New data from Bango shows that Peacock could be in for a big wave of new signups this summer.
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris promise to be one of the biggest sporting spectaculars in recent memory and NBCUniversal’s coverage of the games will reflect that. The longtime Olympics broadcaster has promised that in addition to its flagship coverage on NBC, for the first time ever, every single event will be available to watch live on NBCU’s streaming service Peacock. Lest there be any doubt that audiences will respond to this availability, a new report from Bango shows that a significant portion of viewers plan to subscribe to a new streaming service specifically to watch the Olympics this summer.
Key Details: Bango found that 29% of viewers will subscribe to a new streamer to watch the games, and the number rises to 66% among current sports streaming customers. Sports fans are...

Data from Pch Insights shows that watching the NFL on streaming is more popular than watching the NBA, MLB or NHL on TV.
NFL football can be found in more places than ever, nowadays. Viewers can still find the bulk of the league’s games on CBS and Fox on Sunday afternoons, but cord-cutters can also see Sunday afternoon CBS games on Paramount+, watch “Thursday Night Football” on Prime Video, and stream “Sunday Night Football” on Peacock. In 2023, audiences had to grapple with a new wrinkle in NFL broadcasting: streaming-exclusive regular season and Wild Card games on Peacock, the latter of which caused no end of fan discontent on social media platforms. But new data released in a survey by Pch Insights has bad news for NFL fans who don’t want to see streaming-exclusive games continue, as viewers watch streaming NFL games more often than basically any other sport.

General Hospital spoilers report that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) was hoping to come home and settle his affairs after he revealed he was still alive to Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna).
One might think that saving Dante’s life would be enough to convince Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) that Jason is still on his side, but he can’t seem to get over the betrayal of Jason pretending to be dead these last two years.
Moreover, him becoming an informant for the FBI crossed a line these two former best friends may not ever be able to bounce back from. Will Sonny’s willingness to cross Jason — at the same time that Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) is standing by him — make the decision any easier for Jason when he has to choose between them?

Peacock’s deal with WWE for events like Wrestlemania expires in 2026, and Netflix or another streamer could snatch them up.
The hype of The Rock’s return and Cody Rhodes finishing the story delivered for WWE over the weekend. The annual Wrestlemania extravaganza is always a big audience draw — both in person and on TV — and this year’s Wrestlemania Xl demonstrated the event’s popularity once again by drawing the biggest ratings of any live entertainment program in the history of Peacock. The numbers are impressive, but they do bring the question of what will happen to live WWE events after 2026 to mind, as the wrestling promotion’s deal with Peacock expires.
Wrestlemania saw 1.3 billion total minutes streamed across both nights on Peacock. WWE’s YouTube channel drew a record-setting 67 million+ views on Sunday, April 7. Netflix recently acquired rights to WWE’s “Raw,” and could make a play for events like Wrestlemania next.

A Wheel of Fortune contestant overcame the odds on Wednesday night (March 27) in spite of a “dumb rule” costing her a big chunk of money and a trip early in the episode. Many fans were furious about what happened and felt she was cheated out of a big win. The contestant in question was Emma Wan, a recently engaged former half-marathon runner from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wan got out to a hot start, picking up the Wildcard Wedge ahead of the Express Round, where she attempted to solve a seven-word “Phrase” puzzle. Wan answered the first part of the puzzle perfectly, but she took a pause in the middle before figuring out the rest. “Can’t See The Forest… Oh shoot,” she said before adding, “For The Trees.” Unfortunately for Wan, she wasn’t awarded the puzzle, as host Pat Sajak told her, “I’m getting a no from everybody,” referring to the producers’ decision.

Jeopardy!‘s Champions Wildcard tournament continues to bring the drama, as Thursday’s (February 15) episode saw another surprise victory and a highly contentious Final Jeopardy triple-stumper. Battling it out for the final spot in the semi-finals were returning Season 39 champions David Bederman, an attorney from Los Angeles, California, James Tyler, a senior editor from Blandon, Pennsylvania, and Diandra D’Alessio, a technical writer from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Bederman was the likely frontrunner heading into the episode, having the best stats from his previous Jeopardy! stint, where he walked away with $52,802. But, as the Wildcard competition has proven over and over again, anything can happen in this game. D’Alessio proved to be the surprise factor in Thursday’s game, coming out of the blocks hot with 12 correct answers. By the end of the first round, she held a $3,000 lead over her two opponents. The Montreal native continued to dominate in Double Jeopardy,...

The new streaming service has left important questions in the mind of cable providers, such as contract issues, price, and more.
As sports fans try to determine whether or not they’ll have room in their budget for the new joint venture sports streamer on the way from Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery, sports leagues and cable providers have plenty of questions about the service. Comcast is particularly confused as it is not only a channel owner with extensive sports rights via NBCUniversal, but also the owner of the largest pay-tv provider in the country, meaning that it has significant contracts with all three of the media entities involved in the Jv. However, it appears that Comcast was left in the dark about the forthcoming streamer until it was officially announced. Super Bowl Lviii drew 123.4 million viewers according to CBS, and was the most-streamed Super Bowl in the history of the game.
While Super Bowl Lviii may have been something of a snooze for the first three quarters, the fourth quarter of the game and overtime were more than enough to make for a compelling game overall. Streaming is undoubtedly the future of sports broadcasting, but the NFL will only fully embrace it when the money makes sense.
For all of the discussion following Sunday night’s Super Bowl centering on the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, Andy Ried, Travis Kelce, and — of course — Taylor Swift, the real winner of this season’s NFL playoffs might be streaming services. On the heels of the league’s first-ever streaming-exclusive playoff game on Peacock, ahead of Super Bowl Lviii, The Wall Street Journal reported that Prime Video will get into the playoff picture next season with an exclusive game of its own.
Key Points: Prime Video will reportedly host the NFL’s 2025 streaming-exclusive playoff game. Amazon declined the opportunity to broadcast the 2024 Wild Card game that aired on Peacock. Despite additional streaming-exclusive games, the NFL will only fully embrace streaming when the money is right. 30-Day Free Trial $8.99+ / month amazon.com

Peacock Gained Millions of Customers During Exclusive NFL Wild Card Game, But How Does it Keep Them?
NBCUniversal executives acknowledge that retaining customers is the next challenge for the service, which is building scale steadily.
Despite all of the progress that Peacock has made over the past year, the streamer still has a ways to go in order to achieve the all-important status of being profitable. Comcast execs did some more crowing about Peacock’s landmark AFC Wild Card game this month and said it drove paid signups to the streaming service. They declined to specify how many new customers came aboard but said they’re focused on retaining those — and all — subscribers and scaling up the streamer, which passed $1 billion in revenue and hit 31 million subscribers last quarter.
Losses of $845 million were narrowed, and peaked in 2023, but, in any case, the company isn’t stressing about that or about content spending — a bit of different playbook from other traditional media companies who have been pushing profitability over sub growth for the past year and a half. Comcast is bigger, more diversified and has the strongest balance sheet of the group. It has a massive “connectivity” business with cable, broadband and wireless.

According to Antenna, Peacock grew by 2.8 million subscribers over the Wild Card weekend which saw it stream the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs game.
NBCUniversal definitely ruffled the feathers of NFL fans by putting one of the two Wild Card games it held the rights to in the 2023-24 NFL playoffs exclusively on Peacock for national audiences. The social media reaction from fans was one of puzzlement and annoyance, but new data released by Antenna shows that despite the gripes, audiences followed the game to Peacock to such an extent that the service broke the record for the largest single subscriber-acquisition moment ever measured in streaming history.

NBCUniversal’s Peacock deal to exclusively stream the NFL’s AFC Wild Card matchup between the Kansas City Chief and the Miami Dolphins delivered an end-zone spiking Td for the streamer, according to new data.
NBCU already claimed the Jan. 13 playoff game was the biggest live-streamed event in U.S. history — delivering an average audience of 23 million viewers. Per the media company, the Chiefs-Dolphins livestream accounted for 30% of internet traffic during the game. Fans shouldn’t expect the league to make any big moves to quickly expand its streaming footprint, but more exclusive games are likely.
The fans grumbled and complained about an NFL Wild Card game that was exclusively available on Peacock; why was the NFL forcing them to subscribe to a new streaming service to watch a playoff game that had always been free before? Despite those objections, fans followed the game to Peacock, resulting in record viewership for the service and ratings that bested the 2023 Wild Card game that aired on broadcast TV in the same timeslot. Hans Schroeder, the EVP and COO of NFL Media, said that the league is incredibly pleased with the viewership results of the game, which is bad news for fans who are not looking forward to more streaming-exclusive games in the future.

The NFL playoffs are here! A total of 14 teams are still in the hunt for a trip to Las Vegas and Super Bowl Lviii, and fans will be able to tune in and watch games on ABC/ESPN, Fox and NBC as those teams battle it out to see who will advance.
Peacock will simulcast all playoff games slated to appear on NBC during the 2024 NFL playoffs. It will also get an exclusive game during Wild Card weekend, featuring the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. The fourth quarter of the game will be offered ad-free, and only fans in the Miami and Kansas City markets will be able to see the game on linear NBC. Everyone else will have to watch on Peacock!
When taking a step back, however, users will note that Peacock only carries a tiny fraction of the total number of NFL playoff games this year.

NFL Sunday Ticket moved to YouTube TV this past offseason. Does that mean fans can watch NFL playoff games on the service now?
NFL fans who don’t know that the league’s out-of-market games package NFL Sunday Ticket has moved to YouTube TV must be lucky enough to enjoy their favorite team on local, in-market channels. NFL Sunday Ticket saw mixed results in its first season on YouTube TV, but it is locked in as the home of the service until the 2029-30 season at least.

The Dallas Cowboys’ escape with a 20-19 victory over the Detroit Lions on Saturday on a special weekend edition of ESPN’s Monday Night Football drew 25.7 million viewers, the network said Monday citing Nielsen fast nationals.
The Cowboys’ home victory in a battle of two postseason-bound NFL teams joined previous 2023 Mnf games Eagles-Chiefs on November 22 and Ravens-49ers on Christmas Day as the three most-watched Mnf games since 1997.
The 2023 Monday Night Football season is now officially the most-watched Mnf season of the ESPN era, which began in 2006. The 20 games in 2023 averaged 17.1 million viewers, up 33% year-over-year.
The Cowboys-Lions game went down to the wire, with Detroit ultimately unable to score on a 2-point conversion late in the fourth quarter that would have given it the lead. With the close game, viewership averaged more than 27 million during much of the second half, Nielsen said.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the December 18 episode of Jeopardy!] The contestants of game two of the finals of Champions Wildcard may have gotten one of the Daily Double questions wrong in the December 18 episode of Jeopardy! but fans feel like they should have been harder at this point in a tournament. Gary Hollis, a chemistry professor from Roanoke, Virginia, Tyler Vandenberg, a Marine officer currently serving in Stuttgart, Germany, and Yungsheng Wang, a deputy public defender originally from Lafayette, Louisiana faced off for the second of the two-game total final. And as Ken Jennings (now the sole host of the syndicated series) noted, “We have seen on more than one occasion that having the lead at the end of Game 1 does not necessarily indicate who will come out ahead in the end.” Such was the case here, with Yungsheng, the only one to get the Final Jeopardy answer, walking away as ...

Jeopardy!’s long-anticipated 2023 Tournament of Champions (Toc) is almost here, and Ken Jennings has been surprising former three-day champions with invites to participate. But the show host acted all mean at first, teasing the contestants that he had bad news for them. You can see how things unfolded in a series of video clips below. The Toc was delayed this year due to this summer’s WGA strike; in the meantime, Jeopardy! has been airing tournaments such as Second Chance and Champions Wildcard featuring former contestants and recycled clues. The Season 39 post-season editions of Second Chance and Wildcard are scheduled to start soon in the lead-up to Toc. Eight winners from both sets of Wildcard competitions will qualify for the Toc, which will kick off in early 2024 (likely the end of February). They will join super champs Cris Pannullo and Ray Lalonde, as well as fan favorites like Ben Chan,...

The Jeopardy! Champions Wildcard continued on Monday, December 4, as three more brief champions from Seasons 37 and 38 returned to the Alex Trebek stage for another shot at glory. However, one question proved particularly tricky for one of the three returning champs. In the Double Jeopardy round, graduate student and historian Kristen Thomas-McGill landed on the game’s final Daily Double, which happened to be a video clue under the “A Bird In The Hand” category. The screen showed a brown, grey, and white bird perched on a person’s arm as host Ken Jennings read the clue, “The type of hawk seen here is found in the name of this olden occupation of the guy holding it.” Thomas-McGill, who was in second place with $6,800, wagered $3,000 and gave the name of the bird, “Falcon.” This was deemed incorrect, as Jennings was looking for the name of the profession, “Falconer,” and not the bird itself.

Jeopardy! is still in the midst of its tournament season, which was extended due to the recent WGA strikes, and some fans are becoming increasingly frustrated as they await the return of regular episodes with brand-new contestants. And it’s looking certain that it won’t be until April 2024 that the show returns to normal! The long-running game show is currently airing a Champions Wildcard tournament, which features brief winners from Seasons 37 and 38 competing to earn a spot in the Tournament of Champions. Before the Wildcard competition, the show aired a Second Chance tournament featuring non-winners from Season 37. Wildcard is expected to wrap up on December 18, but the tournaments don’t end there. The show will then move into its originally scheduled post-season tournaments, including another Second Chance tournament, this time for Season 39 non-winners, and a Champions Wildcard for brief Season 39 winners. This will be followed by the 2023 Tournament of Champions,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the November 6 episode of Jeopardy!] The last finalist for the Jeopardy! Champions Wildcard has been found. However, the last of the three semifinal games could have easily ended much differently due to the winner’s wager during Final Jeopardy. Brian Adams, a retired public educator from Big Bear Lake, California, Jilana Cotter, a senior data analyst from Dade City, Florida, and Dave Pai, a field application scientist originally from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania faced off in the November 6 episode, with Jilana just a bit ahead going into the final round. She had $11,500 to Dave’s $11,200, with Brian in third with $5,200. The clue in “Music & Literature” read: “John Steinbeck called this ‘one of the great songs of the world’ & wanted the music & lyrics printed in one of his novels.” The answer was “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and only Jilana was correct, adding $10,900. Jeopardy!‘s Champions Wildcard continues as host Ken Jennings welcomes back returning competitors Tony Freitas, Mason Maggio, and Yoshie Hill to the Alex Trebek stage in the October 26 game. But the game was more than a second chance for one player as Yoshie recalled her original appearance on the fan-favorite game show back in 2020. “Speaking of Jeopardy! distinctions, you were the champion on the very last game hosted by Alex Trebek,” Jennings pointed out when it was time for competitors to share anecdotes with the audience. “Well, actually, I was the loser that day,” she clarifies, but she was the returning champion from the day prior. “So, I was a two-time champion,” she notes, adding she had “Come back for my third game but I lost on a stupid bet on Final Jeopardy!” “But little did we know that that was actually going to be Alex’s last show,” she continues.

Exclusive: New Europe Film Sales has boarded international sales on Northern Irish director Aislinn Clarke’s second feature Fréwaka ahead of the AFM, where it will unveil first footage.
The Irish and English-language production follows Clarke’s 2018 found footage horror The Devil’s Doorway, which was acquired by IFC for the U.S.
Billed as the first ever Irish-language horror, Fréwaka revolves around care worker Shoo, who is haunted by a personal tragedy.
Shoo is sent to a remote village to care for an agoraphobic woman, who fears both the neighbors and the Na Sídhe – sinister folkloric entities she believes abducted her decades before.
As the pair develop a deep connection, Shoo becomes consumed by the old woman’s paranoia, rituals, and superstitions, eventually confronting the horrors from her own past.
The title originates from the Irish word “fréamhacha”, meaning roots that are entwined underground.
