- In the not to distant future the globe has warmed and the economy has collapsed. James fleet plays his usual buffoon self, and James Bolam plays his usual cantankerous old geezer. In this pilot, where floods keep depositing bodies and the local war Lord (who is a lady) goes round pinching other girls boy friends, tries to get our hero (Fleet) to teach her new "friend" to read. This was a little hit and miss, but with Andy Hamilton at the tiller, and Sanjeev Bhaskar as the neighbour, I have hopes that it will get better.—D J Cairns
- An horrific vision of a dystopian Britain lies just around the corner. Here, thanks to global warming much of the coast-line has been eroded - and all of Holland, leading to an influx of Dutch refugees. Here,on the Isle of Norwich live Edward Pilch, his recalcitrant daughter Kia and grumpy father-in-law Mick. Following Tony Blair's assassination law and order have broken down, along with electricity so that laptops are used to squash flies and appliances are generated by exercise bikes. Batteries are gold dust - though Mick lost the family's supply in a dog-fight - and dentistry is performed at home via an instruction tape. The local council is represented by the fearsome Area Controller Big Delia, who pays a visit to the Pilches. However she is not there out of hostility - she wants Edward to teach her to read and write because she is illiterate.—don @ minifie-1
