A Nice Movie--for a Change
This is a movie about faith and family. It shows how people can overcome adversity through hard work and resourcefulness when they support each other. The family finds strength thru prayer, faith and love. One of the many messages in the movie is that God sometimes works his miracles thru other people, allowing them to step up and be kind and selfless. However, pride and cynicism can get in the way of seeing life's many miracles.
I've skimmed some of the other comments and noticed that the negative ones are from people that were expecting the movie to praise Jesus constantly. It doesn't. If you need to hear Jesus' name mentioned often, then you will be disappointed. However, it's obvious that the main characters in the movie believe in God and pray to Jesus (probably several times a day). Their Christian faith is simple and deep. It defines them.
To me, the movie showed how faith and prayer can help guide people thru hardship. But it's important to me that the family didn't just pray and expect God/Jesus to solve their problems. They prayed for strength, for help, but they also worked hard to help themselves. Rebecca had raw talent, but needed to develop it, and more help to become a professional--and then needed courage to not give up.
Life isn't easy, but perhaps God will help those who first help themselves.
I'm not a Christian, but I enjoyed this film and have suggested it to my friends.
