Breezy

There are periods of wicked humor spaced with scenes that are awkward and tentative. But then, we are dealing with the lead character who is looking for love, and seeks out a dating service. He is awkward and while very smart in high school, and then going to Yale, has chosen to deliver pizza and video weddings. A love in his life only will consider professional Jewish men, and that is not him. He goes to a dating site, where they state the price is $2995, and when he says three thousand, they keep reminding his it is $2995, not $3000. And the head of the service can really put out the charm and baloney. The company guarantees they will get him a match, and he buys a certain number of matches. There are scenes at a health club, where the name of the colleges on the young women's shorts add some humor when partially blocked. As each date bombs out, he keeps getting 'free' referrals. Frustrated, he decides to sue, and as his friend is an attorney, he things he will get represented by him. The trial has a lot of humor, and the judge really does a great part in his role as a small claims judge. Those scenes are probably the best part of the movie. It is a gentle movie with nice humor, but it is not a highly polished movie, but certainly enjoyable enough. Some of the critics miss the point about the set ups. One is dealing with adults who feel they have no other chance for love, and for them, the stakes are much higher than would be with dating in high school. It is very likely that a college film class could produce a better film, but would they capture the dating dilemma of some adults? The pitch is this movie is to mimic comedies of the 1930's and 1940's, which is a much different approach than is current.

The ratings are definitely off

The characters are likable and the plot is OK. But the production costs were probably $29.99. They use special effects that look like they've been created by a 3rd grader in MS Paint. The dialogue is unnatural because the actors deliver all of their lines without any pause. It's not a horrible movie, but the overwhelmingly positive ratings just have to be fake.

Don't Believe the Ratings
kvatter1 October 2017
I can only surmise that the entire cast, crew and family members involved with this film were the 40 votes of 10 stars because I defy anyone to get through more than 30 minutes of this film without reaching for the off button on the TV. The dialogue is unrealistic, forced and delivered in a stilted manner. The direction is lacking any creativity. The entire movie consists of two shots of characters delivering that stiff dialogue interspersed with extreme close-ups, sometimes at odd unflattering angles. Close-up, two-shot, close-up, two-shot...all flatly lit. Nary an interesting visual to be found. You'll have the entire story figured out in about 10 minutes. Really. Don't believe the ratings. Even if all other movies suddenly vanished from the earth, this would still not be a 10...or a 5.

Great

I have seen the movie, Boot the Pigeon, twice. It is a charming story of male and female connections. It is funny and realistic. It makes you think about who you are and who you want to be. Something we all think about The writing, the director, and the cast are wonderful. The subject is inspiring and you leave the theater with thoughts of your own life, the good and the not so good. This is a movie that we all should see! I highly recommend "Boot the Pigeon." You will thank me for the tip and the smile upon your face on your way home. Make sure you tell all your friends about Boot the Pigeon after you have seen it. They will thank you too. Get some popcorn a good seat and watch the film Janis

Dismal

My wife and I watch terrible movies for fun and we were worried going into this one that an 8/10 was going to be too good for us. Boy were we wrong. As stated in the other review, the camera work is bad, lighting is bad, jokes are bad, chemistry is bad, lines are bad, acting is bad, special effects are bad, the storyline is bad... The actual lawsuit scene is so bad simply suspending disbelief won't cut it, you'll have to put it down like a horse with a broken leg. Believe me, move on and pick another movie to watch. You'll thank me.
