- Sasha falls victim of a housing scam, a classic Nairobi con. She and her friends decide to go after the con artist. But the system is never that straight-forward in a flawed system where con and corruption is rife.
- Sasha is desperate to move out of her parents' house and start her own life in Nairobi. She meets friendly, middle-aged landlady Mrs Mwaniki, and believes her exciting life of independence is about to begin, only to discover she has been conned: her deposit gone and no new flat to move in to. A classic Nairobi con. But instead of just accepting that "this is what happens in the city of hustle", Sasha and three friends decide to pursue Mrs Mwaniki to try and get the stolen money back. The four friends encounter lazy cops, sleazy figures of authority and corrupt journalists as they try to bring the thief to justice. They soon realize that the only people they can rely on are themselves and if they want to get the upper hand they're going to have to get a whole lot smarter, and fast.—Aggie Nyagari
- Sasha, a 20 something that lives with her parents is desperate to move out and gain her own independence. She finds a flat online and calls the number, asking for a viewing. On arrival at the place, she's met by a sweet middle aged lady called Mrs. Mwaniki who tells her all about the area, the best shopping malls, etc. The two connect instantly and Sasha feels she's with a mother figure. She hands over all the cash that she can get when the lady asks for the deposit and the first 3 months' rent. Unbeknownst to her, this whole set up is a scam and Sasha loses the money as soon as the woman drives off with it. She goes back and tells her friends Johnny and Kelly who sympathize with her, though they can't help her much. Suddenly a man (Patrick) from the next table at the pub who's overheard the entire conversation approaches them and claims to also have fallen victim to the same woman. Together, they join forces and go to the police, who not only keep them waiting a long time but also treat them like they're a nuisance. Until Sasha mentions the amount of money she lost, which gets Seargent Otieno's ears to perk up! He gets officer Njuguna on the case immediately! As with Otieno, Njuguna is also taken by surprise by how much money the girl lost and he in turn tries to extort them!
The four friends, fed up with the police decide to give up and on their way home, Sasha spots Mrs. Mwaniki's con accomplice! They give chase until they catch him and he confesses to everything, albeit amused at Sasha's naivety/stupidity. But now the gang have more information on Mrs. Mwaniki's dealings, her other fake businesses plus the whereabouts of her offices. The four decide to divide and conquer: The girls go to her medical office to investigate while the boys go to her lawyer business. Both come back to report how fictitious the set ups are and how both fraudulent businesses operate. They decide to interrogate one of the lawyer office clients called Mr. Njoro to find out how he's doing, only to learn he's lost everything!
Having been frustrated by the police, Johnny declares it's time to move on to the next level up: The chief of police! He went to school with the chief's son so he manages to get them all an appointment and they go in armed with all the information and evidence gathered, and Chief Ruto promises to get this woman in no time! The four go out to celebrate. The next day, the chief calls them to say he's caught Mrs. Mwaniki! The girls dash to get more info while the boys go to see about Mr. Njoro. The girls are met with a sleazy Chief Ruto who tries to seduce them to join him in his holiday resort while the boys learn that Njoro was a victim of police brutality! The girls manage to get away with a piece of evidence showing the payments Mrs. Mwaniki has been making to the police and armed with all this, the four decide to go to the press! They get a meeting with a reporter who praises their hard work and determination, promising to get them what they want. But as soon as they leave, she's on the phone with Mrs. Mwaniki warning her of the four youths sniffing around! By this point, everyone seems to be in on this major operation!
Next thing they know, the four get attempts on their lives, getting them totally spooked and afraid to get involved any further, which leads to them all retracting into their individual holes. But a chance encounter with Mrs. Mwaniki at a restaurant ignites Kelly's appetite for justice and revenge! She calls a meeting with the others and tells them what happened, managing to convince them to get back on the case, but with a different strategy in mind; they decide to take matters into their own hands! The four set up a trap using their own man so they don't risk being found out. The trap works and Mrs. Mwaniki is made to believe there's a huge business venture that involves Richard Branson. The set up is so convincing that she runs around trying to raise money to invest in this international multi-million dollar deal. Johnny, who is the only one of the four to not have encountered with Mrs. Mwaniki, goes to meet with her and the white man behind the 'deal' called Andrew. But when they meet on the supposed land where this project is to be put up, she gives them an empty case, claiming to have run some background checks and found there to be no deal that ever existed! Just when they seem to have been busted, Andrew claims to have evidence to show that the project is legit, leading them to a construction site. On seeing how they're received, how knowledgeable Andrew seems and how comfortable they are on the site, Mrs. Mwaniki is again convinced and she rushes to sell all her assets, gather as much cash as she could from her 'clients' and manages to raise just enough of the money which she wires to 'Mr. Richard Branson'!
The four, now five including British man Andrew, are blown away by the success they've had when they see the money reflect on the computer screen! They immediately embark on a mission to reimburse all the victims they could get a hold of and use the remaining money to set up an office to solve fraudulent cases and help victims recover their lost funds. Meanwhile, Mrs. Mwaniki is on the run after using up money she had to solicit from clients, the businesses and all contacts, including Chief Ruto and the journalist friend. She flees the country and goes into hiding in Somalia.
