Korean pop-rock group The Rose closed out their recent Coachella performance with their 2023 song “Wonder,” bringing the University of Southern California marching band out for the performance.
“It was like a dream come true in a way,” main vocalist and keyboardist Dojoon tells The Hollywood Reporter on a Zoom call from Seoul.
The Rose consists of four members — singer and guitarist Woosung, bassist Jaehyeong, drummer Hajoon and Dojoon. The quartet released their first single “Sorry” in 2017. Two years later, Dojoon, Jaehyeong and Hajoon went on hiatus to complete their mandatory military service. Woosung, who did not have to enlist, spent that time releasing solo music.
The group reunited in 2022, releasing their first full-length album Heal. “I mean Heal was the fundamental … the deep backbone of our music,” says Dojoon. The album earned the group a No. 4 spot on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart.

Zack Snyder’s vision for the Dceu was regarded as legendary. His storytelling, cinematography, and design methods were excellent, and he understood the characters he was portraying perfectly well. Even though he has walked away from the franchise, these are facts that no one can take away from him.

Zack Snyder’s Dceu failed due to its darker tone, inconsistent storytelling, and divisive creative choices until it was ultimately replaced by Gunn’s & Safran’s Dcu. While some appreciated his vision, others found it too grim and disconnected from the iconic characters. Still, despite Dceu being mostly bad, according to general consensus it did give rise to some of the most popular superhero movies in the last few years.
Notably, ‘Wonder Woman,’ was a massive hit and opened a lot of possibilities for the character in the Dceu, soon after, the sequel followed, and released during Covid-19 it still managed to be somewhat successful but nowhere near the first installment.
Still, Snyder originally had very different plans for the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie, in a project dubbed ‘Wonder Woman 1854.’ In an interview with Empire Magazine to promote his upcoming film, ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scavenger,’ the director also opened...

While Superhero-fatigue was not at its peak, several movies from both superhero brands— Marvel and DC Studios, enjoyed the heydays at the box office. Amid that, stand-alone female-led movies have also seen astonishing success.

Throughout the course of the Dceu, we saw Wonder Woman in a variety of environments – in her native home of Themiscyra with the Amazons; fighting through the battlefields of World War I with Steve Trevor; living in 1980s USA in Wonder Woman 1984; and battling alongside Batman and Superman in the present-day in Justice League. But, once upon a time, there was an idea to present a different kind of early Wonder Woman story – one that would have seen her fighting in the Crimean War in the 1800s. All that came of the possible project – dubbed ‘Wonder Woman 1854’ – was an image that Snyder shared on social media, with Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince surrounded by soldiers and… er, holding three severed heads.
In Empire’s major new interview with Snyder – in The Acolyte issue – we posed him your reader questions. And among them came up the topic of Wonder Woman 1854, and what it might have been.

Until recently, filmmaker Jon Erwin was the reigning box-office champ for faith-based films with “I Can Only Imagine” and “Jesus Revolution.” Shortly after “Sound of Freedom” opened to $14.2 million, he offered advice to Angel Studios on how it might capitalize that success.
By November, when the child-trafficking drama grossed $250 million worldwide, Erwin lost his bragging rights. He remembers joking with the producers, “It wasn’t supposed to work this much!”
Ego aside, he welcomed the success. As “Sound of Freedom” inspired box-office think pieces and conspiracy-theory controversy, Erwin and partner Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten were in talks with Amazon Studios. Today, their company The Wonder Project is producing a slate of faith-based series and films; Erwin said he’d “be lying” if he believed “Sound of Freedom” didn’t help him get a better deal.

Katic is no stranger to superhero projects. She’s voiced some of comic books’ most iconic characters across a few forms of media. This included playing Talia Al Ghul in the video game Batman: Arkham City, and Wonder Woman in the animated film Justice Society: World War II. But fans of the acclaimed animated series might be surprised to learn that the iconic villain, Mr. Freeze, almost had a very different depiction than the one showed in the series.
While the episode featuring Freeze, Heart of Ice, went on to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing, the initial plan for the character in Batman Beyond could have deviated from that well-established legacy.

Wonder Woman has the distinction of being one of the better film series in the Dceu, which ultimately collapsed and is awaiting its reboot at the hands of James Gunn. Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot were able to craft a stunning narrative, one that talked about themes of war and peace, that painted humanity in a fundamentally flawed light.
Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman
However, despite the praises that were heaped on the film, one pivotal scene in the movie undoes the themes and the motifs that the film sets up, destroying what the film was trying to say. Wonder Woman as a film lays all the blame for the war at the feet of the human race, waxing poetic about humanity’s capacity for inflicting suffering. However, one particular scene flips the script completely, changing what the film had set up all this time.

I don’t know what they are planning on doing or why, so I have sympathy for what a big job it is and they have to follow their heart and do what they’ve got planned,” Patty explained on the Talking Pictures podcast.
She also revealed that she’s back writing her new Star Wars movie,...

Patty Jenkins is still working on the screenplay for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. This is per her appearance on the TCM/Max podcast. Many assumed the project was dead and it’s not.
She was attached to the project in early December of 2020, where it was announced during Disney virtual investor day during Covid. Jenkins then stepped away to work on Wonder Woman 3, which was ultimately deep-sixed by new DC co-Bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Soon after Wonder Woman 3 blew up back in December 2022, Jenkins said in the press then that Lucasfilm and Disney made a new deal for her on Rogue Squadron, a project dear to her heart as she’s taking inspiration from her Air Force fighter pilot father Capt. Williams T. Jenkins who served during the Vietnam War.
We hear from sources that Rogue Squadron was never dead or re-ignited: it’s status quo as far as development is concerned.

In Patty Jenkins' bonkers superhero sequel "Wonder Woman 1984," a smarmy yuppie named Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) has discovered an ancient wishing stone that can grant him one wish, but only in exchange for something valuable to him. Maxwell, rather than making a wish, gets clever, wishing to absorb the powers of the stone, and become a wishing object himself. When someone touches him and makes a wish, he has the power to grant it, but can now make vocal demands in exchange. He essentially wishes for more wishes.
A mousy nerd named Barbara Minvera (Kristen Wiig), who works with Wonder Woman's secret identity Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), clearly has a crush on her, coveting Diana's assured demeanor. Barbara also has a chance to make a wish on the wishing stone and wishes to be more like Diana, not knowing that Diana is an immortal demigoddess with superpowers. Barbara's superpowers,...

Henry Cavill began his superhero career on screen as part of the most iconic trinity in comic books. Starring alongside Ben Aflleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Cavill’s Superman is a character that a lot of fans swear by even today, after the demise of the DC Extended Universe.
Henry Cavill as Superman
A new rumor suggests that Henry Cavill has signed a deal with Marvel, with the popular consensus being that it will be for the role of Captain Britain. With Reed Richards also coming to the MCU, and Thor looking for a revamp, it seems that a new multiversal trinity could be making its debut ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars, one that has the multiversal might to fight Kang and his army of Variants. If the rumors regarding Captain Britain are true, Henry Cavill could find himself at the center of another iconic superhero trinity.

“I’ll slap your punk as* 10 more times”: Dwayne Johnson Shows No Regrets After Insulting Cody Rhodes
Yesterday’s WWE SmackDown got heated when The Rock came back after the clash with Cody Rhodes at the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff press event in Las Vegas.
All eyes were on The Rock at the WWE SmackDown held at Salt Lake City yesterday. Everyone knew about what went down at the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff press event. So, they all wanted to hear what he had to say about it. To be clear, the Hollywood star showed no regret.

In yesterday’s showdown, The Rock joined The Bloodline and mocked the Marietta native’s desire for a rematch, saying it’s not how things work in sports. But that’s not all. Before the SmackDown, he also took to X and posted an unapologetic post, showing zero regret.

Some bonds develop unexpectedly, transcending the limits of professional collaborations. For Irish actor Cillian Murphy, known for his enigmatic roles and intense performances, one such unexpected bromance took center stage, not with Jamie Dornan, but with the iconic filmmaker, Christopher Nolan.

Irish actors Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy might seem like a natural match. After all, they hail from the same land and even broke out into the public eye around the same time with 50 Shades of Grey and Peaky Blinders, respectively. However, despite their initial admiration for each other’s work, Murphy’s true bromance bloomed with someone else entirely: Hollywood Auteur Christopher Nolan.

Believe it or not but the Super Bowl wasn’t always the major media event that it is today.
Before network executives fully understood Americans’ passion for football, the NFL’s championship game received no special treatment. In fact, NBC and CBS didn’t even bother to save their broadcasts of Super Bowl I, recording over the tapes with soap operas. One of the most consequential sporting events in North American history could have become lost media if it weren’t for a handful of fans who made their own bootleg copies.
By now, however, everyone is keenly aware that the most widely-viewed American TV broadcast every year will inevitably be the Super Bowl. Last year’s matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles was the most-watched telecast ever with an average of 115.1 million viewers tuning in across all platforms. Stars of Matthew Vaughn’s new spy thriller Argylle do their best to briefly describe the film in Universal Pictures’ latest minute-long featurette. Adjectives tossed out include crazy, mindblowing, smart, and sexy, with Bryan Cranston advising that it’s not always possible to understand the madness of Matthew Vaughn – you just have to go with it.
In addition to Emmy winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), the ensemble includes Bryce Dallas Howard (the Jurassic World films), Oscar winner Sam Rockwell, Henry Cavill (The Witcher), John Cena (Peacemaker), Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), and Grammy winner Dua Lipa (Barbie). Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) also star.

A caustically funny cosmic joke of a film about an insecure actor who finds a miracle cure for his facial disfigurement, only to be upstaged by a stranger who oozes self-confidence despite (still) having the exact same condition the main character had once allowed to hold him back, Aaron Schimberg’s ruthless and Escher-like “A Different Man” might have felt cruel if not for how cleverly it complicates its punchline.
Are we supposed to be laughing at someone — someone who’s been treated like a monster for his entire adult life — just because they couldn’t resist the opportunity to shed their skin? Anyone familiar with Schimberg’s “Chained for Life,” which similarly defenestrated the notion of disabilities as “God’s mistakes,” already knows the answer to that question. Besides, who among us would pass up the chance to look like Sebastian Stan?
In that light, it’s more tempting...

Amazon MGM Studios is partnering with The Wonder Project to launch House of David, a straight to order series that will stream exclusively on Prime Video.
House of David follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. A prophet prepares to overthrow him — anointing the outcast shepherd boy David as a second king. As Saul’s fury grows, David navigates love, violence and politics in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. Two kings. One Kingdom. The outcome is war.
The Wonder Project, led by veteran producer Jon Erwin and entertainment executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, will also develop series and films rooted in spirituality for Prime Video under this new deal. Dallas Jenkins, the creator and producer-director of The Chosen, is a large shareholder and special advisor to The Wonder Project.

Pop singer Shawn Mendes, 25, has opened up about the challenges that he faced in 2023.
On January 2, the musician posted on his Instagram that his biggest takeaway from the past year was to “accept and welcome the lows of life,” as well as “not to constantly need to change or fix something in order to feel high again, because I know if I really slow down and listen when I’m low there’s always something to hear.”
Mendes shared that last year was a year of self-discovery through “moments of extreme anxiety or fear.”
He also stated that music was one of the only things that would help, explaining that singing would encourage him to accept himself more and more.
“If I sat down with my harmonium and allowed myself with full trust to sing whatever came out it would often ease the pain,” he reflected.

"That was the worst experience I've ever seen in a business which is full of some s**** experiences. It broke my heart," Ben Affleck said last year of his experience making 2017's "Justice League." Affleck went through the wringer when he was announced as our next Batman before donning the cape and cowl in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." And yet, for all of the vitriol and for all of the critical bashing of that film, it was Zack Snyder's follow-up that would break Affleck's spirit. What went wrong? Just about everything, it seems.

For more than a decade, there seemed to be three absolutes in Hollywood: death, taxes, and superhero movies doing big business. The genre of capes and cowls looked as invincible as many of its protagonists, soaring above the rest of the industry’s slings and arrows, and always landing on its feet in a heroic pose. This status quo arguably goes back nearly a quarter century, to when Hugh Jackman first donned a pair of claws and Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire made you believe a boy could swing.
Still, for most moviegoers, the genre has long been synonymous with one production house: Marvel Studios, which for the last 15 years would at least hit a single when it went up to bat (albeit 2021’s The Eternals might have been more a walk to base). That perception changed dramatically in 2023, though, when not one, not two, not three, but six superhero movies underperformed or outright flopped,...

2023 has been, broadly speaking, a very good year at the box office. The domestic total for the year will be at or near $9 billion — far exceeding 2022's $7.366 billion total, representing an increase of more than 20 percent year-over-year. More than that, the top three movies of the year, which are "Barbie" ($1.44 billion), "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($1.36 billion), and "Oppenheimer" ($953 million), were not sequels. It's the first time in decades that this has been the case. Unfortunately, the party is going to come to a screeching halt in January as the 2024 release calendar is a barren wasteland, at least for the first chunk of the year.
The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that the 2024 domestic box office could take a hit as large as $2 billion. That would be devastating, to put it lightly. Movie theaters have been operating on anything but stable ground since the pandemic arrived in 2020. The good news is...

Two industry insiders have raised more than $75 million to fund the launch of a studio that aims to elevate production values for faith-based, uplifting and inspirational movies and TV shows.
Director-producer Jon Erwin and former YouTube and Netflix executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten have joined forces to create the Wonder Project, a production company based in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. The pair see an enormous opportunity to establish a premium brand for faith-based and faith-infused content that is rooted in Christian traditions.
Lionsgate, producer Jason Blum, United Talent Agency, Sovereign’s Capital and Powerhouse Capital are among the notables who have contributed to more than $75 million in seed and Series A funding raised to date. Merryman Hoogstraten serves as CEO; Erwin is chief creative officer. Dallas Jenkins, the independent producer-director behind the drama series “The Chosen,” which revolves around the life of Jesus, will be a special adviser to the company.

Benny (Keir Tallman) is a city kid: a proud San Diego resident who loves action figures and Fleetwood Mac, and who can speak with nonchalant ease about the benefits of an annual pass to Sea World. So when his parents — including his beloved mother (Owee Rae), the very same person who encourages his Fleetwood Mac-based dancing and soap opera-esque action figure playing! — decide to send Benny to his grandmother’s house on an out-of-state Navajo reservation for the summer, he’s rightly put out. And when he finally arrives at the local bus depot, the plucky 11-year-old turns right back around and tries to zoom promptly back to San Diego.
But, as becomes a constant theme throughout Billy Luther’s winning first narrative feature “Frybread Face and Me,” Benny’s family is there to catch him, whether he likes it or not. Set in 1990, and smacking of period details that never feel over the top,...

This Blue Beetle article contains spoilers.
At the start of Blue Beetle’s second act, protagonist Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) asks an important question: “Who the hell was Blue Beetle?”
A lot of viewers wondered the same thing when the Warner Bros. movie came to theaters earlier this year and they’ll likely be asking it again now that the movie is streaming on Max. People don’t ask that same question of Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, but not because Blue Beetle is at best a C-lister in the DC Comics bullpen. Rather it’s because the man behind the Blue Beetle mask has changed several times since Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski debuted the character in 1939.
The big-screen adaptation introduces Blue Beetle as Jaime Reyes, who is a recent college grad forced to the superhero identity after receiving an alien scarab from Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), the daughter of inventor Ted Kord,...

Monolith’s upcoming Wonder Woman game is a single-player game and not live service, Warner says, refuting earlier stories to the contrary.
Last week, a job advertisement for a lead software engineer made the news when it was noticed that one of the desired qualities was for experience in maintaining a “live software product or game.” That job ad was for Monolith Productions, which is currently working on the upcoming Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. Interactive – leading to the theory that Wonder Woman would itself be a live service game.
The story became so widespread that Warner Bros has come forward with a statement on the matter, which it shared with IGN.
“Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open-world,” a spokesperson for the company told the outlet. “This third person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe,...

Sometimes, you have too many irons in the fire and must take one out and let it cool. According to Deadline, Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is no longer helming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty for Marvel Studios. Deadline says they hear Cretton’s exit is amicable, with the in-demand filmmaker remaining in the Marvel family for Wonder Man and Shang-Chi 2. Thankfully, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is years away from hitting theaters, giving Marvel ample time to reassign the Infinity War-level project to another director. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty releases on May 1, 2026, setting up Avengers: Secret Wars for May 7, 2027. The two event-driven films end the MCU’s Phase 6 timeline.
Cretton remains a creative force on Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man, which he co-created with Andrew Guest, who serves as showrunner. Cretton executive produces Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man. Filming for the Disney+ series falls under...

On Wednesday evening, while most of Hollywood was cheering the news that the months-long actors strike had just come to an end, some 200 invited members of the industry — most of them avowed supporters of Israel — convened at the Museum of Tolerance in West L.A. for a screening of a film unlike any other: Bearing Witness, which comprises 43 minutes of footage of atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists against Israeli citizens on Oct. 7.
The somber gathering took place under heavy guard. Another media outlet leaked the location at which it would be taking place, resulting in threats against the museum and necessitating an FBI advance team in the days leading up to it. On Wednesday, a considerable number of LAPD officers were stationed inside the museum’s theater, out on the surrounding streets and in a helicopter overhead. But in the end, there appeared to be no more than a few...
