Relatable, Crisp & Complete
bkpbsqm4 March 2023
I have kind of a soft spot for this film as I find it quite relatable to quite a few of my own experiences. I also found it to be very well written, executed and edited. Goes to show that passion and hard work go a long way. I hope a lot of youth and their parents watch and get inspired, not just to pursue passions but also to keep a check on mental health. The actors and dancers have done a brilliant job. A huge thanks and kudos to the creators & team for tying it all together so beautifully, addressing extremely pressing matters & creating something that will remain close to my heart, always.

A film unlike any other In recent times. There is something to take back for everyone. Love the chaotic calm that is beautifully fused with Dance. Over all, A very important message for our generation. Mental health matters, mental health is real & beautiful shown in this movie. A delicate topic, delivered with clever and dignified treatment. The songs as well as the Background score is soulfully stirring, making a long lasting impression in minds. Thank you to everyone involved in making this film. Please watch it. Wish to see more from this team. The entire cast n crew take a bow n continue the good work. Must watch for those looking for meaningful real cinema.

A good movie can also distract us from emotional pain or give us a place to put our unshed tears. When you are dealing with issues or mental health struggles, immersing yourself in another world and focusing on the characters, plotline, and story can help you forget about your own issues really good concept with best each short of film watch this film with your family and friends this type of content never found in industry. Films can provide an outlet for their thoughts and feelings-at least for a little while. "When we are feeling depressed, inspiring movies can serve as a kind of timeout from the way we are feeling,"

It is a powerful film tackling the youth mental health crisis, highlighted by a stellar performance from Krishna Chaturvedi as mentor Robert. Darsheel Safary's portrayal of a youth struggling with mental health adds authenticity and depth to the narrative.

Krishna Chaturvedi's Robert exudes compassion and wisdom, making his character inspiring. The chemistry between Safary and Krishna's character is electrifying, showing the transformative power of mentorship.

Director Sumeet Nagdev's direction is superb, crafting a compelling narrative that resonates deeply with the audience. The film's soundtrack and cinematography enhance the emotional depth.

'Ho Ja Mukt' is a cinematic masterpiece addressing mental health issues with grace. It's a must-watch, with exceptional performances and outstanding direction. Highly recommended!

Masterpiece of our minds

An eye opener for a reality that is synonyms with everyone household... a situation with multiple perspectives, layers, people, personalities, capacities, generations... How to uncomplicate, how to detangle, how to simplify, how to silence the unheard chaos...

So well made, the acting, the direction, the title song of the movie gives me goosebumps everytime I listen. Subtle yet deep music and lyrics, the plot is very intriguing and most generations can relate.

Takeaway - Leaves me pondering whether it's freedom from our own shackles, or of the world that shackles us... Chronicles of freedom from within.

The film Ho Ja Mukt is a poignant and thought-provoking look at the issue of mental health and the impact it has on individuals and their families. It highlights the importance of seeking help and support in times of need and encourages open conversations about mental health. It also highlights the role of performing arts in advocating mental health which for me as an Artist myself was a great eye opener

It is a must-watch film that deals with a sensitive issue in a nuanced and realistic manner. Its a heart-wrenching and compelling story that will leave a lasting impact on audiences. Loved it!

Excellent movie after a long time.

Beautiful movie with such a deep meaning and message for all parents.it has soulful songs, excellent acting by all characters. In the beginning story slowly builds up annd then picks up steam annd after that it runs like a super fast train. The movie has extraordinary emotional and sensitive content of human feelings - what a father wants from a son in the society without caring for his child's emotions, a soft and caring mothers heart , and a sibling with some detached but caring attitude keeps you glued to the seat for the entire duration. Dance choreography was excellent and flawless. Singers sang beautifully.

"The seemingly harmless inward turmoil of a millennial boy turns into more severe problems. It is a movie that millennials and older generations will connect to alike"

HO JA MUKT (A Sasha Productions Film) Written and Directed by Sumeet Nagdev .

Review by Shreshtha Tripathi .

"Mukt is a rare movie that deals with how the seemingly harmless inward turmoil of a millennial boy turns into more severe problems. The film has some engaging open hearted conversations on mental heath issues, and is a film that millennials and older generations will connect to alike" .

Darsheel Safary's convincing acting supported by Sarika Singh, Maneesh Verma, Poorvi Koutish, Naman Jain, Shibani Bedi, Krishna Chaturvedi makes a stellar cast. Sandesh Shandilya's touching music adds beautifully to the plot.

. Artists have strong imaginations which must be channelled correctly. Vicky finds himself trapped in his mind. Sumeet Nagdev's script and direction engages the viewer immediately. Some of the heart-wrenching scenes in the first half of the film almost makes the viewer empathise and thus makes them a part of Vicky's journey to freedom.

. The movie uses metaphors that give the mind food for thought just in the right amount. It brings the viewer's attention to deeper issues. The dance sequences certainly keep the viewer hooked.

. Personally, I connected with the film on various levels. We often forget that complex problems have simple solutions. Watch Vicky's journey that takes the viewer through feelings of fear, frustation, denial, love and eventual freedom. Overall, this is the kind of content that the India of today needs to see!

An extraordinary experience
elstevens119 May 2023
This review is from an American perspective.

Ho Ja Mukt is an incredible journey on a variety of levels. It is hard hitting and yet introspective at the same time. It explores family dynamics that seem to exist worldwide with a fresh perspective.

But the focus of the film, depression, is explored with a depth rarely seen in modern cinema. In some scenes, you can almost feel the pain that the lead character, Vicky, is so intensely experiencing.

Perhaps the most surprising (and effective) aspect of the film is how the story is packaged (and energized) by the music and dance elements.

Highly recommended.

A must watch ... Amazing
aldinabraganza5 May 2023
_Ho ja Mukta_ is a heartfelt movie directed by Sumeeth Nagdev. The movie cleverly follows a young Vicky who struggles with anxiety and depression.

The director has given attention to details which is what makes the film intersting and unique. In the age of a post COVID era stressors have multiplied . There is uncertainty that leads to anxiety and stress ..creating a Domino effect.. Mental health specialist are concerned about the increase in the number of reported cases of depression and postulations in the coming years are not comforting .... So definitely a good time for people to address this issue. . What I liked most about the movie is the portrayal of *stressors* ... Stress is difficult to visualise or quantify but the way the film has been directed by Sumeeth directed and shot by Hair Nair ( DOP) one can relate to the cacophony of the destructive thoughts that plague the mind almost obsessively (the man trapped in a cage .). The triggers : heartbreak, exams, parental expectations... The ugly thoughts keep flooding the mind whenever the protagonist feels stress. It is the switch of hopelessness that once comes on is tough to switch off and requires constant awareness. His struggles as portrayed are very close to the reality of depression. The obsession of being trapped and an inability to break free.. looking for that one moment of hope. It is easy for people going thru depression to become obsessed with hopelessness.. that's what makes depression so tough !! A dark place which they find so hard to escape... The other character l found significant was Vicky's Father . His inability to see life from anything except a patriarchal mindset... Not realising the damage he is creating.. ( the point comes across strongly even between the psychiatrist and husband) . A delicate understanding woven into the film is how parents are reacting from their own memories of their childhood. Vicky's father doesn't know any other way because that was the way he was brought up himself.

The complex family dynamics .. The inconsistency in the parenting styles that often set stage for young minds to stop believing in themselves.

The director was able to keep the narrative as close as possible to real life experience. This for me is what makes the film so special and relatable.

Families find it hard to accept and wait till the end to consult a mental health specialist... They refuse to accept it as an illness..hoping for a magical cure.. but it's an everyday experience..a personal fight .. I think the interactions between the doctor, patient and his family has been also carefully constructed... The struggles with medication... And how stressors keep popping up time and time again even though the treatment is on.

I am glad that the movie didn't actually show a dark ending. The hope that comes across thru with the beautiful singer is a winner for me.. Who against all her own odds finds life beautiful and meaningful and gives hope to all the others ... I think that hope is so critical and yet not so easy ... There is drama and dance which is art in motion and the lyrics empowering ..so it does pull the viewer in .. I loved it ..a 10/10 rating from me Thank you Sumeeth ...🙏🏽 Great piece of work.
