- Captain Jonathan Archer, T'Pol and Trip meet Sarin and she explains that Klaang is a courier, bringing an important message from her to the leaders of the Klingons in Kronos about rebels Suliban that intend to promote the Temporal Cold War among the Klingons. Archer feels the need of rescuing Klaang and travels to the Suliban mother-ship with Trip to bring the Klingon back to Enterprise. T'Pol seems to understand that loyalty is an emotion that cannot be avoided by humans.
- Captured Archer is taken to meet their leader Sarin. Sarin (Melinda Clarke), once a member of the Suliban Cabal (not anymore as the Cabal wanted Sulibans to evolve and she found the price of evolution too high), (Sarin has the ability to tell if anyone is lying by having close contact with them. She kisses Archer to judge his truth) tells Archer that she gave Klaang a message regarding proof of Suliban involvement in recent attacks on Klingon factions (making it look like one faction is attacking the other), to be delivered to the Klingon High Council. Without this proof, the empire would be thrown into chaos.
The enhanced Suliban are following orders in a Temporal Cold War. Sarin offers to help Archer find Klaang, but she doesn't have a star-ship. Suliban from the Cabal show up and attack, due to which Silik (leader of the Suliban Cabal and the man talking to the mysterious figure, presumably from the future) kills Sarin and Archer is shot (while trying to rescue T'Pol from a Suliban attack on the roof, when the away team was trying to get into their pod), but the away team escapes back to Enterprise.
T'Pol (after taking command of the Enterprise) modifies Enterprise's sensors to track the Suliban vessel (by measuring the rate of decay of their plasma exhausts) that attacked them, and they follow it to a gas giant. Archer is surprised that T'Pol didn't order the Enterprise back to Earth and instead decided to see the mission through. Archer doesn't tell T'Pol about the temporal cold war that Sarin warned him about. Meanwhile, aboard the alien complex, Silik talks with the mysterious figure again, who tells Silik to stop the humans and the Vulcans from getting hold of Klaang again.. Silik knows that the humans have followed the Sulibans to their helix.
Within the gas giant is the Helix, a Suliban aggregate structure composed of hundreds of Suliban cell ships, which the Enterprise crew scan to find Klaang. They find the location of Klaang, but don't have a way of bringing him out of the helix. The transporter is not yet safe. Using the magnetic grapple device, Enterprise grabs an attacking Suliban ship, with its pilot ejecting during the capture
After studying the captured ship and its controls, Archer and Tucker pilot it to the Helix. Archer and Tucker find Klaang inside the Helix. On their return, the duo are attacked by Suliban inside the Helix. Becoming separated, Tucker returns with Klaang to Enterprise. The Enterprise was under attack from Suliban ships and was hiding in the liquid atmosphere layer of the gas giant. It was having to change its position to avoid the depth charges being fired at them and hence Tucker had trouble locating them. But Sato figures out a faint communication from Tucker and helps T'Pol pinpoint their exact location. After a brief physical confrontation between Archer and Silik in a temporally altered audience room (where Silik was speaking to the mysterious figure from the future), Tucker uses Enterprise's new transporter to beam Archer out of the Helix.
They deliver Klaang and his message (encoded as DNA in his blood) to Qo'NoS and the Klingon Chancellor and Council. Archer tells Tucker and T'Pol that Starfleet has ordered them to continue their mission. After reconsidering his preconceptions of Vulcans, he also invites T'Pol to stay on board and she agrees to ask permission.
