Present Tense is yet another interesting and well made film from Turkey and an impressive directing debut for Belmin Soylemez.
Mina is a single woman dreaming of fleeing her lonely existence for greener pastures in USA. To get there she needs money, visa and other documents which she can only get by finding employment. She lies her way into a job reading fortunes from coffee cups in a café. She is so believable and expressive (thanks to the beautiful acting of Sanem Oge) that she soon finds plenty of customers. Meanwhile her situation becomes complicated by the café owner falling in love with her and acts of jealousy by the other fortune teller at the café.
Present Tense creates a very realistic atmosphere packed with believable characters. Great acting and cinematography further enhance this pleasant film.
