up the story. Exactly how many episodes that will be has not yet been revealed.

Netflix announced on Wednesday that it had “renewed” “3 Body Problem,” but the streamer notably didn’t refer to the extension as a “Season 2.” Instead, it appears to be more of a case of Netflix ordering “additional episodes” instead of a new, full Season 2 order.
Per a press release, the exact number of seasons and episodes will be announced at a later date.
It appears that the order will take the series to its finale, as creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo noted in a statement that they “get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion.” In an April interview with Collider, Benioff said the team would “need at least three, maybe four seasons to tell the whole story.”

A quick question: Do you like The Godfather? How about Goodfellas? Or Gremlins? Or Stop Making Sense, Avatar, Apollo 13, Chinatown, Easy Rider, Paper Moon, Lone Star, or roughly 90 percent of any movies featuring monsters terrorizing pretty ladies from the last 50 years?
You have, in so many ways, Roger Corman to thank for all of them. A producer, director and writer who became a patron saint to an entire generation of filmmakers, the “King of the Bs” either gave the artists behind those movies their start or helped give them...

HBO had the Lakers, now FX has the Clippers. Will the series’ fates differ (as the real-life teams’ have), or will “Clipped” face the same quick, quiet end as “Winning Time”? We’ll find out this June, when FX’s latest ripped-from-the-headlines adaptation premieres exclusively on Hulu. The trailer was released Thursday, April 25 — just under six weeks prior to the premiere — and now you can watch the first footage below.
Set in 2013, the six-episode limited series stars Ed O’Neill as L.A. Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling and Laurence Fishburne as the team’s head coach, Doc Rivers. Formerly with the Boston Celtics (who won an NBA title in 2008), Rivers had just joined the Clippers when the owner’s racist comments went public, sending the organization into a tailspin and Sterling into a power struggle with Rivers, players, and the NBA at large. Key players in the tumultuous saga include Shelly Sterling...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers for the finale of “Manhunt,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
The seven-episode historical miniseries “Manhunt” has come to a dramatic close. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) brought several of John Wilkes Booth’s conspirators to trial over Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, resulting in numerous hangings. Legally, he wasn’t able to thread the needle to prove a grand conspiracy, leaving him somewhat unsatisfied in his efforts to find justice for Lincoln. Yet Stanton has his next fight almost immediately after the verdict, as incoming President Andrew Johnson aims to have him removed from his position — leading the secretary of war to barricade himself in his office in protest.
Reflecting on the series — and especially the trial that takes up the majority of the final episode — Menzies speaks to how his animated facial expressions guide the audience through the highs and lows of prosecuting Lincoln’s assassins.

“Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have returned for their next act with a bold new science fiction series that is as entertaining as it is full of big ideas. The Emmy-winning duo teams with Alexander Woo (“The Terror: Infamy”) for Netflix’s “3 Body Problem,” an adaptation of Liu Cixin’s Chinese novel “The Three-Body Problem,” which is the first in a trilogy that was once deemed unadaptable. But hey, we’re all about proving people wrong these days.
The eight-episode first season, which is now streaming, transports the novel’s action to the U.K., depicting a world in which the results of experiments involving particle accelerators have stopped making sense, revealing that the world as we know it — science as we understand it — is no longer functioning as it should. The Aliens are coming. The Aliens are coming. But they’ll be a long time coming. (And here we thought Invasion on Apple TV+ was a slow burn.) So it’s best to exercise patience while wading through the labyrinth of visionary science fiction, incidental mystery, sluggish soap opera, and existential dread that embodies 3 Body Problem, an ambitious attempt to make Liu Cixin’s acclaimed sci-fi trilogy come to life. This series may be getting extra scrutiny because it’s the latest project of literary adaptation by Game of Thrones’ executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (working with The Terror: Infamy’s Alexander Woo). They’ve taken their knocks over how they ended their treatment of George R.R. Martin’s still incomplete fantasy saga—somebody had to do it—but in this case, they deserve credit for making the story more accessible and linear than the discursive, sometimes impenetrable original text.

“3 Body Problem,” the sprawling and ambitious new sci-fi-ish geopolitical mystery drama Netflix series from “Game Of Thrones” creators David Benioff, D.B. For years, fans of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series believed the books simply couldn’t be adapted to the screen. There were too many characters, spread across multiple continents, in stories that would take years to intersect. And much of the plot was inspired by events that took place decades, if not centuries, before the contemporary action. It was an impossible task, everyone assumed. No one could do that.
Then David Benioff and D.B. Weiss actually did it. HBO’s Game of Thrones was a global smash,...

Everyone is buzzing about the new ‘Walking Dead’ series, which created three times as much social media activity as the next most-popular show on Sunday.
It appears that AMC has another hit on its hands! The newest entrant in “The Walking Dead” franchise, entitled “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” drew 3 million viewers on its premiere night, making it the largest debut night audience for AMC since 2018’s “The Terror.” The show also drove a record number of sign-ups on the company’s streaming service AMC+.
“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” drove greater streaming customer acquisition for AMC+ than any show in the streamer’s history. The return of two of The Walking Dead universe’s signature characters gave the latest spinoff in the franchise a ratings jolt.
The premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live — which features the returns of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick and Danai Gurira’s Michonne — delivered 3 million viewers (inclusive of replays and simulcasts) over three days for AMC. That’s the best series debut performance on the cable network in almost six years (since The Terror in March 2018, which had the then-dominant Walking Dead flagship as a lead-in).
AMC doesn’t share data for its AMC+ streaming platform (in keeping with the m.o. for most streamers), but the company says The Ones Who Live premiere was the most watched episode of any show on the service. Peacock’s Apples Never Fall, MGM+’s Hotel Cocaine and Nrk’s buzzy drama about Leonard Cohen, So Long, Marianne will be in the International Competition race at Series Mania in March.
The shows will be up against BBC Three’s UK series Boarders, France 2 drama Dans L’Ombre (In the Shadows), Ard’s German series Herrhausen, the Banker and the Bomb, ABC Australia’s House of Gods, and Franco-Hungarian co-production Rematch, which is for Arte, Disney+ and HBO Europe.
The shows comprise an interesting cross-section of U.S. and European projects, with the Annette Bening-starring thriller Apples Never Fall among the highest profile. Hotel Cocaine, about a Cuban expatriate who re-made his life in Miami, is among MGM+’s biggest recent bets, while So Long, Marianne has been building steam as a study into the life of singer-songwriter Cohen and his muse, Marianne Ihlen.

AMC has renewed its supernatural anthology series The Terror for season 3 – and this time, we’re heading for a possibly haunted psychiatric hospital. Jolly.
The first two series of The Terror are spine-chilling, superbly creepy thrillers, and it’s with great pleasure that we’re able to report that the show’s returning with another hair-raising story.
Deadline reports that The Terror has been renewed for season three by AMC, with the new series will based on Victor Lavalle’s novel The Devil in Silver. Lavalle will also write the new series of The Terror with Chris Cantwell.
If the name Lavalle rings a bell, that would be for a good reason. His novel The Changeling was recently adapted into a compelling, thrilling AppleTV+ series of the same name, starring Lakeith Stanfield.
The Devil In Silver follows a man named Pepper, who finds himself committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital.

'Historical horror' is not a term that's been especially popularized, but it's most effective when describing the delicious combination of historical events and fictional horror. This subgenre has been quietly enjoying a great run during the last decade or so: not only have there been several movies that brilliantly mix detail-heavy period settings with creepy goings-on but there have been a number of TV shows delving into historical horror with much success, such as Showtime's "Penny Dreadful."
Latest on the scene is AMC's "The Terror," a series that so far has been able to vary its period setting, themes, and even tone thanks to being anthologized season to season. After the first season, which was based on author Dan Simmons' novel "The Terror" (hence the series' name), the second season went on to tell an original tale set in and around the Japanese internment camps in America during WWII.

It’s been five years since the last installment of The Terror, but season 3 is finally on the way.
AMC has ordered The Terror: Devil in Silver, a six-part series based on the novel written by Victor Lavalle. The story follows Pepper, “a working-class moving man who, through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget. There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbor grim secrets and perhaps even the very devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity that thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls. But doing so might prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.“
