Flex X Cop is Sbs TV’s latest romantic crime series directed by Kim Jae-hong, from a screenplay by Kim Ba-da. The Korean drama is airing on Disney+ and it revolves around Jin Yi-soo, an immature third-generation chaebol who starts working as a detective with a veteran violent crime department detective Lee Kang-hyun. Initially, Kang-hyun thinks that Yi-soo is nothing but trouble and wants nothing to do with him but soon they begin to trust each other, and a romance blossoms.

It seems the Korean entertainment industry is focusing on mental health and suicide as subject matter for their shows recently. Most attempts have been successful at presenting these difficult subjects with a non-prejudiced lens and an optimistic light. Death’s Game is the latest to join this list of mental-health shows, which, according to me, catapulted as a genre in the country after the success of The Glory. Now, I know that show doesn’t have anything to do with mental health or suicide; it’s basically a revenge thriller; however, it brings to light the effects of school bullying and such, which I believe could’ve been a tiny impulse for these deep-dive shows. While Daily Dose of Sunshine was the most straightforward of the lot, really pushing the envelope when it comes to all things mental health and the taboo around it in the country, Revenant was the show...

Following the story of a wealthy man in 1945, Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature is a period drama that combines history with horror and brings about an intriguing show that poses questions about humanity and the perils of survival in a monster-infested world. South Korea has been well known for making some incredible thrillers over the years, and Gyeongseong Creature does not disappoint on that front either. Although it’s a plot that is rather predictable, there are a lot of thrills to keep one occupied. The show is also set in Japan-occupied Korea, a dark time for the country, and does a decent job of representing the time period. Whether you’re looking for something historical or monstrous, this list will serve you well.
Sweet Home
The most obvious choice when it comes to a double feature with Gyeongseong Creature would be Sweet Home, the TV show about a virus that turns humans into monsters.

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to proclaim that South Korea consistently delivers some of the most riveting thriller entertainment. Long before the (K)wave of interest in soppy K-dramas and overproduced K-pop, it was thriller Korean cinema that was gripping audiences all around the world, exemplified by masterpieces like Oldboy and I Saw The Devil. This is probably why said genre keeps delivering hard-hitting shows every month. This year alone, we’ve had a dozen in this category, with Sweet Home 2 being the latest in the mix. So, when I heard of Death’s Game, I was certainly excited to see what the industry was going to cook up for us. The South Korean industry, known for its prowess in adapting webtoons and consistently delivering compelling content, had something promising in store. Oftentimes, though, the buzz surrounding a show intensifies when it hails from said industry. When we got to...

Netflix has its A-game on when it comes to Korean dramas, as it releases a new fantastic show, or at least, an addicting one, on a weekly basis. Recently, we’ve had some gems like Doona, Castaway Diva, and A Time Called You that have been loved by audiences and critics alike. Now, it’s finally time for the highly anticipated Song Kang and Kim You-Jung-starring K-drama My Demon to have us on our knees begging for mercy. Alright, this is a very unserious statement, but everyone’s just so excited to be taken in by this girlboss-demon combination that we can’t help but imagine it’s going to be a super hit even if it manages to bring nothing new to the table. People are already screaming about the “face cards” these two very attractive actors are bringing to the show, which is reason enough to give it a go.

Netflix is dropping great K-dramas like leaves falling in autumn. Just a little while ago, we got to see Doona, starring Bae Suzy and Yang Se-Jong, which mesmerized viewers with its stunning style and sweet story. November has kicked off with yet another fantastic K-drama, but this one is a little on the darker side. Now, the title is Daily Dose of Sunshine, but this show is rather draining and quite bleak until the end. Still, it tackles mental illness, something that has become prevalent in Korean dramas in the past few years. Daily Dose of Sunshine reflects on mental health in a country where the work culture is solely based on hierarchy. We learned in Revenant that Korea has the highest rate of suicides among Oecd countries. While sometimes Daily Dose of Sunshine comes across as overly dramatic, it sends a very clear message to those who may need help,...

This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains spoilers.
In “The Inner Fight,” the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks‘s fourth season, the big bad is revealed to be someone we haven’t seen in a long time. Once a promising Starfleet Cadet and talented pilot, he let his youthful arrogance get the better of him, ending his career in disgrace. Even before Beckett Mariner opened a bunker door and the shadowy figure emerged, we heard the smarmy voice of Robert Duncan McNeill and realized who was back.
No, not Tom Paris. It’s Nick Locarno!
Yes, McNeill did play Lt. Jg./Ensign./Lt. Jg. Tom Paris for seven seasons on Star Trek: Voyager. And yes, he was a gifted pilot whose career ended in disgrace due to his arrogance. And Star Trek producers would have us believe that McNeill never appeared as a member of Starfleet before the Voyager premiere “Caretaker.

2023 has brought a rekindling for K-drama lovers. Some of the shows we’ve got this year are very similar to those that came out back in 2013, but on the other hand, we also have some amazing new stuff that doesn’t fit any molds, but still impresses. Business Proposal, My Liberation Notes, King The Land, and Revenant are just a few of the many hit shows to come out this year, all easily available on Ott platforms. We were missing a modern fantasy on our list, though, and Destined With You is surely destined to take up that spot. At the end of Episode 4, Shin-Yu realized that the shaman told Hong-Jo that the two of them were destined for each other and their ties would never be severed. Will they accept this destiny easily?

It’s not every day that we get an excellent horror show that is an all-rounder. We have pining romance, family drama, heartbreak, commentary on the class divide, and suicide all in this one show called Revenant that is entertaining (for lack of a better word) from its first minute to its last. San-Yeong is played by the amazing Kim Tae-Ri, who happens to be at her peak in this one for sure. She does an incredible job of switching from the fear of being possessed to being possessed within seconds. It’s probably all her theatre skills working to her benefit. All her life, San-Yeong has struggled with money and, inevitably, everything else that comes with it. She worked hard at part-time jobs from a young age and continued to do so because she couldn’t afford not to and was giving her civil exam. Because of this, San-Yeong...

It’s a shame that Revenan” is over so quickly, and there’s nothing more we can look forward to in terms of a little something between Hong-Sae and San-Yeong anymore. Ships aside, Hong-Sae is a really well-rounded character in the show, and we see tremendous growth in him throughout. From arrogantly self-assured to an open-minded sweetheart, we really see him transform into the perfect male lead right at the climactic sequence of Revenant. Still, there’s never a moment where he outshines San-Yeong or tries to fight her battles for her. Instead, he just nudges her on. Hong Kyung is a relatively new actor, and this particular performance is jaw-dropping. There’s something about the character that gives you an ick at the beginning of the show, but then you realize he’s fighting his own ego to do the right thing while also appearing to be an interesting man.

Now a household name in the Korean entertainment industry, Kim Tae-Ri’s humble beginnings may come as a shock to many for the actress, who has an impressive resume for just a seven-year career. While technically, she hasn’t been acting for just 7 years, her mainstream film debut was in 2016, and she was clearly set up for success right from the start. The 33-year-old actress, who is known for looking youthful and even played a 21-year-old just last year, discovered her love for acting back in college. She began as a theatre actress in her second year of university and starred in a couple of music videos thereafter. She auditioned with over 1500 other women to play the important role of an orphan in acclaimed director Park Chan Wook’s erotic thriller The Handmaiden. She hasn’t looked back since, won many awards for the role, and proved her place in the industry.

The question is, was the last episode of Revenant the grand finale we needed? The short answer is yes; it lives up to our expectations and gives us the satisfaction we needed. People may say that Kingdom has got to be writer Kim Eun-Hee’s best work, but I’d like to argue that Revenant is just as good or even better in many ways. She’s especially good at balancing an emotional message that packs a punch with the ridiculous lengths human beings can go to in their greed. In many ways, Revenant has a very simple and straightforward plot, but the way it reaches its conclusion is truly delightful to watch. In terms of the best episode, it’s got to be episode 11, but 12 doesn’t fall too far behind, either. It’s a shame we won’t be waiting for new episodes every Friday anymore, but we...

Revenant, like so many horror stories, begins on a rainy night. Disney+’s latest South Korean drama opens as Professor Gu Kang-mo (Jin Seon-kyu) hurries through his front door, past shelves piled with books, and barricades himself in the study. “What went wrong?” he asks himself, flipping through his notes. Behind him, visible through paper windows, flashes of lightning illuminate a shadowy figure — its hair writhing in a wide halo like snakes.

As if this show wasn’t already one of the best of the year, Revenant episode 11 definitely takes the cake for the best episode too. We only hope 12 can be even better and end the show with a bang. The series has been leading us down one path, but now things have quickly taken a different direction, and it will keep you gripped to your seat. Additionally, can we talk about how fearless Hong-Sae has got to be to go from not believing in ghosts to interacting with one? In this episode, he goes one step further, so read on for the spoilers. Revenant Episode 11 is approximately one hour and ten minutes long, and not once do you feel the length of it because of how quickly things happen. The show is nearing its end, and although we’re ready for it, we’re going to miss looking forward to Friday nights for this reason.

It’s a shame that there are only 2 episodes of Revenant left when we’re just starting to see some new developments. Of course, we can’t expect any less from writer Kim Eun-Hee; she really knows what thrills. We can say without a doubt that Kim Tae-Ri really might be one of the best in the industry. To play an almost depressed woman who is possessed by an evil spirit who is a teenager is not an easy task, but she does an incredible job of dropping our jaws to the floor. It’s been a while since such a gripping show came our way, and we’re so excited to revisit it again.

The new episode of Revenant starts with a shocking turn of events, and the shock keeps coming. The new reveal is a huge set-back for Hae-Sang and San-Yeong in their attempt at getting rid of the evil spirit, but it also gives them a clue as to why San-Yeong’s father and Hae-Sang’s mother were unsuccessful in their mission and ultimately died. The fear San-Yeong has is that they will end up that way too, and she is trying her best for that not to happen. Hopefully, they will be successful at getting rid of this evil spirit and saving the day.

Leonardo DiCaprio is standing with his fellow actors. The “Revenant” star took to his Instagram Stories to show his support not long after it was announced that SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) formally approved a strike upon negotiations falling apart between the actors’ union and major Hollywood studios and streamers, who are represented by the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers).
The actors will now join the writers on the picket line, marking the first time since 1960 that two major guilds will be striking at the same time. The writers’ strike began May 2 and is in its 10th week.
DiCaprio shared an image of the SAG-AFTRA logo along with a short message of solidarity for the guild amid the strike.

Revenant is shaping up to be one of the better thrillers of the year with its quick pacing, thanks to a short 12-episode run. But, because of this, every episode is packed with information from start to finish. There’s no time to breathe, with each episode running over an hour. Still, because of its thrilling premise, it never gets boring. In the previous episode, we were left believing that the evil spirit was trying to show San-Yeong something by blurring her vision, but it looks like her eyesight may also be failing her. In comparison to the rest of the show, this episode definitely felt like a filler that was helping us connect the dots with everything that has been happening.

It seems like every new episode of Revenant brings in a new lesson. We’ve learned about “juvenile ghosts,” “Jangseungs,” and shamanic rituals that are hard to believe. In episode 6, we learn about yet another type of ghost. We’re already halfway through the show, but it seems we’re drifting farther away from San-Yeong’s evil spirit. As more time passes, the possession gets deeper, leaving San-Yeong with no choice but to distance herself from the people she loves. This has got to be the most thrilling episode of Revenant by far. Already, so much has happened in this show, and we’re seeing the full effect of Kim Tae-Ri’s impeccable performance skills. The role is ideal for her, and she’s fantastic at playing both the sheep and the wolf! It’s incredible. A horror show like the Revenant is rare to come by because it’s fast-paced, but it doesn’t feel rushed. In Episode 4, we saw Hae-Sang and San-Yeong visit the village that did the ritual to ward off evil spirits. Her long black hair paired with her pale skin and black outfits only add to the eerieness of Revenant and I’m here for it.
