Exclusive: Veteran character actor Titus Welliver is getting his due, landing his first series lead role. I’ve learned that the Lost and Sons Of Anarchy alum has been tapped to play the title character in Amazon’s first drama pilot Bosch, a police procedural based on Michael Connelly‘s novels about Harry Bosch (Welliver), a veteran police homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. The pilot was written by Connelly and Treme co-creator Eric Overmeyer, who are executive producing with Fabrik’s Henrik Bastin and Mikkel Bondesen. Bosch has been at the center of or featured in 20 novels by Connelly over the past two decades. Steve Talley (Friend Me, Pretty Little Liars) has been cast opposite Tracy Morgan in the FX comedy pilot Death Pact, directed by Randall Einhorn. From writer-creators Rob Long and Tad Safran and producers Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Death Pact has Morgan playing a formerly lazy,...

It doesn't look like viewers will ever get to see Friend Me. CBS has decided to shelve the comedy series and won't be airing the produced episodes.
Co-created by Ajay Sahgal and Alan Kirschenbaum, Friend Me revolves around two young best friends (Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicholas Braun) who move from Indiana to Los Angeles to work for Groupon. While one wants to recreate himself in the big city, the other wants to hold onto his hometown roots and relationships. Others in the cast include Amanda Lund, Dan Ahdoot, Parvesh Cheena, and Steve Talley.
The sitcom was ordered to series in May 2012 and was expected to debut mid-season. Kirschenbaum tragically took his own life in October 2012 and the network opted not to include the show in their mid-season plans in December.

Alan Kirschenbaum, a veteran comedy writer and producer who co-created the long-running sitcom "Yes, Dear," died Friday night (Oct. 26) in an apparent suicide, according to several reports. He was 51.
Kirschenbaum's most recent work was the CBS comedy "Friend Me," which is due for a midseason premiere. His TV credits also include "Dear John," "Coach" and "Raising Hope," among others.
His death has brought an outpouring of emotion from friends and colleagues in the business. CBS just issued a statement about the death of comedy writer-producer Alan Kirschenbaum. He has a long history at CBS where he was considered family. Kirschenbaum co-created two comedy series for the network, Yes, Dear and the upcoming Friend Me, as well as the 2007 pilot Fugly. He also worked on the CBS comedies Everybody Loves Raymond, Center Of The Universe and Accidentally On Purpose. “We are stunned and devastated to hear the news this morning of Alan’s passing. We have lost a long-time colleague, a valued friend and truly one of the most well liked individuals in our midst. We will remember a gifted and successful comedy writer/producer who shared generously of his time beyond his show duties to help the network and studio in a variety of ways; a kind and gentle man; and a warm and witty conversationalist who could always be seen chatting up many...

Exclusive: CBS is adding some estrogen to midseason buddy comedy Friend Me with the introduction of a new regular female character to be played by Amanda Lund. Looks like "SNL" may be planning on bringing Chicago comedians Aidy Bryant and Tim Robinson on board for next week's season premiere.
Ever since Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott officially left "Saturday Night Live" at the end of last season, rumors have swirled that the NBC sketch show would add a few new supporting players to fill out the cast. On Friday afternoon, comedy insider blog The Comic's Comic cited multiple sources claiming that two of those additions will be Bryant and Robinson, who both hail from Chicago's sketch and improv scene.
The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline have also verified that "SNL" is nearing a deal with the two performers.
While NBC did not return calls about the news, the timing of the rumor points to its likely accuracy. "SNL" producers have been scouting for talent throughout the country this summer in preparation of next week's season premiere,...

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.
With CBS leading in viewers by the widest margin of any network in 23 years, the network has little need to refresh its line-up this year - especially with last season's successes like "2 Broke Girls" and "Persons of Interest" adding to a solid run of hits in recent years.
Yet it's not resting on its laurels, ordering six new shows and shifting four existing shows around the schedule to shore up its weak points, in the process teaming its two biggest comedies "Big Bang Theory" and "Two and a Half Men" on the one night.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen include cop drama "The Widow Detective", various comedies about twenty...

Jonny Lee Miller will get his chance to make a mark in the crowded Sherlock Holmes market. On Sunday (May 13), CBS announced plans to pick up the drama "Elementary" -- which transplants Holmes to Brooklyn and morphs his trusty sidekick Watson into Lucy Liu. The network also put in orders for three other dramas, two comedies and a new reality show from Mark Burnett.

CBS pilot verdicts are in: Four dramas, two comedies — including a Sherlock Holmes detective series and sitcom about working at Groupon. The network also picked up a reality show from Mark Burnett.
CBS has given a half-dozen scripted projects series orders for next season, starting with Elementary, a modern-day New York City-based drama series that’s sounded like a no-brainer for the network’s brand since it was first developed. Jonny Lee Miller plays Sherlock, Lucy Liu gives a feminine twist to Watson. Aidan Quinn co-stars.

Chicka Chicka yeah! McLovin is heading to a TV near you. (Terrifying?)
Superbad actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse has been cast in a CBS pilot, playing a Groupon employee in the comedy Friend Me.
The pilot, from Raising Hope writer Alan Kirschenbaum and Ajay Sahgal, centers around a pair of Indiana natives (Mintz-Plasse and 10 Thing I Hate About You series actor Nicholas Braun) who move to Los Angeles and work for Groupon. It will mark the first TV lead role for Mintz-Plasse.

Be prepared: McLovin is going to try to sell you coupons for discounted dance lessons and facials. "Superbad" actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse will play a Groupon employee in the CBS comedy pilot "Friend Me." A rep for the "Superbad" scene stealer says he will co-star in "Friend Me," about a pair of twentysomethings who move from their Indiana hometown to Los Angeles, where they work for Groupon. "10 Things I Hate About You" star Nicholas Braun will play Mintz-Plasse's Groupon buddy. Alan Kirschenbaum and Ajay Sahgal are writing and producing the comedy. Also read:...

With big screen funny folks like Jason Segel and Kat Dennings scoring big hits on TV with "How I Met Your Mother" and "2 Broke Girls," another comic actor is making the small screen leap. Christopher Mintz-Plasse will take the lead in the new CBS comedy "Friend Me." Penned by Alan Kirschenbaum ("Raising Hope") and Ajay Sahgal, the show will center on two friends, Evan (Mintz-Plasse) and Rob (Nicholas Braun of "Red State" fame), who move from Indiana to L.A. to work for GroupOn. That still doesn't explain why it's called "Friend Me" but maybe Facebook didn't clear their brand for the show. Sounds like it's right in the geeky wheelhouse that has made "The Big Bang Theory" such a smash hit, so this has potential. The series is currently at the pilot stage. [Deadline]
Questions also abound for a series based on "Angry Birds," the cell phone game app created by Rovio.
