Secretive yet interesting
rolandddd4 May 2024
The plot thickens, the relationship between John and Melanie evolves, shifts and turns for the worse as the case gets more and more complex. John's character is also getting more and more complex as the viewer starts to see glimpses of his moral dilemmas and how his attempts at being a good person does not always end well, in fact quite the opposite so far.

Although John is a secretive character, we do get a glimpse of his flaws as he seems to have some kind of medical condition, which I have no doubt this will be explored further and that it will affect the plot somehow.

The writing is solid and the story is picking up some pace now, Farrell is doing an excellent job at making the character interesting despite how little we actually get to know about his true motivations. The directing is stylish and I really like how old movie clips are integrated in the story seamlessly, even the aspect ratio changes accordingly. Nicely done, but then again I am a fan of Meirelles and his earlier work.

This is clearly an episode mainly of character exploration and exposition and I will swiftly move on to the next episode.
