Genre is a close-knit community. The independent filmmakers behind the bloody and wonderfully weird genre films rely on a small, dedicated fan base who respond to good filmmaking that pushes boundaries. Yet so much of this work exists outside of the mainstream, prompting us to ask the question: How do genre fans keep up with the latest films and filmmakers? IndieWire checked in with genre fans and hunted around the internet to find the answers.
Film Festivals
In this sense, genre films are like other independent films, premiering at a handful of festivals with trusted curation can be the perfect platform to launch a movie. And while a number of films that draw from both the arthouse and genre tradition — for example “The Witch,...

If you're looking for a diverse and entertaining horror themed podcast, hopefully you've already found 'Killer Pov,' the weekly horror talk show podcast hosted by Fearnet's own Rob Galluzzo, Fangoria's Rebekah McKendry and Inside Horror's Elric Kane. Available on both iTunes and directly from the GeekNation website (who produces the show), the gang recently celebrated their 50th episode (!) and joining in on the celebration was none other than director William Lustig (aka Bill to those that know him well)! Lustig was the man behind the original 'Maniac,' the 'Maniac Cop' franchise, as well as cult classics 'Vilgilante,' 'Hit List,' 'Relentless' and 'Uncle Sam' (currently streaming this week in The Vault with exclusive video commentary by Heidi Honeycutt & Jill Kill), as well as being at the forefront of home video entertainment with his company Blue Underground.

If you're a regular FEARnet reader, then no doubt you've also been keeping tabs on Scream Factory, the horror offshoot of Shout Factory that's been putting out stellar Blu-Ray special editions of some amazing genre titles over the course of the last year. Well, in honor of their month long 31 Days Of Screams promotion, the gang from Scream Factory, head of acquisitions Cliff MacMillan and director of marketing Jeff Nelson appeared on GeekNation's Killer Pov podcast this week along with hosts Rob Galluzzo (FEARnet), Rebekah McKendry (Fangoria) and Elric Kane (Inside Horror). This is really the best behind-the-scenes look at how Scream Factory operates. You can hear about some of the challenges the company faces (artwork controversy, acquiring films, surprising titles they lost, fan scrutiny), what's sold the most (and what hasn't) and the full scoop on upcoming releases such as 'Nightbreed: The Cabel Cut,' 'Night Of The Comet,...

The gang over at GeekNation already have the market cornered on quality podcasts. Hell, if you're a horror fan, you've got plenty of great listening options. There's Killer Pov with Rebekah McKendry from Fangoria, Elric Kane from Inside Horror and yours truly. The 'Holliston' crew Adam Green and Joe Lynch host their own show called The Movie Crypt. And Ryan Turek from Shock Till You Drop hosts The Bloodcast with Clarke Wolfe. But just because they're in the podcastin' business, doesn't mean they can't branch out and have fun in other geeky ways. They've just launched a section on their site devoted to "mosters" - motion posters to be exact. They take awesome theatrical one-sheet posters and animate them! Want a sample? Look below, hit the "play" button and you'll find their animated takes on 'Jaws' and 'Saw IV'. There are plenty more to see on their actual...

Hosts Rob Galluzzo (FEARnet, Icons Of Fright), Rebekah McKendry (Fangoria) and Elric Kane (Inside Horror) tackle the subject of favorite genre villains and who better to chime in than two actors whom have delivered two of the best genre performances in the last decade - Leslie Vernon himself Nathan Baesel ('Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon') and Aj Bowen ('The Signal,' 'The House Of The Devil,' 'You're Next'). The gang touches upon the history of Behind The Mask, what it’s like for actors like Aj and Nathan to tackle what can be considered "villain" roles and then we expand...

Joe popped by for the second season premiere!
Web streaming horror chat show Inside Horror returned for it’s second season last night. On last night’s episode, hosts Elric Kane, Staci Layne Wilson and Rebekah McKendry chat all things horror, catching up with The Wicker Tree, Devil’s Carnival and Cabin in the Woods.
And, yeah, they also grabbed Our Fearless Leader for a segment. Joe talks some of his career, the death of 35mm, his almost-made take on Batman, working for Roger Corman and a lot more (including our wine event!). It’s a quick segment, but it’s well worth watching. The interview starts around the 33minute mark. You can check it out below or on Inside Horror‘s Facebook page.

With Christian Ackerman’s short film Hell’s Belles having premiered this past Saturday, March 24th, in Hollywood, California, we thought we’d bring you a photo gallery from the red carpet invitation only event, as well as word on the audience’s response. Read on!
“The premiere was kick-ass!” said Hell’s Belles writer, director and editor Ackerman of the event, who along with producer Drina Durazo organized the premiere, which was co-sponsored by Dread Central. Held on the picturesque rooftop of the Cosmo Lofts Building overlooking Hollywood, the Hell’s Belles premiere kicked off with a red carpet, two open bars, hors d'oeuvres and appropriately rocking music spun by DJs Xalox B and DJ Devious prior to the screening.
“We had a huge turnout, and I was happy to unleash the Belles onto the world,” effused Ackerman. “I tried to make it an experience everyone would remember, and...

On this week's "Inside Horror" your host with the most, Elric, not only had his usual ladies (Staci and Jenna) flanking him, but he was also joined on the loveseat by the adorable Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede) and the super pretty (and talented!) SuperHeidi Honeycutt and Shannon Lark. Honest Abe got in a few licks as well.
Heidi and Shannon were on hand to talk about The Viscera Film Festival (which consists of all female filmmakers) as well as their big charity event, Bone Marrow, which will be taking place in the NoHo Arts District of Los Angeles, California, on the night of Saturday, February 25th (click here for more info).
First up, though, was Jenna Busch with "Dreadlines", hot off the Dread Central wire, along with some newly released teaser posters. Then Staci went behind-the-scenes of the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter film from Fox, directed by Timur Bekmambetov and starring Benjamin Walker.
