Warning: Spoilers
"What's So Funny About Peas, Love and Understanding?" finally gave us some real world consequences and an extremely relatable scenario wrapped up in traditional TV fashion.

Darlene was tasked with making a decision between what would be best for her and what would be best for Mark, a problem far too many parents face. It was heartbreaking, but she opted to try and help her son get a leg up.

There is no franchise that has painted lower America better the last few decades than Roseanne/The Conners and that was on display here. This is certainly not the kind of story you would see on a show like Succession.

Not So Sure About Messaging Here...

This is mostly regarding the decision Darlene made for Mark's education. I get the message about how expensive college tuition is today, as well as how parents throughout history have made tough sacrifices for their children, but I feel like this didn't have to be the black & white decision it was. Ruling out community college was odd reasoning as it ruled out how helpful it really can be, as well as teach Mark about having to make his own tough decisions. I also feel like most parents out there would not have made the decision Darlene did, so I'm not sure how it was supposed to be considered smart as they portrayed it.

Math all wrong

Warning: Spoilers
Darlene is considering quiting a manager position, which must pay more than 80k. Why? So she can become a lunch lady at a college to get Mark free tuition. The lunch lady job has to pay more like 30k a year. That's a 50k difference. (I'm guessing at the numbers but they seem about right.) So it doesn't make sense for her to switch to the lunch lady job for free tuition because she would have had enough money to pay for the tuition with her manager job.

That's not to mention scholarships and loans that Mark would be able to get. There's no reason he'd have to pay for the complete tuition and room and board.

So, what I'm saying is this story makes no sense and the writers should be ashamed.
