Jay-Z's Tidal X concert at Brooklyn's Barclays Center to benefit those impacted by the recent string of natural disasters -- including Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, as well as the Mexico earthquakes -- was sadly the site of an alleged assault that left a security guard bloodied.
“A complaint report for an assault was made inside 620 Atlantic Avenue last night," the NYPD tells Et in a statement. "Security ejected two people from the stadium, when one of them punched the security guard causing a laceration to his forehead. That suspect fled on foot. The victim was taken to Lutheran Hospital by Ems in stable condition."

The user who uploaded the photo said it caused some chuckles at the office, and how could it not? You’re looking at Dogception right here.

It’s been a long time coming, but Brooklyn’s Alamo Drafthouse finally opens for business on October 28. On Monday, IndieWire got a sneak peek of the new dine-in cinema, whose opening was originally scheduled for this past summer before being delayed due to a fire alarm control panel that exploded. Everything about the new location, from the gourmet culinary offerings to the diverse programming, suggest that the Austin, Texas-based chain’s first New York City venue is going to be a big hit with moviegoers.

For years now, New York’s film community has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of its very own Alamo Drafthouse, the vibrant independent theater chain based in Austin. And now, it seems, it may actually happen. But when? “Soon,” said founder and CEO Tim League during a discussion at Ifp’s Made in New York Media Center on Tuesday.

While the Brooklyn venue was expected to arrive months ago, League explained that the delay had been caused by a fire alarm control panel that somebody accidentally blew up. “We’re ready to go — the projectors have all been tested and it’s very nice looking inside.” The 25th location for the chain will have seven screens and is located at 445 Gold Street, near the Atlantic Avenue terminal in Brooklyn.

Legende and Parts & Labor scripts among development projects at Mia market.

In the Ncn strand, La Vie En Rose producer Goldman of Paris-based Legende is in development on English-language Us-set drama Mustang from actress and writer-director Laure de Clermont-Tonnere (Girafada), director of well-received shorts Rabbit and Atlantic Avenue.

In terms of support, they got a taste for what the Sundance Institute had to offer in concretizing aspects of their respective screenplays and in terms of scenery, they’ll need to pack significantly less heavier suitcases. Nia DaCosta (Little Woods), Olivia Newman (First Match), Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (pictured above) (Mustang) & Yung Chang (Eggplant), Christopher Makoto Yogi (I Was A Simple Man), Mark Kindred (Rogue) and trio Brent Green, Michael McGinley and Thyra Heder‘s untitled project are technically moving onto the next round working on the directing portion of their projects at the June Directors and Screenwriters Labs. they’ll be joined by The Imposter helmer Bart Layton‘s narrative debut, American Animals. The Screenwriters Lab attendees are Dan Krauss‘ docu-to-feature adaptation of The Kill Team, Boots Riley‘s Sorry to Bother You, Frances Bodomo, Mariam Bakacho Khatchvani and Irakli Solomanashvili‘s Afronauts, and finally Fernando Coimbra‘s The...

Eliza Hittman (was love at first sight for her directorial debut It Felt Like Love) and Yung Chang (a docu-helmer best known for the award-winning portrait of modern China in Up the Yangtze) are just two of the dozen folks/projects invited to the upcoming Sundance Institute 2015 January Screenwriters Lab. The labs work as a testing ground of sorts, with Lab Director Ilyse McKimmie seeing to it that the screenwriters are mentored by filmmaking professionals. I’d wager that a good portion of these projects on paper eventually make it onto the big screen (say about 65 to 70 percent) and about 35-40 percent break into the actual Sundance Film Fest. Not unlike her debut picture, Hittman’s potential sophomore pic Beach Rats features NYC borough backdrop and via a teenage vantage point but is sure to stir the pot with tad bit more destruction. After Up the Yangtze, China Heavyweight, and The Fruit Hunters,...

This story first appeared in the April 4 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. No offense intended -- truly -- but you can smell Pitbull from a mile away. It's four days before New Year's Day 2014, and the Cuban-American rapper is performing a concert at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. As showtime nears, hundreds emerge from the subway into a fragrant cloud. There, at the chaotic, multicultural crossroads of Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush, a small army of perfume pushers hand out samples of Pitbull Man and Pitbull Woman, which retail for $30 for a 1 oz. bottle. The scent business is but one

For short films, the Tribeca Film Festival is a must. Winning the award for Narrative Short or Best Documentary Short automatically qualifies a film for the Academy Awards. Their track record isn’t too bad either. Shawn Christensen’s Curfew had its New York premiere at the Festival and went on to win the Academy Award.
This year, Tribeca will show 60 short films in eight categories, from a variety of new and returning directors (including Christensen with Grandma’s Not A Toaster), and featuring performances from a number of Hollywood stars. Elijah Wood plays a standup comic who attempts a daring set in Setup,...
