Body Shaming, Stereotypes, Talentless Host -- This Episode Has It All Except Laughs
Last week's SNL with Aubrey Plaza was actually kinda good. Surprising not because of Plaza, who is funny, but because of SNL, which is not.
But this weeks' episode just plain stunk, falling back on dumb skits and jokes that were on the level of a junior high school skit. From a bland host to obvious jokes to skits that just went nowhere, a train wreck.
The one about dubbing voices for a videogame has been done already. The one about the morning show people who'd been stuck on a roller coaster had a couple sight gags but went on way too long. The one about a stripper with a Shemp Howard haircut wasn't funny once but kept going anyway. Why does Heidi Gardner think she's funny?
Some of the skits were just weird. One about a male confidence seminar turns into some of the worst body shaming you can think of with racist overtones about common features among some races but not others. I thought we live in an age where all that's to be discouraged?
This was a terrible episode. I laughed maybe twice, and both times were during the roller coaster skit.
