Nice little scene but the simplicity of it and the performances limit it a bit

When Uzoma gets into a playground scuffle he takes his little brother Chize and heads home to play games just the two of them. One game involves Chize pretending to hang from a rope so Uzoma can rescue him – a game which gets swift correction from their father. Later Uzoma continues to suggest and coerce his little brother into dangerous acts which he does not want to do.

This is a decent little short film from Nigeria although it must be said that not too much happens during it. Two brothers get into trouble in a familiar scene where the elder leads the younger into situations he is not ready for; there is some detail here and some nice color around the edges but as a narrative it is slight and needs you to be drawn into the scene by the performances and characters. Unfortunately for me the performances were a limiting factor as, although reasonably good at times, they were a bit unnatural when called upon to "act" and you can see when people are "acting" rather than just being characters. It is hard to describe but the dialogue always sounds like dialogue – OK they are all untrained actors I'm sure, but they don't deliver as must have been hoped. The camera gets in and around them well although the look of the film is also a bit cheaper than I would have liked.

It is still a nice scene to watch but the narrative is only OK, it goes on for a touch longer than it needed to and ultimately the performances are not as natural and as engaging as perhaps would have been better.
