It's the most expensive movie A24 has ever made and is currently the talk of the industry. But what makes it so special?
The plot
The movie is set in the near future where a third term president is in charge of America. During his time in office, the country has become increasingly divided. Now it's a race against time as a group of heroic journalists desperately try to reach the White House before rebel forces do. Will they make it in time? Or is America doomed?
Against this backdrop, the film explores questions such as what it really means to be a US citizen.
It's an action flick, but so much more. Amidst the drama, there are deeper layers of meaning and questions for philosophical cinephiles to ponder. It's also been praised for its stunning scenery, so there really is something for everyone.
Who's starring in it ?

Alex Garland’s Civil War takes us on a nightmarish journey into a frenetic world torn apart by fratricidal conflict, where the very fabric of society is unravelling amidst the chaos of battle. In this futurist-dystopian action thriller, Garland stages a spectacular, yet strangely politically ambiguous, portrayal of civil unrest, where the true causes of the war remain shrouded in mystery
The film follows a group of intrepid war photographers, led by Lee (Kirsten Dunst), as they navigate a world destroyed by the folly of a nation engulfed in its self-destruction. Their mission is to capture the harrowing realities of war and, hopefully, the downfall of the Commander-in-chief.

In an unprecedented move, Netflix has struck a multi-year creative partnership with Colombian writer/director team Camilo Prince and Pablo González, best known for their lauded 2020 thriller drama series “The Great Heist” and their 2019 anthology series, “Crime Diaries: Night Out,” both for Netflix.
This is the first creative pact Netflix has made with Colombian talent. Similar partnerships have been made with Venezuela’s Roberto Stopello and Leonardo Padrón as well as Mexico’s Manolo Caro, Carolina Rivera and Chilean writer José Ignacio “Chascas” Valenzuela, creator, showrunner of the hit Netflix series “Who Killed Sara?”
The new alliance coincides with the April 10 Netflix debut of the duo’s latest series, “The Hijacking of Flight 601” (“Secuestrar al Vuelo”), inspired by the longest skyjacking in Latin American history, which happened on May 30, 1973.

Good crime dramas are supposed to be gripping—ones you cannot take your eyes off even for a minute. Several crime dramas are straightforward and do not take much time to set up the premise. Narcos, Bodyguard, Ozark, Mindhunter, Money Heist, Iron Reign, and Peaky Blinders are some of the original Netflix shows that explored various facets of the crime drama genre and presented great stories through them.
Crooks is a new addition to this genre on the streaming platform that talks about the workings of various criminal gangs around certain countries in Europe and how they are interconnected. Created by Marvin Krey, Crooks is a German Netflix original, released on April 4, 2024.
Crooks is eight episodes long, with each having a runtime of forty minutes to one hour. The show is all about a prized historical coin that was stolen from a museum in Berlin by the Al-Walid crime ring of the city.

Thomas Ripley is one of those characters we end up rooting for, even though he’s practically a sociopath. We wouldn’t want to cross paths with a man like him in real life, but again, similar sentiments were evoked by Pablo Escobar in Narcos too. In Ripley, we see Pietro Ravini as a villain, even though there’s nothing villainous about him. Ravini is merely fulfilling his role as a righteous representative of the law. But again, It’s only natural that we, as the audience, have a tendency to empathize with the central character’s conundrums, regardless of the crimes he has committed. This tendency to resonate with morally ambiguous characters extends even to how people feel about the actual depictions of celestial beings in the Bible. While Ophanim or Seraphim might appear unsettling because they lack humanoid features, Satan, with his human form, is easier for people to comprehend.

In Civil War, the grisly, cautionary new film from A24 and Alex Garland, there’s a scene toward the end of the second act in which a machine gun-toting Jesse Plemons asks Wagner Moura, “What kind of American are you?” When Moura was filming in Atlanta two years ago, the stomach-turning threat inherent in the line awoke a latent nightmare in the actor. “I’m an American citizen, but I speak with an accent and I’m not from here,” says Moura. “It made me start thinking about, ‘What if I’m driving somewhere deep in the U.S. and I stop at a gas station and someone asks me where I’m from or what I’m doing there? How would I react?’”
Moura, who launched a successful acting career in his native Brazil before breaking out more widely with his role as Pablo Escobar in Narcos, stars — along with Kirsten Dunst,...

Most of the plans for the Dceu movie series were scrapped, and the actors were let go. But there was one franchise that survived outside the Dceu umbrella: Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe. This project, separate from the Dceu, has several films in the works.
After ‘The Batman’ hit theaters, talks about ‘The Batman – Part II’ began. In December 2021, Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves brainstormed ideas for future Batman films, considering introducing Robin and featuring villains like the Court of Owls. Then, in April 2022, Warner Bros. announced the next Batman film with Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson returning as the lead.
After a period of silence, it was announced that the movie, originally set for release in October 2025, has been pushed back by a year, now aiming for an October 2, 2026 release. The reasons for the delay remain unclear, but it’s speculated that the strike may have played a part,...

Netflix's Griselda is one of the best hits of 2024 so far, and there's a good reason that the show is breaking ground. Fans and critics alike have sung praises for the six-episode limited series.
The biographical crime drama tells the story of The Cocaine Godmother Griselda Blanco, who ruled the Miami underworld in the '70s and '80s and helped establish cocaine trade links between Colombia and the United States.
Sofia Vergara's role as the titular character is highly praised, and many want more to do with this crime drama. While we may not get more Griselda, there are several shows to watch that are similar to the series.
10. Weeds
Weeds is a funnier, lower-stakes version of Griselda, in a way. Hard times drive Nancy Botwin (Mary-Lousie Parker) into the marijuana trade. A widowed mother of two boys, this mom is willing to do anything for her family.

Jeremy Irons and double-Palme d’Or winner Bille August are gearing up for their highly-anticipated Count of Monte Cristo series but when offered the chance to work on the project, they had certain red lines.
“I wouldn’t have taken it if it was a movie, it had to be TV,” Danish director August told Deadline at Series Mania. “The story is so rich and deserves TV. For this one it was obvious.”
Oscar-winner Irons said TV series can do “these great novels justice” in a way that some movies can’t, referencing his breakout work on 1981’s Brideshead Revisited, which was across 13 episodes. Both stars have skewed towards movies during their decorated careers and Count Of Monte Cristo has never been made for TV. A 2002 movie version saw Richard Harris play Irons’ role.

Alex Garland's new film "Civil War" recently premiered at SXSW in Austin, Texas and to say it's going to be one of the most talked-about movies of the year might be an understatement. It's a movie with an awful lot to say, presenting ideas in very unique ways, particularly for a war film. /Film's own Jacob Hall said in his review that the film "is less about the politics of right now, and more about the horror that accompanies a world beyond politics." To that end, Garland went to great lengths to not glorify the horrors of war, and that extended to the film's soundtrack.
Garland and the cast participated in a Q&a following the film's premiere at the festival, which I attended. "Contemporary music didn't work," the filmmaker said addressing the use of a needle drop from legendary hip-hop group De La Soul in the film. "It suddenly,...

Prime Video Mexico is firing up a new original series, “Mentiras,” based on the popular Mexican stage musical.
Singer-actor Belinda and Luis Gerardo Méndez lead a stellar cast that includes Mariana Treviño (“A Man Called Otto”), Diana Bovio (“Lecciones para canallas”) and Regina Blandón (“Maquíllame otra vez”).
Gabriel Ripstein, whose credits include series “An Unknown Enemy” (“Un extraño enemigo”) and Berlin best first feature winner “600 Miles,” created the series and will serve as director and showrunner.
“In this adaptation, we will pay tribute to a story and characters that the audience adores and expand their universe, thanks to a completely innovative visual narrative,” Ripstein said. “To bring this story to life, told with more than 30 of the most successful songs of the ’80s, we have assembled a spectacular cast and crew.”
The move comes despite system-wide cutbacks announced in January that have seen layoffs across Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios and livestreaming platform Twitch.

When news of Adan Canto’s death broke in January, The Cleaning Lady was already well into production on its third season.
At the time of Canto’s death, it was revealed that he had stepped away from the Fox drama before filming commenced.
The plan was originally to bring the actor back as Arman Morales during the latter half of the season.
The Cleaning Lady Season 3 got underway on Tuesday evening on Fox, and much to the fans’ surprise, Arman was present for one of the opening scenes.
He was caught up in a shootout, but before fans saw whether the character perished, Thony (Elodie Yung) and Nadia (Eva De Dominici) had to leave the scene.
There’s no telling whether that signals the end of the road for Arman or if the series plans to reveal he escaped from the situation unscathed down the line to safety.
