Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s self-help book and memoir Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life is now on store shelves (copies can be purchased at This Link), and in that book Schwarzenegger discusses some of the terrible stuff – actually, he says terrible shit, but I didn’t want to put that in the headline – that Conan the Barbarian director John Milius had him doing during the making of that classic.
Schwarzenegger wrote (with thanks to Insider for sharing), “I learned to ride horses and camels and elephants. I learned how to jump from large rocks, how to climb and swing from long ropes, how to fall from a height. I basically went to another vocational school, this one for aspiring action heroes. Then on top of that, Milius had me doing all kinds of terrible shit. I crawled through rocks, take after take, until my forearms bled. I ran from wild dogs...

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter that covered various topics, Arnold Schwarzenegger briefly spoke about two big time franchises that are synonymous with his name: Terminator and Conan the Barbarian. He’s done with one. But not the other.
“The franchise is not done. I’m done,” Schwarzenegger tells THR when speaking about the long-running Terminator franchise that he recently returned to for 2019’s Dark Fate.
The actor continues, “I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator. Someone has to come up with a great idea. The Terminator was largely responsible for my success, so I always would look at it very fondly. The first three movies were great. Number four [Salvation] I was not in because I was governor. Then five [Genisys] and six [Dark Fate] didn’t close the deal as far as I’m concerned.

Amber Ruffin has a bone to pick with Marvel Comics.
On a recent episode of her late-night talk show, The Amber Ruffin Show, she called Marvel out over its “deeply offensive” depiction of the Princess Matoaka in the recently released King Conan #3, from writer Jason Aaron.
“We talk a lot on this show about how representation matters, but what if that representation is so deeply offensive that it’s worse than not being represented at all?” Ruffin asked. “I’ll explain in a segment called, ‘How Did We Get Here?'”
Ruffin went on to say that if the name Matoaka sounds familiar, that’s probably because it’s the birth name of the indigenous woman most of us know as Pocahontas. “Now, I know what you’re thinking—what a great opportunity to show a historic native woman for the complicated, resourceful, brave person that she was,” the host said.

Outside of his career-defining role as the Terminator and a trio of cameos in the Expendables franchise, Conan is the only character Arnold Schwarzenegger has played more than once, and even then he hasn’t thrown on the loincloth since 1984’s subpar sequel Conan the Destroyer despite regularly talking up the potential of a third installment ever since he left office as the Governor of California and returned to acting.
John Milius’ 1982 original remains a sword and sorcery camp classic, one that served as the springboard for Schwarzenegger’s ascent up the Hollywood A-list, but a third outing has remained firmly lodged in development hell. As recently as the summer of 2019, the action icon revealed that he’d spoken with Milius about King Conan, but when it was announced last year that Netflix had acquired the rights to the character and almost instantly placed a live-action TV show into development,...

Two years before he became a superstar thanks to The Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger scored the first breakout role of his career in John Milius’ Conan the Barbarian. The old school sword and sorcery movie was a huge hit at the box office and has gone on to enjoy a lasting reputation as a beloved cult classic.
A sequel followed in 1984 and for the last decade, rumors have been popping up every now and again that Schwarzenegger would finally get around to The Legend of Conan, the trilogy closing chapter that he’d always maintained was a possibility. In the meantime, we got a terrible remake starring Jason Momoa in 2011 that tanked at the box office, while Conan was also the star of two animated shows and a live-action series in the 1990s.

It’s no secret that Arnold Schwarzenegger is keen on returning to the role of Conan the Barbarian, having shown an interest in an Old Man Conan story as recently as February this year. Nothing really came of that, unfortunately, but apparently, Schwarzenegger met with the 1982 Conan the Barbarian movie director John Milius at Silicon Valley Comic-Con the other week, where they discussed the latter’s King Conan screenplay.
A third film in the Conan franchise, discounting his appearance in Red Sonja and the Jason Momoa reboot, has been around since the 1980s, and a King Conan script since the early 2000s. However, Schwarzenegger was unable to commit to it due to his political career. Posting a photo of himself on Instagram with Milius at the Con though, the actor admitted:
“Yes, I talked to him about his King Conan script”

Even though Arnold Schwarzenegger is at the ripe ol’ age of 69, he’s still very much a busy actor. Indeed, the Austrian-American superstar has been toiling away at this year’s highly anticipated Terminator: Dark Fate. The sequel finally sees him reuniting with both veteran filmmaker James Cameron, and his former co-star Linda Hamilton. However, that’s not to say that he’s finished with all his other iconic franchises. Case in point: the Conan The Barbarian series.
That’s right, Arnie has allegedly been trying his best to get a sequel to 1982’s Conan The Barbarian and 1984’s Conan The Destroyer off the ground. Back in 2016, The Austrian Oak insisted that a script had already been written. The project was tentatively named The Legend Of Conan or Conan The Conqueror and would see the Hollywood A-lister, “sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden,...

Say what you will about Arnold Schwarzenegger, but the man isn’t about to let go of his cinematic legacy anytime soon – for better or worse.
With a new Terminator movie on the horizon, in which he’s set to star opposite fellow series legend Linda Hamilton, Schwarzenegger fans will soon get their next dose of the Austrian Oak thanks to Tim Miller’s sci-fi reboot. But there’s another project that’s currently simmering on the fringes of development. We’ll give you a clue: it involves the legendary Conan, who first marched onto the big screen back in 1982, when John Milius was calling the shots from behind the lens.
Aquaman star Jason Momoa later provided a new spin on the classic Robert E. Howard character, though it seems Arnie is still crossing his fingers in the hope that Old Man Conan can get off the ground. Over on...

For fans of Conan the Barbarian, we’ve got an exciting update tonight.
After the planned film sequel starring Arnie seemingly fell through last year, we’re now learning that the property is headed to television instead, with a new show currently in development at Amazon. Coming to us from Colony co-creator Ryan Condal, Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik and Fargo exec producer Warren Littlefield, it’ll be titled Conan and will aim to “retell the classic character’s story via a return to his literary origins.”
Deadline’s report describes the show as follows:
Driven out of his tribal homelands, Conan wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.
That’s not much to go on, of course, but it’s still early, early days for this one and just knowing that the...

One of the film projects that I've been looking forward most forward to seeing get made is Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Legend of Conan. Everything That I've heard about the film since it was first announced has been awesome, and I believe that it would have been a cinematic masterpiece.
Today my dreams of seeing this movie have been destroyed. During a recent interview at EW with producer and screenwriter Chris Morgan, he was asked if there were any updates on the project and that's where he revealed that it's dead. He says:
"Not so much. That’s kind of a longer story. At the end of the day, the studio decided that they weren’t gonna make that. I gotta say, it’s honestly a heartbreak. I love that first movie so much, so much, it’s one of my favorite movies. We had Will Beall do a draft on [the Legend of Conan script]. He killed it.

1988 was a unique year in film history. For every Die Hard and Who Framed Roger Rabbit that debuted, we had odd films like Earth Girls Are Easy, Cocktail, and the comedy Twins, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito who play brothers who were separated at birth. For some reason the movie made over $200 Million Dollars that year (adjusted for inflation.) Keep in mind that Die Hard made only $174 Million Dollars that year (adjusted for inflation.) and you get a sense that all was not right with the world in the latter half of the 1980's.
Yahoo Movies is reporting that there is movement in the long in production sequel to that film which would be called Triplets. Eddie Murphy would star along with Arnold and DeVito playing their other long lost brother. According to Arnold...

Arnold Schwarzenegger now looks highly unlikely to reprise the role of Conan one last time...
This is unfortunate. For the last few years, it looked like we might finally get Conan 3, known as The Legend of Conan or Conan the Conqueror, with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning for one last time with the sword, detailing his fate as King that was glimpsed at the end of Conan The Barbarian. As recently as last year, Arnold himself made it sound like this movie was all but a sure thing.
But now Chris Morgan, who was set to produce the film, is making it sound far less likely. "At the end of the day, the studio decided that they weren’t gonna make that," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I gotta say, it’s honestly a heartbreak. I love that first movie so much, so much, it’s one of my favorite movies.

Filmmakers often plan ahead, and many of the movies which come out each year are designed to be part of a multi-film series. However, it doesn’t always work out that way. Sometimes, the first sequel bombs and the third movie never gets made. Here are 6 short movie franchises that remained unfinished.
There have been many successful franchises over the years. Franchises are a very hot thing right now. However, for every Star Wars, Dark Knight or Captain America franchise, there is a failed film series. Often these intended series will start off with an excellent movie but the second film will derail any plans for a third movie or beyond.
In no particular order, here are six franchises that never got past a second film.
Conan: Arnold Schwarzenegger starred as Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian warrior Conan in 1982’s Conan the Barbarian, which was a box office hit.

The Legend of Conan has been in development since 2012 with producer Chris Morgan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I thought for sure by now the movie would have been shot and released, but that's obviously not how things played out. I've heard so many great things about the story, tone, and setting, and I really hope that one day the movie actually gets made. I'm not sure why it's taking so damn long, but /Film recently caught up with co-writer Will Beall who revealed how the film would open, saying:
“It opens with this [hand on the chin]. It’s where you have to. It’s the sequel that we were promised and never got. I’m 11 when my father took me to see Conan the Barbarian which you should never take an 11-year-old kid to. It was a life changing thing. It’s an unbelievable movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s next movie project? That’d be Why We’re Killing Gunther, with Cobie Smulders…
Arnold Schwarzenegger looks no closer to making The Legend Of Conan or Triplets from where we’re sitting, as whilst those two projects stumble along in limbo, he’s taking on a different action comedy instead.
Taran Killam, of Saturday Night Live fame, is making his directorial debut with Why We’re Killing Gunther, based on a screenplay that he wrote himself. He’s also going to co-star in the film along with The Avengers’ Cobie Smulders, and Arnold Schwarzenegger fits in as Gunther, described as ‘the world’s greatest hitman’.
It’ll be Arnie’s first full-on comedy role since 1996’s Junior, and production on Why We’re Killing Gunther is set to kick off this June. We’d expect a release next year.

One of the things I enjoyed most from my entire time at Ain't It Cool News was when we reached story #10,000 and I decided to do something special. I wrote a piece about what was at that point my most anticipated potential project, a collaboration between the Wachowskis and John Milius, King Conan: Crown Of Iron, a sequel to what I still consider one of the best films Arnold Schwarzenegger ever made. That was still before Schwarzenegger disappeared into political office for a while, and well before his comeback. So far, I've enjoyed some of the original films he's done since his return like The Last Stand and Sabotage, but I can't say I'm enjoying his sequel work. I thought Terminator Genisys was genuinely dire, and I don't like any of the Expendables movies. I hate the idea of Triplets, which Josh Gad is writing and which sounds like it's still in development.

The Legend Of Conan is now Conan The Conqueror, it seems. And the script is done...

That said, it's been a long, long time now since Arnold Schwarzenegger's name equated to box office gold, and we suspect that may have something to do with how long the mooted new Conan film is taking to get here.
Originally known as The Legend Of Conan, the movie was expected to go into production once Arnie was done with Terminator. But as of yet, cameras have not been unpacked.
Schwarzenegger has actually been in the UK over the past week, for 'Experience With Arnold Schwarzenegger' events (help yourself) in Birmingham and Edinburgh. And according to The Arnold Fans, the Conan sequel question has come up.

Take another look @ actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Universal Pictures' "King Conan: The Legend Of Conan", now set for a November 2016 release, as the official sequel to director John Milius' 1982 feature "Conan The Barbarian":
Producer Fredrik Malmberg said the new film would "pick up 'Conan' where Arnold is now in his life.
"We will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story.
"I love the property of 'Conan' so much that I wouldn't touch it unless we came up with something worthy.
"We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan's 'Unforgiven'."
"The idea is that this takes place after Conan has been king.
"But this is the legend of Conan where he has been gone and people say, ‘Do you remember the good ol’ days when Conan was around?’ And now it’s time for him to come back.

Take another look @ actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Universal Pictures' "King Conan", set for a December 2015 release:
Producer Fredrik Malmberg said the new film would "pick up 'Conan' where Arnold is now in his life.
"We will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of 'Conan' so much that I wouldn't touch it unless we came up with something worthy.
"We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan's 'Unforgiven'."
"The idea is that this takes place after Conan has been king.
"But this is the legend of Conan where he has been gone and people say, ‘Do you remember the good ol’ days when Conan was around?’ And now it’s time for him to come back..."

After years in the works, we’ve heard recent rumblings of the long gestating The Legend of Conan, which will not only star franchise icon Arnold Schwarzenegger, be a direct sequel to Conan the Barbarian, and ignore all the other movies, but it could be the beginning of yet another new cinematic universe. Conan, and many other characters, is the brainchild of pulp author Robert E. Howard. Swedish producer Fredrick Malmberg has long championed the cause of bringing Conan back to the big screen—he even produced the Jason Momoa-starring 2011 reboot, as well as having his hands in Legend. According to Deadline, his new company, Cabinet Entertainment, has acquired the rights to all of Howard’s work, and he has big plans. He says: These days, it comes down to brands and characters and we are looking at long-term possibilities. We look at how Marvel played out ...

Arnold Schwarzenegger is more than happy to do a cinematic nostalgia tour. This summer he reboots in "Terminator Genisys," "Twins" sequel "Triplets" is in development, and in case you forgot, there's "The Legend Of Conan." At one point, it was promised that the movie would shoot before the end of 2013, and while that didn't happen, there are big plans with hopes for a new trilogy (obviously). Of course, Arnie is quite a bit older than he was in 1982 when "Conan The Barbarian" dropped, but the plan is to ignore the subsequent films, and for "The Legend Of Conan" to be straight up sequel. And writer Chris Morgan ("Fast Five," "Furious 6," "Furious 7") has some grand aspirations. "Our tone is a logical extension of the character established in the ’82 film…but 30 years later," he told The Arnold Fans. "When we meet him again, Conan has been many things over the course of his life — a.

Followers of Crom, rejoice! “Legend of Conan,” the follow-up to early Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle “Conan the Barbarian,” will bring back “at least three” characters from the original film, writer and producer Chris Morgan has revealed. While Schwarzenegger is already confirmed for the film, there is no word yet on who the other returning characters might be. Perhaps it will be Subotai, Conan’s archer companion from the original film played by Gerry Lopez, or even Thulsa Doom, the evil sorcerer played by James Earl Jones. See photos: 21 Movie Sequels That Took Forever to Hit the Big Screen Morgan also said the film.

If you've been waiting for an update on Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Legend Of Conan, I have some good news for you. Producer Fredrik Malmberg recently told The Arnold Fans that the script is done, and production could start as early as this fall, once Schwarzenegger is done promoting Terminator: Genisys. Malmberg also told the site that "Our marching orders from the studio were to create a film worthy as a successor to the 1982 film, which was pretty brutal."...

Wondering about the direction of The Legend Of Conan? "Think Unforgiven... with a sword-wielding barbarian"...
Plans remain afoot for a new Conan movie, one that ignores the recent Jason Momoa-headlined reboot in favour of getting Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the lead role for the third time. The new film, going under the title The Legend Of Conan, is being written by Chris Morgan (whose pen has been responsible for a fair few of the Fast & Furious movies). And in a new interview with The Arnold Fans, Morgan has been keen to get across that his Conan is going to take a different approach to the reboot.
"Our tone is a logical extenstion of the character established in the 82 film... but 30 years later. When we meet him again, Conan has been many things over the course of his life - a thief, a warrior, a pirate, a king, a legend...

Since Arnold Schwarzenegger started acting again, the one project that I've been most excited about is Legend of Conan, which will serve as a sequel to Conan the Barbarian. The last thing we heard about the film was that it would start shooting sometime this year.
Empire caught up with producer Chris Morgan, and during their discussion he gave an update on where Legend of Conan currently stands. He started off by saying, "I'm super excited! And Arnold is super excited too. It's the perfect movie for him, because it plays into his own journey."
That's definitely a good sign, and the movie is obviously still moving forward! Morgan goes on to say that the latest draft of the script comes from Will Beall, who is the same guy that wrote Gangster Squad. A lot of people didn't like Gangster Squad, but I actually kind of enjoyed it for its unintentional campiness.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the T-800 this year, but he's also slated to reprise another of his most iconic roles in the near future - Conan the Barbarian.
Chris Morgan, a producer on the upcoming "Legend of Conan," tells Empire that he can't wait to see the film go forward: "I'm super excited, and Arnold is super excited too. It's the perfect movie for him, because it plays into his own journey."
The film picks up on the ending of John Milius' 1982 original in which a now elderly King Conan takes on one final adventure. Morgan also confirmed that a new scribe has come onboard the currently in development project:
"Andrea Berloff ["Straight Outta Compton"] did a draft, and then we had Will [Beall, "Gangster Squad"] stepped on. I approached him early on in the process, but at the time he was unavailable and couldn't do it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's comeback has gone... well... it's certainly gone, hasn't it? The movies haven't really performed up to anybody's expectations. By the time Sabotage rolled around earlier this year, we started to wonder if he was even a leading man anymore. Well, clearly our opinion is moot, because Schwarzenegger still sees himself as a king. A King Conan, if you will. TheArnoldFans, a fan site for all things Schwarzenegger, recently caught up with King Conan producer Fredrik Malmberg and he claimed that it could be spring 2015 when Schwarzenegger once again crushes his enemies, sees them driven before him, and hears the lamentations of their women. Even though he’s one of the main influences behind the modern comic book film as we know it, David S. Goyer consistently seems less and less enamored with shepherding DC in configuring their vast universe of characters for the big screen. As his “Man of Steel” sequel, “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” tried to dominate the news yesterday with its title announcement, the focus turned instead to a more critical direction—Goyer’s misjudged comments regarding two DC superheroes, in particular, She-Hulk and Martian Manhunter. During a guest appearance (via Nerdist) on the screenwriting podcast Scriptnotes for their “Summer Superhero Spectacular," Goyer joined host Craig Mazin, Andrea Berloff (“King Conan”), Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) in discussing the upcoming slate of comic book films hitting theatres. His most puzzling moment came when Markus in conversation noted that She-Hulk “has the worst, most demeaning character name.
